49ers | Barlow traded to Jets

Sun, 20 Aug 2006 13:29:27 -0700

ESPNews reports the San Francisco 49ers have traded RB Kevan Barlow to the New York Jets.

This is great news for barlow and the Jets. Barlow has the talent to be a feature back and had a very poor line in San Fran. Though the o-line is young it could come together quickly and the jets could gain another win of two.

I think this would make Hicks actually rosterable. With Gore's injury history, Hicks is now on my "buy low" list.

bye bye

Hey Otis :banned:

The San Francisco 49ers announced Sunday that they have traded RB Kevan Barlow to the New York Jets for an undisclosed 2007 draft pick. The trade is contingent on Barlow passing a physical.

Barlow (6-1, 234) originally joined the 49ers as a third round draft pick out of Pittsburgh in 2001.

Said head coach Mike Nolan on the trade, “This is a great opportunity for Kevan because of New York’s need at running back. Kevan has been committed to our program and done well. With the depth at running back we felt we could make this move.”

Barlow started and played in 12 games in 2005 before going on injured reserve late in the season with a knee injury. He finished second on offense in rushing with 176 carries for 581 yards, also tying for team-lead with Frank Gore and Maurice Hicks with three rushing touchdowns.

Originally a third round (80th pick overall) draft choice by San Francisco in 2001, Barlow started 30 games for the 49ers and produced a 1,000-yard rushing season in 2004 with his career-high 1,024 yards on the ground.

My 4-man keeper league started about 1.5 hours before this broke. Threw Gore back in the pool and passed on him with my first pick planning to get him with my second. Taken two picks before me as the news broke. :wall:

If this is true, I would say that this says a lot about SF view on Michael Robinson. We all know they like Gore, but he's had a history for being injury prone in college and now the NFL (short stint). Thus, SF has to feel good about the 3rd or 4th RB's to trade away Barlow.

LOL @ pending passing the physical!

So is Barlow in the 9th round of a new dynasty (1pt per) decent value? Anyone think a fresh start could help this guy?

just took him in the 9th round of a new dynasty. mistake? worth the gamble?
Definitely worth the gamble. He's still young and could turn things around. Getting a guy in the 9th who's likely to start this year and in the position he's in is a good gamble regardless of how much of a turd he is.

He still needs to prove himself. Remember he isn't walking into a starting roll. All he is right now is worth a flyer just like Houston and Blaylock. Nothing more. Don't get over excited yet. This is better news for Gore though..

Do both Gore and Barlow hold value now!?!!?*head explodes*
I think it does. This sucks for those of us who were targeting Gore in the later rounds. His ADP should shoot up now since he will be the clear starter in S.F. But I also think this makes Barlow a little more appealing as a RB3. I didn't care for him at all before and while I'm not doing cartwheels about him now at least he is in a position where he should be the unquestioned starter. Whether he can capitalize on that is obviously the question but I'd say Barlow has gone from being a total non-entity on my draft board to being a fringe RB3 option. That said, I hope he's not on my roster when the season starts because I have zero confidence in him.

Jets | Team announces Barlow trade; pending his passing a physical

Sun, 20 Aug 2006 13:54:15 -0700

The New York Jets announced they have reached an agreement in principle with the San Francisco 49ers to acquire RB Kevan Barlow in exchange for an undisclosed draft pick. The deal is pending Barlow's passing of a physical. "We have been impressed with Kevan's production in both the running and passing game," said Jets' general manager Mike Tannenbaum. "We feel Kevan will complement our running back group, and he will come in and compete for playing time."

P.S. I just hit the waiver wire in my dynasty league where I'm hurting at RB and picked off Maurice Hicks. Gore has to prove he can stay healthy remember.

I think this would make Hicks actually rosterable. With Gore's injury history, Hicks is now on my "buy low" list.
I agree, Hicks is the guy I take late in the draft after someone reaches for Gore in the late 3 or 4th round. With Gore's inury history, Hicks is screaming with value :D

how many of you will drink the Barlow kool aid again :banned:
:banned: Those who forget the lessons of history are doomed to repeat them.
I actually already took him as an RB5 (rookie RB for RB4). I needed a body. I've never been too high on him but the Jets OL is a ton better than SF was. I'm certainly not counting on him to do anything but he could be a great addition or bye week filler if he shows up and proves that he deserved to be on any FF squads. So I'm not drinking the Koolaid, but I do have hopes that he does something with his new opportunity.

So does this put Michael Robinson in a battle with Hicks for RB2 in sf? Or is hicks the clear number 2? I had been reading a few weeks ago that the niners were really impressed with Robinson, a converted QB. Which im always wary of when they change position.

Amazing to me that Jets can take the contract on the salary cap. But, I don't know how the cap works and if it is only on certain dates that you have to be under.

Nolan has really been clearing house of Donahue's picks and remaking a team with the right 'tude.

Proud owner of Frank Gore and Kevan Barlow :banned:

Suddenly I have 2 more legit starting Rbs

My RB stable now (3 player keeper league that just had its inaugural draft) - Shaun A, Frank Gore, Barlow, Jamal Lewis, Laurence Maroney

Haven't you been reading this thread? Gore will be gone before mid 2nd round in future redrafts....but I agree, Gore owners will get great value with Hicks as a late round pickup.

The Jets did a nice job of reworking their cap this year.... plenty of room for Barlow.
