Auction Salary Allocation Suggestions? (1 Viewer)

I've been playing FFB for about 15 years, and this year I'm starting a new Auction league with IDP's. I've never played with IDB (and I don't think anyone in my league has either), so I'm trying to get a feel for how to budget for my upcoming auction. A quick summary of the league:

Starters/Must Draft

1/2 QB

2/3 RB

3/4 WR

1/2 TE

1/2 K

2/3 DL

3/4 LB

2/3 DB

0/5 Any Position

Offense scoring is performance + 6 pts for TD's

Defensive as follows:

Return Yardage

Fumble Rec - 3

Forced Fumb - 3

INT - 3

Passes Defended - 1

Tackle - 2

Assist - 1

Sack - 2

Thanks all!

This is very similar to my local league. You favor LBs a bit more than we do with the two and one for solos and assists; we're 1.5 and .5.

Nothing for forced fumbles, recoveries, defensive tds, etc.?

Either way, what worked great for me in the past, was allocating about 20-25% of available funds to my IDPs; BUT, and this is important, you really have to know under the radar value to build a top defense with that percentage. Last year the league was much better informed on IDPs, and I spent 1/3rd of my funds on defense. That worked out nicely and I took the league. It was still big bargains like Odell and Lofa who led the charge for me though.

So, you need to evaluate how shrewd the competition is on the defensive side of the ball. Stud LBs are going to be very important, and owning two is worth the expense. I'd target three cheap DLs who do well with tackles (2 pt sacks don't thrill me, and DL is downgraded in this set up). Because you think this league is new to IDP, I would suggest doing serious research with the projections here, applying it to your scoring and try to build a very dominant cheap defense. You'll know if that is possible after a few IDPs at each position are off the board.

With solid IDP information, you can spend a little more on offense and know your D will still be good. If you've auctioned a bit in the past you know no two auctions are the same and they have a way of creating value on the fly. If the headline IDPs are going relatively cheap, stock up. If they're very expensive, you need a mix of the EJ Hendersons (prolly cost you a buck), and the Mike Petersons.

With what you shared, I'd be targetting a cheap D, and expecting studs with "lesser names" like Gibril Wilson to be the prudent targets. Good luck. My similar league is the best time you can have being a football fan.
