Backyard chickens (1 Viewer)

Any of you guys do this? It's apparently finally legal here if I apply for a variance.

Biggest issue I can see is our spoiled ##### puppy resenting their presence and barking all the time, but I think somehow we can make this work. Should I raise chickens??

Like for the eggs FYI

I started with five I now have four. Eggs are/were great. My chickens have really slowed down in production to the point I would like to kill them and get new ones. Problem here is my twelve year old daughter does not see it the same way I do. She feels they should live their lives out and die naturally. The only argument I have against that is an economic one. In the end I am now eating some fairly expensive eggs.

I am tempted to accidentally leave the gate open and let my dog finish them off but that seems like a #### move. I suppose I can let my daughter win this one.

When they were laying regularly I was covering cost and eating fresh eggs. I would say if you have the room do it. It is cool to have fresh eggs and I do enjoy the chickens being around. It gives the yard a peaceful feeling.

We have backyard chickens. My wife does all the work, I just eat the eggs. They're delicious. The chickens don't make anymore noise than the birds in the trees around the yard. My wife also has a pretty large garden area, so the chickens create a neat circle of life - they eat the leftover greens from the garden, and their crap is a key ingredient in the compost that fertilizes the garden for new vegetables.

We know people with backyard chickens who sell as many as we can eat to us at $4/dozen. I highly recommend that.
