Barrett Ruud - LB - Tampa Bay Buccaneers Sep 24, 2006

Barrett Ruud will start at MLB in Week 3 because of OLB Ryan Nece's injury.

Shelton Quarles will kick to the outside. Ruud had eight tackles in Week 2.

(According to Roto)

This could be interesting.....

No problem. A few years back I used to be a somewhat frequent poster in the IDP forums. I have been running an IDP league for 12 years now so I usualy have some decent input/info. Hopefully now that my chaotic life has cooled down a bit, I can start adding to the forum here like I used to. Instead of just running to it for info like I have the last 2 years.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if it stays this way. I know they lost again today and the defense as a whole didnt really set the world on fire. But for all three LB's on this team to actually make it big in the boxscore in a single week isnt something that happens often, if at all in TB. It's not like Nece has been that impressive since taking over the starting gig last year. Some of the reasoning for Ruud still being on the bench was they didnt see how they could bench Quarles while he was playing like a man possesed(last year). The lineup they had in there today actually had the teams top 3 LB's all playing at the same time (just my opinion here but I doubt anyone would argue that point)

So why not keep it this way? I really dont know what the coaches will decide to do but I think that having Brooks, Ruud and Quarles all on the field can only help them, not hurt them. I dont own any of them in my leagues. Just my observation.

With 10 starters returning from last season’s top-ranked defense, the Buccaneers figured they would be holding opponents to single digits on the scoreboard — not the other way around. For the past few years, many observers wondered when the decline of the Bucs’ defense would commence. It’s starting to unravel this season with age, injuries and lack of depth all conspiring against the unit at the moment. Among the starters, DE Simeon Rice (knee), DTs Chris Hovan (ankle) and Anthony McFarland (hip), SLB Ryan Nece (knee) and CB Brian Kelly (foot) have all been banged up in the early going. So has 35-year-old MLB Shelton Quarles, who could become the first victim of a shake-up to the defense. Quarles missed the opener with a groin injury and has looked slow in pass coverage, which is an area where he once excelled. Second-year MLB Barrett Ruud started in place of the injured Quarles in Week One, and we hear Ruud has been pushing Quarles since training camp. Ruud also started in the middle in Week Three, when Quarles was shifted outside to cover for an injured Nece. Sources close to the Bucs tell us Ruud is ready be a full-time NFL starter.

So what are the thoughts on this guys potential as the starter? Top 20? Not as valuable as Channing Crowder? He's pretty low on Blooms dynasty rankings.

I think most expected Ruud to be great when he played, but that the PT might have to wait another year. I'm just happy I passed on Thurman for Ruud.

Not me. My league gives 4pt's for every .01pt over .08 on a DUI arrest. He is gold.

I think he has top 20 potential, and I like him better than Crowder, but then again I'm a Ruud owner.Dont know why Bloom had him ranked low, maybe because expected Ruud to be a year away yet.
