Lots of great movies on both those lists, many that I would have liked to included and if I did this 3 months ago or 3 months from now may have got slots over some others. I would say despite some talk that movies are dead or Hollywood has new ideas, all these lists very much disprove that.

If we had broken it up and did our lists by decades like we did for the 80s and 90s, it would have looked like this

00s
  1. There Will Be Blood
  2. Zodiac
  3. In the Mood For Love
  4. The Social Network
  5. No Country for Old Men
  6. Children of Men
  7. City of God
  8. Memories of Murder
  9. Elf
  10. Mulholland Drive
10s
  1. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
  2. The Wolf of Wall Street
  3. Phantom Thread
  4. Her
  5. Dunkirk
  6. Black Swan
  7. Hereditary
  8. Whiplash
  9. Rogue One
  10. Ex Machina
20s (just top 5 since we are only half way through the decade)

  1. Dune 1/2
  2. The Zone of Interest
  3. Top Gun Maverick
  4. Another Round
  5. Tar

I think i counted 41 matches with KP/80s list.

I watched No Country For Old Men yesterday and think that would by my #1.
This list speaks to the quality of the movies over the last couple decades. I really like seeing Hanna and 13 Assassins on a list. Only a couple I haven't seen and just a couple I personally don't like, but overall love the list!

I have actually seen all of the top 3!

Once Upon a Time is a “historical fantasy” like Inglorious Basterds. I’ve read a lot about the era and the Manson murders so it was right in my wheelhouse.

Zodiac is brilliant is the basement scene had me on edge. It may be Fincher’s best, which is saying something.

I watched TWBB and No Country in the same day. I liked No Country better, but DDL’s performance in TWBB is one for the ages.
I have slowly shifted on TWBB and No Country since they came out. I saw both on release, vastly preferred No Country but I've rewatched them both a few times since and each time TWBB kept creeping up and eventually firmly passed No Country.
This was my exact reaction too. I think No Country is a bit more straight forward with characters and motivations so there was a little less to dig through and discover on repeat viewings for me. Blood also makes me laugh a bit too. Both amazingly shot and directed.

Like I said in my early post, I'm way more familiar with late 20th century movies vs the early 21st, but will definitely check out some listed here I haven't seen yet.

That said, here are my favorites from the list that I have seen.

Once Upon A Time In Hollywood
Dune
Elf
Best In Show
The Muppets
Inglorious Basterds
Lost In Translation
Minority Report
Bladerunner 2049

I loved Inside Llewyn Davis which shouldn’t be surprising since I’m a Coens fanboy. Perhaps the best way to look at it is: Llewyn has to make a bunch of decisions, and every single one of them is wrong.
That was one of the surprises for me that it ended with just the 1 Coen Brothers movie. I like Llewyn Davis, Oh Brother, True Grit but my favorite Coen movies are from the 80s and 90s.

I am harder sell on them, only really like No Country, Fargo, and Lebowski from them.

I will always go to bat for Burn After Reading. It’s basically a perfect overlap with my kind of humor.

It is a funny one, no doubt about it.
