Auction Draft Results from 8/13/06 (1 Viewer)

Hey guys, I know there's been some discussion regarding auctions, strategies, etc. so I figured I would chime in with some results from our auction yesterday. It was the first auction draft for most of the guys, so take that into account accordingly. Mostly sharks in the league, but because most were drafting auction style for the 1st time, there were some pretty interesting results. I'll load each roster in the next post, but could use some help with the formatting. I imported the Draft Dominator results into a spreadsheet, but not sure how to load those results here other than cut/paste. I'll chime in with some more thoughts in a little bit.

Conditions: $200 Cap, 10 Teams, 17 players

Scoring:

Passing: 4 pts passing TD, 1 pt/20 yds passing

Team 1 would be me. LJ was up first and figured at $66, he was worth it. Was planning to go $70 if necessary. Wanted to lock down a top flight WR (Fitzgerald @ $29 was pretty good), and paired some upside (Bush @ $25) with some consistency (Dunn @ $22). Feel like I got some good value in Galloway and also TJ Houshmanzadeh. Waited until the end on QB, but should be okay with Warner/Delhomme, even though they have the same bye week . Looking back, I probably should have pushed harder on Gates (he was a steal at $21), and I can't believe the guys kept bidding up Peyton Manning ($31), especially in a league that awards 4 pts per passing TD.Also, I think my RB depth will come in handly down the road...DeAngelo ($7) was nominated early, but I didn't really feel the need to pair him with Foster because I had Bush/Dunn by the time Foster was nominated. Got a potential starter Chris Brown ($5), Marion Barber ($1 - steal!), and then backups Mewelde and Bennett. Should be a position of strength down the road, especially since we can start 3 RB's.

What was the "feel" of the draft? Were guys scared of paying big bucks at the beginning of the draft for the top names? Were middle tier players going for higher than they should? And how long did the auction take?

Most guys were pretty excited. I think there were a lot of nerves from most of the guys, but I was pretty comfortable as I've done several fantasy baseball auctions, and wasn't too concerned about getting the guys I wanted. Early on, I could see that guys were going to be pretty conservative, and several wanted to save their money as they waited for 'bargains' later on. A few guys waited too long and paid dearly as they lost out on any stud players (see Team 3). TO went for $34, and several of the other Tier 1 WR's went in the $25-$30 range (ie. Harrison/Boldin/Fitz), but Holt was the last one in the Tier1 WR group to be nominated, and several teams went after him hard, raising his price to $36 or so. The auction took about 3.5 hours, probably would have been a little faster but the auctioneer went a little slower than I would have liked because it was the first time for most guys. The last 50-60 picks went off very quickly as the $ became limited.A few of the middle tier RB's went for more then they should have just because there were a few guys needing that RB2 or RB3 and the drop-off to the next tier was steep, so bidding wars would ensue.
