In 2004, Kevan Barlow was a Top 10 pick in many fantasy drafts who was arguably the biggest bust of the year.
In 2005, Kevin Jones followed suit.
Will Cadillac Williams be next?
Yes it's early and yes the Bucs have faced one terrific defense and another improved one but the early returns on Cadillac have been extremely negative. And honestly, that's being kind.
In two games, he's yet to reach the 40-yard mark. He hasn't come anywhere near the end zone and his team looks absolutely terrible. He certainly hasn't been helped by Chris Simms' poor play at QB, but one thing about elite RBs is they can often make the talent around them better during difficult times. In the first two games this season that is something I did not see Williams do. Instead, he went nowhere just like everyone else.
Again, I realize fully that two games does not a season make. There is still plenty of time for Cadillac to turn things around and possibly things will get better next week at home against a Carolina team that's also in disarray and was blasted by Warrick Dunn in Week 1 and by Chester Taylor today. So it's very possible that the Cadillac Williams who won the Rookie of the Year award last season will soon emerge and put these dismal first two games firmly in the past.
But the early signs with Williams are troubling to say the least. He hasn't been productive; he hasn't looked explosive; he's already hobbling at least a bit and his team is having serious issues around him.
It's definitely too soon to call him a bust, but it may not be too soon to start being at least a little concerned that a slam-dunk first-round pick in every fantasy draft this year has yet to come close to playing like one.
