Attention! All Julius Jones Owner! (1 Viewer)

Damn...as a MBIII owner, I don't like to see this.
I'm confused. Do you mean, even as an MBIII owner, you don't like to see another player hurting or you'd prefer to have JJ healthy because you don't believe Barber can shoulder the load?
I'm pretty happy with MBIII's production right now (drafted as a number four in both leagues) and don't want to see any changes that would mess things up.

Damn. Just rejected a trade offer for JJ last night. I would have gotten a 2nd round pick next year. Figured I'd hold JJ for next year in hopes he went to another team. Have MBIII as well and he's been in my lineup while JJ has been bench fodder. Oh well, guess I'll continue the to hold.

Holding on to JJ in a Dynasty is not a bad thing, if he doesn't resign with Dallas at the end of the season there's no doubt that someone will take a chance on him because he's very talented. It doesn't look like the distribution will change between he and MBIII at this point so maybe if he can stay focused and not worry about another possible concussion he'll be ok......................................................................I hope.

Thursday morning update from RotoWorld. We knew about the new helmet but here's a quote from Phillips:

Julius Jones is considering using a new helmet after suffering two concussions during the first three games.

"Any player that gets banged up a little bit, you're highly sensitive to," coach Wade Phillips said. "But our guys are monitoring all that. They haven't told me it's been a problem." Jones should be fine to play this week, but he once again figures to take a backseat to Marion Barber.

This is VERY weak. at least you could mention where you heard this.
Sorry, but I have not finished reading the thread, but 850 The Buzz Sports Radio this afternoon said close the same thing regarding JJ. They implied that he was looking out for his own personal health and would likely take some off to make sure he was fully recovered. The talked about being a 40 year old drooling patient unable to take care of himself unless he looked out for himself first. They brought up the Dan Morgan multiple concussion issue and how the team restructured his contract because they did not feel he could be counted on (and they drafted Beason).

They reported this was from an interview with JJ, but I missed the when and with who.

Sorry, but it did catch my attention!
Thanks for sharing, I'm sure more will be coming out as the days pass, this is my last public comment as far as JJ is concerned.............I assure you he knows that this could be his last chance at landing a BIG contract as he's in his contract year. JJ is not sitting himself out, he's got some proving to do but that door is closing and MBIII is on the other side closing that door.I hope everyone understands that I'm not trying to tell you who to buy or sell on any person, just bring out some information for you ponder. Understand again that there's an "If", if he receives another concussion he's out. What are the chances that he'll receive another..............I don't know.

I just want to give you guys a heads up.

Good luck,

Tex

P.S.

Buy low on Glenn
so is this insider info that Glenn is close to coming back? he is on my waiver wire. should I grab him?

Same here. I've been laying low on it. But I know if I wait until news comes out it will be too late. Unfortunately I need guys that can play now.

The tough part about this for Jones owners is this is a pretty nice matchup for Jones this week. The Rams can be run on so if there was a week to feel good about JJ this would be it. And given how some owners might be turning to him because of byes this news makes it even more discouraging. He isn't on the injury report so all signs are pointing to him starting as usual but there's no way to know what might happen. Maybe he holds up and doesn't have another concussion the rest of the season. But two in three weeks is not a good sign obviously.

It came from all of the talk radio airwaves here in Dallas, reported by insiders and reporters alike. This is FACT. 'Out' refers to the new league policy on concussions...he will be forced to sit for an unspecified amount of time...

Since many here are backing up BTex's knowledge of inside Cowboys news, and since 2 concussions in 2 weeks usually leads to a 3rd:

Is Marion Barber a strong "buy candidate" right now? Figuring if we are equipped with this knowledge, and our potential trade partner is not, we can offer him something that he may think is too good to be true when in reality, if this plays out, we robbed him.

Thoughts?

Tex, is it true that Julius Jones is a cigarette smoker? Bill Simmons said this on a recent podcast.

How dumb would you have to be to smoke as a starting NFL running back in a contract year? :football:

I just made an offer for him based largely on this post. Hoping to catch the owner in "Sell High" mode. (I need another RB anyway, this post just helped push me in MB3's direction)

I just offered Housh straight up for Barber and got turned down. The dude didn't even start Barber last week.

The Star-Telegram had a piece on it in their paper yesterday (it's now 12:19am) so he or the organization must be talking in the open about it.

LOL, not that I know of.

3C's, if any of you have a spot on your roster it would be wise to stash him and hold, especially if you think you'll be in the running for a playoff push :blackdot: . His season is NOT over yet.

Thanks. I was hoping to hear that. In one league I have room, but not this week because of byes and some other questionable spots. I'm hoping to stash him away in a couple of weeks. Other league I have TO, MBII and JJ (week 8 is gonna hurt) so I think I'll leave him alone there. If he comes back healthy enough to start and lasts the remainder of the year, he could be a nice WW steal!

Hey Tex,

Did you catch Jerry on KTCK?

Interviewer:

Julius Jones said he suffered his second concussion in three games last week. Their is supposedly a better helmet out there that will reduce this. Why don't the Cowboys have them?

Jerry:

I don't know that. My trainers haven't told me that Julius is having concussions or anything that will stop him from playing. I know he didn't have one last weekend. Concussions are something that I take seriously. I saw it affect the career of Troy Aikman. It is a significant thing in my mind when I hear we have a player with a concussion. We want to have the best equipment available for our players.

Thoughts????

No, I didn't hear it, I just turned it on. Either Jerry is full of it or he doesn't know what's going on with his own players.I know for a fact that they want to try another type of helmet for Julius for precaution reasons, that's what I was told and I totally believe it.

Jerry's been very touchy when it comes to talking about players injuries. Every since Glenn got hurt and there was link got out about him being out for the year Jerry's been on the defensive. Every interview I've heard him in, at least when it comes to injuries, every single one of them he says:

"I don't know that."

It's clear that Jerry is not going to give out any info on players, sad thing is he was the one that leaked out the Glenn will be out for the year comments then he tried to retract it. LOL @ Jerry.

I'd like to know what else he said, did you get it all?

Here you go..... The second recap seems better than the first I found. Not as worried now.

I want to address emotional roles. We grade teams just by talent, but some teams have good things happen to them and they start getting some wins and positive emotions start rolling. Do you see that this season?

The way I look at it is when a team has some adversity and yet they keep working and have an upbeat attitude, then that adversity just bounces off of them. Otherwise it just sticks to them, and just lingers on. This team did a bunch of things that would be really adverse to winning on Sunday Night to start the game, but they just kept trying and competing and eventually good things happened.

To contrast that against the team you’re playing this weekend, they’ve had some tough losses and injuries.

Injuries just frustrate us all. We were just unbelievably lucky last year, aside from Ellis. It was frustrating that we couldn't do better than we did last year with that kind of year on injuries. I continually look around for the positives, and I look at the offensive line. Leonard Davis has been our catalyst and given us a powerfull OL, and at the end of the game we’re just wearing them down. Our guys feel like they can do that now.

How close did you come to not resigning Gurode a couple of years ago?

It was like pulling teeth to get Gurode moved back to center. We kept saying “Look at his rookie year. He plays outstanding his first 8 games”, but we have to move him out to guard because we had a shortage there.” But people look at his size and his bulk, and its just tempting to move him to guard. Go back to our offseason last year … Gurode wasn’t signed, we didn’t know if we could get Leonard Davis, and we didn’t have Colombo signed. There is no question in my mind that Bill looked at our OL and what we would probably end up with there, it effected his decision to come back. But we managed to get all of them singed, and now all the guys are gelling and it’s a strength of our team.

Gurode’s real position is center. Leonard Davis played tackle in college and the pros. His size says that he’s a tackle. But isn’t his best position guard?

It’s a luxury to have someone of his size and talent play guard. We tried to have that with Larry Allen for here for years. When I resigned Larry Allen, I thought he was going to play left tackle for us. But the we drafted Flozell, and he showed that he could handle the left tackle spot so we got the luxury of playing Larry Allen at guard. Philly has the luxury of playing someone like Shawn Andrews at guard. Now, when you mix someone that big at guard with someone as big Gurode at center, and it makes it extremely difficult for defensive linement. It’s real hard for a defensive linemen to take on 13-14 rushes a game when they’re going all out. After that, they start to lose their legs.

Is there a chance Terry Glenn wont’ be back this year?

Yes, there is. There’s also a chance he will be back. To his credit, he’s given himself a chance.

Will the Cowboys consider redoing TO’s contract and extending it?

I wouldn’t comment on it right now. He’s got a great contract right now, and he and I are both very proud of it.

Are you afraid Jason Garrett will get a HC job after this year?

Excuse me Norm? I didn’t hear you? I’m sorry repeat that?

Are you afraid Jason Garrett will get a HC job after this year?

I’m sorry Norm, I’m not hearing you ……… I’m teasing you. I don’t want to even think about that right now. That’s tomorrow’s problem.

Are you surprised that Troy and Moose criticized you for the Tank signing?

We have to realize that if there is a talented player out there at this time of the year, then it’s probably for a reason. This season is a marathon. It’s the length of 2 and a half college seasons. If I have a chance to plug a hole in mid season, then I’m going to do it. I put a lot of money into us having the structure and locker room to take on this type of player, so why shouldn’t I take advantage of it?

Julius says he’s moving to a different helmet to prevent concussions. If helmet technology is better elsewhere, why isn’t every team in the league using it?

I don’t know. Talking to my trainers, I’m not sure helmets had anything to do with it.

Does it scare you that the word concussion is used, after you watched it claim Troy’s career?

I take the word concussion very seriously. I saw it happen first hand with Troy, like you said.

Isn’t it a good idea to spend an extra hundred thousand to make sure that everyone on this team had these special helmets?

Norm, this is a ridiculous topic. If I thought a new helmet could prevent concussions, no amount of money would be an issue.

Finally, to finish up ... I want to talk about a story I got in my book about you and Switzer in a beer joint in Glendale Arizona.

We played the Cardinals on Christmas night. We landed there on Christmas Eve. We got off the plane and drove through Phoenix to the hotel. The Superbowl was going to be in Phoenix that year. We saw an attractive looking bar and with pictures of cold beer . We felt good because we found out that night that the 49ers just lost and we were probably going to have homefield advantage. I told Barry “Let’s make a promise that we’ll stop the bus right here and have some beers, then return here for the Superbowl to have some beers, and then come back here to celebrate our Superbowl Victory with some beers.” We did, we did and we did.

Thanks BG for posting this. It sounds like Jerry did get some what defensive after the Troy and Mouse comments about the signing of Tank, but I'm not sure if he's deny the concussion at least not according to this post . Unless I'm reading this wrong it sounds like he's saying if there is a helmet that prevents concussions that he'd buy them.Notice he said that he "talked" to his trainers and helmets had nothing to do with it (the concussions). Make no mistake about it my friend, JJ has had two concussion and it shows in the way he's been running. I was wondering in that second game why he was running so timid, then I found out later why.

heard the interview. Jerry was avoiding Norm's question and Norm decided to move on. Let me be clear on what I think: Jerry wants to deal JJ which is why he is starting and this puts a huge kink in the trade value, so he is downplaying the heck out of it as is the goose step media for the most part. .

Then he goes on to say that if there was a helmet out there to prevent concussions money is not an option. So it doesn't sound like he's denying that JJ had the concussion but that isn't a helmet to prevent it.

I don't think there is any way JJ gets traded this year.- The Cowboys are a legitimate contender for the NFC title, and they have a RB system that works. I don't see Jerry messing with that.

- JJ is a UFA next season, so his trade value would be minimal unless a team was planning to sign him to an extension before the season was over.
