Auction Format Help (1 Viewer)

Ok....so a league I am in is switching to an auction format and we are having disagreements on what roster requirements to have for the actual auction draft. Basically one camp wants to allow someone to be an idiot and just draft 1 player if they so choose, and then fill out the remaining roster via waiver wire and FA pickups. The other side(s) want to just fill out the starters, or maybe just one of every required position.

I personally am on the side that fills out all positions (starters and bench). I just don't have a great reason for wanting it this way and I am hoping that some of you can give good arguments one way or the other.

Thanks in advance.

I have been in a auction league for over 4 years....you NEED to draft all bench spots and starters....otherwise it will be no fun to be in the auction...auction drafting is by far the greatest draft out there

I've been an auction commissioner for 6-7 years. Every slot MUST be filled. We have a 16 player roster requirement $300 cap and a minimum of $1 per player. So if an owner wants to bid $285 on one player so be it, but he MUST have a complete roster by the end of the auction.

You also need in an auction format to have a designated dollar value on all Free Agents not bought during the auction. I have a $1 minimum during free agent blind bidding that happens once a week, and then any free agent not bid on during that process goes for $3 during the add/drop free for all, everything counts against your cap.

I'm in a league where the minimum you can draft in the auction is 16 and the maximum is 22. Instead of 16 and 22 your league could use 12 and 16, or whatever you want, but this may be decent compromise.

You have to draft at least one starter at every position (so that a the leagues starting roster requirements are met).

Great stuff everyone. I think I got them set to draft the whole roster.
Why do you have to fill out your roster? I think it is actually fun when someone blows their money early and you pick up some solid talent for a buck a piece at the end. Plus the draft goes faster if you get the fools out of the way early. The auction draft i am in is a multi-year contract type league so maybe that gives me a different spin.
