Austin City Limits Festival (1 Viewer)

So apparently I am heading down for this with 2 other people. None of us have ever been. What's the scoop on getting around? We've got to find a place to stay (I'm sure all the good places are already booked though). Where should I be looking and what's the damage going to be?thanks
You don't need to rent a car but I like having one. If you can rent a house near Zilker Park you can walk to ACL and take cabs. That's the shark move. I have never drove and taken the shuttles to ACL but it sounds like a nightmare.
Oof.. House near Zilker sounded like a great idea, but the going rate on CL seems to be at least ~$800 a night. That's pretty steep unless you have a decent sized group splitting it. FBG ACL party house cornhole 2012?
I might know someone for under $2k for the week...let me ask if its available
May be interested. 2.5k a weekend for some of those tiny run down homes nearby is highway robbery. But staying closeby seems the best way to go, especially considering how much I drink. :banned:
Yeah but walking rocks and easy to close deals. after parties. The houses in Zilker may be old but that's an expensive neighborhood. You'd be lucky to live there.
Considering their nightly rental cost is about equal to my entire monthly rent I definitely agree. Hell I'd probably consider myself lucky to live anywhere in Austin.

My group got a house a mile and a half from Zilker. There is going to be 7 of us. My share is something like $500.

Driving. Bikes have been discussed. Although that close, stumbling might be the best bet.

If you're in the 78704, you can drive through the back streets and park on the street (about a mile or less from ACL site)

I was surprised to see that the Hyatt isn't completely booked yet. Any opinions on whether or not that's a decent option? 1.6 miles away and $400/night.

A house nearby would be ideal, but I don't think I can afford to shell out that much $.

San Jose is probably booked but around that price and much nicer. Austin Motel is also looking into. Hyatt is nice but $400 is def premium pricing for that joint.

Thanks. I like these options a lot more than the Hyatt. Seem to be a little cheaper too. Hopefully am able to get a room for that weekend.

I might finally make it this year. Have a line on ticket for face value, just need to look into accommodations.

Schedule has been released.. So many conflicts, especially Friday.. I'll probably re-plan a general itinerary 50 times between now and October.http://lineup.aclfestival.com/events/2012/10/12/

Late Night Concerts are out

The Shins on the 12th is a given with the group I am going with. Wish Gary Clark wasn't playing so early, I can't get down there in time for that show. Still thinking The Roots will end up playing somewhere.

Bump. Going to M83 tonight in Dallas then heading down to Austin early tomorrow AM. Bogart/Other FBG's still going? Would be cool to possibly get a small group together to hit up a bar or after-party show after one of the nights.

:hifive:Hopefully we can get a stoned Bogart to join us. :excited:
I should be there by noon today. Traveling party of six in on SUV makes in town transport interesting, but will put up the FBG signal when we get there and settled. How was M83?

Just alright IMO. I like their stuff a lot but I think their live shows are kind of dependent on the crowd's energy. I was really surprised in between songs or during the slower ones how much chit-chat was going on. It reminded me of a high school cafeteria. Just seemed like a whole lot of uptown "OMG I LOVE THIS BAND!!" girls their with their backwards hat wearing Chris Chris douchbag boyfriends. I didn't get to see them when they rolled through Granada earlier this year but I imagine that show was much better than a sold out Palladium.I'm hoping to hit the road within an hour but of course the girlfriend waited until this morning to start packing. She promises it will be "quick" There were a couple early shows I wanted to make but most likely will probably get to Zilker just in time for Delta Spirit. Hopefully anyways.Today is going to be a long day. :banned:

The War on Drugs is better. :2cents: That's a good time of day to catch Delta Spirit though. Dude probably won't be too wasted yet.

Leaving Austin now. Insane weekend.

The Roots was by far the most fun show. The Black Keys and Weezer probably the most complete shows. Weezer really can "play the hits" at this point.

Childish Gambino was a lot of fun. Ben Howard and Andrew Bird were amazing. The best musicians I saw. Biggest regret was skipping Jack White for Neil Young and Crazy Horse. I wanted to see Young before he died, and I can mark that off my list, but his set with the Horse is painful. My group telling me how awesome Jack White was didn't help.

I did not put much thought into RHCP closing the show, but it was a very solid show.

Stubbs Sunday Brunch is a must in Austin. As is Kabobalicious.

Regrets to Cosjobs for not making it to your place this weekend, and any other FBGs that might have been there. Thanks to UniAlias and his lovely GF for hanging out Saturday and bringing party favors. The old man saying "Well, I'm a safety inspector" was a highlight.

 No recollection of the safety inspector comment? I just remember my body deciding that deep in the crowd was not the place for me.. 30 seconds before it even started. :lmao: I think I may've passed out just trying to get out of there. Ended up catching about the first hour of Neil Young's stuff while sitting down, but don't recall hearing much that I knew very well and I was so out of it that we decided to bail. But yeah great times all around. Pretty sure I'm going to be hurting for the next week or so. :hangover:

I couldn't make Friday so sold my 3day via CL for a nice profit. Glad I did b/c I'm sure the rain sucked. Hit the M83 after party at Malverde Friday night (good times...smoked with those fools). Saturday opted for Crystal Castles at Emos which was great (2 hour set). Sunday around 4pm, after my hangover subsided, walked over to Zilker to see if I could get a cheap ticket and found 2 VIP tickets for $30/piece (free :banned: ). I think I'm going to go this route in the future. 3 days of festival stuff is just too much and pretty much kills my initiative to make it out at night.

2013 Pre-Sale tomorrow.

Buying two for the first weekend just because I plan on having a girl to take next year. Should probably buy four and push on the secondary market, but the two weekends thing makes me think that market might not be as strong as past years.

I'm most intrigued by what off-site shows are going to be going on during the week between the two weekends. I may just have to make a week out of it in good ole Austin.

:goodposting:I've had no trouble flipping tickets for the last several years but this may be the first time I wait to buy tickets. Coachella still had a high demand when doing the double weekend thing for the first time this year, but I'm not convinced ACL will be the same. Tough for me to commit a large amount of $ not knowing if I'll be able to go and uncertain if I'll even be able to sell them for much.

Two 3-day passes bought. Now just wait and see which artists show up. And find someone to take.
