Auction Strategy (Need Input Please) (1 Viewer)

Draft is coming up in about a week, so I'm still trying to sort out a strategy. In the past, I have grabbed a big-time stud and then focused on building depth with some lottery picks, value plays, etc. 12 team, PPR

This year, I am debating a strategy of going all in on studs and building my team with random picks. For example, assuming I could get Rodgers, Antonio Brown, and David Johnson for about 75% of my budget, I would have to fill out the remaining positions with cheaper players that could potentially make it big. Last year I was able to get T.Williams and Ajayi on the WW, and drafted Michael Thomas for $3, so I know some value can be had. I'm also thinking I would rather have Brown and some WR4s filling out the lineup than starting all WR2/WR3s. Same with locking down a stud QB and RB compared to crossing my fingers on Stafford or Lamar Miller & Marshawn Lynch

Starting Lineup:

QB - RB/RB - WR/WR/WR - TE - K - 5 IDP - 5 Bench

Being "devil's advocate", can anyone support this strategy or tell me I'm crazy to help me sort through my thoughts here?

Thanks!!

If you can get all those players at 75%, by all means do it and see if you hit with cheap players.  But I highly suspect that you will not get all those 3 for 75%.

If it were me, I would try to get DJ and Brown for say 60% of your budget and go cheap at QB, and find value later in the draft.

Just make sure that you have an alternative strategy in case DJ's bidding gets out of hand.  Because it might and 30% of your cap might not be enough.

I'd spend my money locking up a top tier WR & RB, but would look for value at QB in the bottom half of the top 12.  My experience in auction leagues (18 years) has shown me that when I overpay at QB, I usually end up lacking elsewhere and struggling to put together a competitive lineup each week.   If you have top 3 at RB/WR, they will more than make up for average to just above average QB scoring relative to the other players at the respective positions.

Thank you; I was most hesitant to go with the QB as the third "stud", especially since the price differences can fluctuate so much. For example, Rodgers went for $35 last year, Brees for $12, and Matt Ryan for $1. Definitely no need to overspend there.

I like the idea of focusing on allocating around 60% to the RB/WR and finding value elsewhere
