2017 Dynasty Stash--waiver wire adds with an eye to the future (1 Viewer)

Deeper IDP rosters have players we need for this season, but are not part of our long term plans.  I have had some success in stashing player right before the fantasy playoffs that haven't done anything in the curent season, but have a path to relevance the next year.

I was originally thinking for likely current free agents, but I think we need to cast a wider net, maybe guys that are owned, but we can find a path to greater relevance, trade targets for the offseason, etc.  That way it's helpful for keeper leagues, as well as dynasty leagues.

Helpful links:

http://overthecap.com/ ---IDP owners need to know this site, really good for spotting players that might be cap victims, and then looking for thei replacements.  Mess around with the free agency tabs, you'll get the hang of it.  Best site, along with spotrac for predicting the future.

http://www.ourlads.com/nfldepthcharts/ --Best depth charts site, IMO.  One thing:  They are updated, so IR players are not included in the depth charts.  So bear that in mind.

I encourage people to research on their own, especially in the division of teams you follow.  You have seen your teams, and their opponents, more than the rest of us, so use that info to confirm or question the names we have here.

ARI--Cards have 37 mill in cap space next year, and check these UFA: Calais Campbell, Chandler Jones, Kevin Minter, DJ Swearinger, Tony Jefferson. 37 mill isn't a lot, is it possible they let Calais walk? Maybe, he's not a kid. Frostee Rocker on the other side is old as well. Minter is a FA, but I am darned if I can find a replacement on this roster, I can see a one year prove it deal extension and a rookie here next year. Those safeties are also really worth looking at. Jefferson didn't get a sniff in FA, and came back for a one year deal, he's gonna want a longer deal from someone. Swearinger could be back, or they could both be gone. The names that jump to me on this roster are Robert Nkemdiche and Tyvon Branch. Nkemdiche is a full time starter at DE next year perhaps, oozes potential, and there's always outside chance he gets a DT designation. 3-4 DEs aren't exciting, but not the wasteland they used to be. The Cards have 1.5 mill in guarantees for Tyvon next year, and are not going to pay Swearinger, Jefferson, Branch and Mathieu. Jefferson and Swearinger could see their value plummet next year, and Branch is a fine pickup if you are looking to trade in a 2016 fill-in like Whitner or Blanton.

ATL-This is slim pickings. The future of the team in the back 7, Jones, Neal, Campbell are all rostered, right? I'm looking to acquire Campbell and Neal anywhere I can. Get Neal before he knocks himself out of the league. Concussion concerns with him, IMO, if he keeps up that style. Guy is a kamikaze. If Beasley gets classified as a DE, he is a target, and at DT, Grady Jarrett potentially. The one guy, and this is a reach, is Derric Shelby.  Was getting a lot of PT beore he was injured, and Brooks Reed, Tyson Jackson, and Clayborn are just guys. If ATL's defense continues to improve, you might get some value there. ATL has some players on this team, some depth, and useful role players. They are on the right track. Anyway....

BAL- There's some action here, but we may be a year early. Suggs, Dumervill, and Weddle are all old, but I could see them all being back next year, they have cap space tied up in all three. So guys like Matt Judon and Kamalei Correa might be lesser parts of a rotation next year still. Judon is a LB, but he's 275, and could be reclassifed. He is the one to watch, but it might be 2018. Kendrick Lewis potentially as a S, but there are better options, IMO. I like Timmy Jernigan, would love him more as a DT. Brandon Williams is a UFA, he'll be a priority re-sign, but if he gets to a 4 man line somewhere, his value could jump. Good, good player.

BUF-Have some players getting a LOT of PT that are all UFA: Gilmore, Zach Brown, Lorenzo Alexander, Blanton. The young guys waiting in the wings here are Shaq Lawson and Reggie Ragland. Aaron Williams returning from IR is definitely worth a stash. If Brown or Alexander aren't re-signed, Ragland and Lawson have clear paths to full time duty. Alexander is really interesting, he was a JAG special teams demon, who BLEW UP this year. The Bills have money and draft currency tied up in Hughes and Lawson, could they let him go? I can see it. Brown has been a IDP stud this year, but is he good enough to hold off Ragland? Also possible, they re-sign him, and Preston Brown loses his job. Interesting possibilty regarding Alexander, Lawson, and Hughes: If Rex Ryan goes, and a 4-3 guy comes in, all could be reclassified as DEs. That would make them a LOT more appealing.

CAR- This got a lot more interesting for bad reasons. What if Keuchley is done, via concussions? AJ Klein or David Mayo? Personally, I'm all set with either one. Even if one is the MLB next year, I believe they will be 2 down bangers at best, and Thomas Davis and Shaq Thompson are your 3 down LBs. Shaq is a buy, between Davis being 33, and Luke's concussions, he might get a TON of snaps next year. I am a Thomas Davis guy, and he has 4 mill in dead cap next year, so I think Davis will be a 3 down guy for another year. He is a guy I will trade a mid round rookie pick for this spring. One more year of Thomas Davis is worth that, I'll buy him off a rebuilding team. Mario Addison and Charles Johnson are both UFA, leaving Kony Ealy and little else. If Addison to be re-signed, he might be a worth a look.

CHI-Eh, maybe Jonathan Bullard? The two ILB spots are set, they have Jones-Quartey at SS, but can cut him with no penalty. There will be secondary value here, but who will be starting? If Bullard is reclassified as a DT, I love him, same with Floyd at DE. It would take a coaching change, which seems possible, but unlikely. Willie Young and his backup, Acho, are both FA after this year.

CIN- One thing we know about the Bengals, they are cheap. So a pending FA like Dansby might not be back. Vincent Rey can be cut with no penalty, clearing 3 mill in cap room. Cutting Maualuga would save 4 mill. Hello, Nick Vigil! 3rd round pick, ran a 4.7, could he be a 3 down guy next year? And we know Burfict is creaky. Vigil needs to be rostered before end of season, poster boy for what we talking about. Shawn Williams is locked in at SS, the DEs are set, nothing else here, I don't think.

CLE-Kirksey under contract next year, Collins will be franchised, no LB to chase. Ogbah, reclassified as a DE is possible, but it sure seems like a risk for a roster spot. Look out now, but Ibraheim Campbell has establsihed himself, and is playing more. Can do worse for an end of bench S. Carl Nassib for a deep cut at DE.

DAL-Jaylon Smith, right?  I would love it, but man, I am not optimisitc.  If you have not seen his highlights, go do it right now, it's IDP porn.  Such a stud in college.  Church and Wilcox are both FA, and Dallas has cap trouble.  Wilcox migh be a cheaper option for them, and DAL SS has put up numbers.  Mailek Collins at DT, Jack Crawford and Terrell McClain are both FA.

DEN- DeMarcus Ware is a UFA, Shane Ray might be on your wire, and could be a nice big play IDP OLB on the end of your bench. Todd Davis is cheap next year, he might keep his job. Darian Stewart is a UFA, Justin Simmons could take his job, but the S that isn't TJ Ward isn't going to be a consistent performer.

DET- Have a lot of D-linemen UFA: Devin Taylor, Tyrunn Walker, Armonty Bryant. Kerry Hyder might be a buy, but word is out on him. A'Shawn Robinson at DT, perhaps. Rafael Bush is a FA, Miles Killebrew is worth a look. If you can pick him up in the offseason, that's a guy I would look for. If they let Bush walk, and don't grab a S in FA or the draft. Also, if they don't add a LB, he is moneybacker size. Lottery ticket.

GB- Only guy I like as a but is Blake Martinez. Both safety spots are set, and the Pack won't be signing any expensive FA linebackers, so Martinez seems very safe for most LB snaps next year. Probably a good buy, even if you don't love the player. Perry and Peppers are both FA, but I don't see another edge guy here.

HOU-Wilfork and John Simon are the only FA of note, so it seems like the studs in the front 7 remain the same: Watt, McKinney, Clowney. Their S spots have been IDP wastelands, let's go fishing elsewhere.

IND-D'Qwell is 33 years old, and there are gonna be tackles next year. So who? Well, they tried David irving, Sio Moore, Antonio Morrison, Josh McNary, and Edwin Jackson. The answer? Clayton Geathers at S. Check the snap counts, the Colts aren't trusting any of thes LBs with snaps. We might see two new LBs next year, but probably one next to D'Qwell. Any LB this team drafts needs to be closely looked at. I liked Morrison coming out of college, but I ain't rostering him.

JAX-The 2017 potential here is all young and high profile: Fowler, Telvin, Jack, Cyprien, and Ramsey. The ONE guy I like: Yannick Ngakoue, and that's a reach, he has designated pass rusher written all over him. I might like Fowler as a buy low, and if you own Myles Jack, you should worry. He can't get on the field??

KC-The pass rushers are set, the S are set, Chris Jones is interesting at DE, and the ILB spot right now next to DJ is Ramik Wilson, check his availability. Sorenson can be cut.

LA- The only gold here might be at S, TJ McDonald is a FA, as is Trumaine Johnson. I've no idea who the backup for McDonald is. Barron, Ogletree, Hayes, Quinn all under contract.

MIA-FIns took no one of interest on defense the last two drafts, aside from Tony Lippett at CB, who might be a player. Reshad Jones returns next year, taking all the S value, but the names to track here might be Zach Vigil, Neville Hewitt, and Andre Branch. Branch is a UFa, but might come back, and take a job if Wake and/or Mario Williams go bye bye. I always liked him. Vigil or Hewitt could take Jelani Jenkins' job, or Alonso could get hurt again. Hewitt has gotten snaps this year, Vigil has not.

MIN-I see nothing here. All good players under contract, maybe a Kentrell Borothers can get some snaps, maybe Jayron Kearse can take Sendejo's job. I got nothing.

NE- Elandon Roberts is a buy, and I bet he is a 3 down LB more than Hightower is, assuming he doesn't suck. Even if he has quiet games this year, I will look to buy. Sheard is a FA, and Flowers has taken his job. Is he rostered? Go get him. Hightower is a FA, but I bet dollars to dougnuts he re-signs.

NO-So the Saints have a bad cap situation, as usual. They can finally get out rom under Jairus Byrd's deal, and clear 3 mill or so, and I bet they do. Question is, does that hurt Vonn Bell's value, forcing him to play deep? It might. Robertson seems relatviely safe next year, but the guys to stash might be Stephone Anthony and Kikaha at DE.

NYG-Could be something here, but it's a leap of faith. JPP and Keenan Robinson are both UFA. If Owa Odighizuwa is ready, he might be the DE to take over for JPP, but he hasn't been good enough to spellJPP or Vernon this year. All the Giant LBs are average, and Keenan led them in tackles, so BJ Goodson is intersting, only because he hasn't shown he is JAG, unlike all the rest of them. JT Thomas, Casillas, and even Kennard ar potential cap casualties. I think he's an offseason, or summer waiver pick up, rather than a stash. He hasn't sniffed the field.

NYJ-Jets have cap issues, but can easily clear space by cutting Revis, David Harris, and trading Sheldon Richardson. They love Harris, does he stay another year? If not, take a peek at Julian Stanford and Taiwan Jones (not the Raider RB).

OAK-Raiders have a LB core in flux. Perry Riley, who has been solid, but not a tackle monster, and Malcolm Smith, who has been a solid IDP option, are both FA. A bargain exension for Riley is possible, as is Smith, but I could see the Raiders moving on from Smith if Heeney or Cory James develop. James is the better athlete, Heeney's best role might be a 2 down SLB type. If forced to choose, I would go James. It's a risk though. Along the D-line, Mario Edwards is a guy I want. Base DE, slides inside on passing downs, and in a position to get sacks pushed to him from Irvin and Mack. The issue in the back 7 is talent, the Raiders have DBs that are active, and the D is improving, there might not much value at the LB spots.

PHI-If Mychal Kendricks is cut, and lands on his feet somewhere, maybe he regains his value. McLeod, Hicks, Graham and Bradham seem like the IDP to won next year, same as this year. Nolan Caroll is a FA.

PIT- I liked Bud Dupree, and Harrison is old, and Jarvis Jones sucks. Big play OLB stash for sure. If Timmons walks, Vince Williams is a starter, and Shazier likes to get hurt. Potential LB2 next year. Get him. The safeties are both replaceable, I want neither one, maybe Sean Davis takes a job, he's worth a watch list.

SD-Te'o is a FA, as is Jahleel Addae. Perryman is worth a stash, maybe he can bounce back. If Addae leaves, Stucky and Lowery are interesting, but the S spot has been a jumble. McCoil, Adrian Phillips, who knows?

SF-Team is mess for the forseeable future, there's value to be had. Antoine Bethea is a FA, if he leaves, amybe Jaquiski Tartt can step in. Has moneybacker size. The only stash LB here is Shayne Skov, but that's a longshot, he was a UDFA who has seen no snaps. If they draft a MLB high, I'm gonna take a hard look. Rashard Robinson is a look in CB leagues.

SEA-All the studs back next year, their most expensive FA is the dang kicker. No gold in these here hills.

TB-Noah Spence at DE, both safeties are UFA, is Ryan Smith playing S? More likely they bring McDougand back, or find a vet, or draft pick or two.

TEN-Rashad Johnson and Daimion Stafford are UFA, Kevin Byard is a stash at S. Sean Spence is a FA, can Woodyard hang onto a 3 down job? I doubt it. Derrick Morgan and Orakpo nearing the end, Kevin Dodd, and even David Bass, if he re-signs, are ptential big play OLB types.

WSH-There's a S spot here, but all 2016 S are UFA, and none are worth of a stash. Su'a Cravens is the back 7 guy to grab, and I think Preston Smith is a buy low. Breeland at CB for sure, across from Josh Norman.

I had been working on this post for a couple days but you beat me to it.

DT

Beau Allen PHI. The Eagles gave Fletcher Cox a huge contract. Bennie Logan will be a UFA this year. They can't pay both. Allen should be the starter next year and has produced in limited action this year.

Andrew Billings CIN. Domata Peko will be a UFA. He's not the most expensive guy out there so he might resign or they might move on to Billings.

Vernon Butler CAR. The Panthers can't pay both KK Short and Star Lotulelei.

DE

Trey Flowers NE. Both Jabaal Sheard and Chris Long will be UFAs. Even if they resign one, there should be more opportunities for Flowers.

Adam Gotsis DEN. This may be a year early yet, but I'll just leave this here,"Gotsis was so enticing to Broncos defensive line coach Bill Kollar, he asked coach Gary Kubiak every day before the draft if the team was going to select him."

LB

Vince Williams PIT. Lawrence Timmons will be a UFA and an expensive one at that. Williams got a contract extension last offseason and proved he could produce when Shazier was banged up this year.

Damien Wilson DAL. Wilson won the base package SAM role this year. He’s an unathletic-but-still-produces guy. He was drafted in the 4th round in 2015. Worth a spot on the watchlist at the very least.

Kentrell Brothers MIN. Chad Greenway will be a UFA and will probably retire (I’m pretty sure, last year, he said he would play for one more year.). If Brothers takes over the WILL that’s good, but there are too many good players to compete for tackles. And I don't see him getting a 3 down role behind Kendricks and Barr. I have him in a league or two. I might look to sell high on him if it becomes apparent he’ll be the starting WILL.

DJ Alexander KC. This may be a bit of a long shot. When Justin March went down this year, they looked at who was already on the roster. Alexander is the backup for Derrick Johnson. DJ is still playing well and has 2 years left on his contract, but he is 34 years old. Alexander mainly plays on special teams, but that was said about Zachary Orr and Todd Davis last year. If you think DJ retires and have a spare roster spot, Alexander could be worth a pickup.

CB I normally don't like carrying CBs in the offseason, but with expanded rosters, I might hold on to one or two.

Trae Waynes MIN. Both Terrance Newman and Captain Munnerlyn will be UFAs. They have kept Waynes involved this year.

Mackenzie Alexander MIN. See Trae Waynes minus the involvement. If Newman signs elsewhere/retires since he’s as older than your dad, Waynes should take his place on the outside. If Munnerlyn signs elsewhere, Alexander will take his spot in the slot.

Eric Rowe NE. Malcolm Butler and Logan Ryan will be UFAs. Rowe started over Ryan recently, but was benched.

Cyrus Jones NE. Jones was probably drafted to replace either Butler or Ryan. He has been a healthy scratch for several games so that plan may no longer be in effect.

Deiondre Hall CHI. 4th round draft pick for the Bears. Hasn't been able to stay healthy this year. Insane wingspan.

S

Jaquiski Tartt SF. For real this year, maybe... The 49ers tried to trade Antoine Bethea away last offseason but couldn’t find any takers. Bethea has another year on his contract.

Dexter McCoil SD. McCoil has played in the Arena Football league and the Canadian football league. He had a good preseason with the Chargers and produced a bit during the season. Jahleel Addae will be a UFA. Might be a stretch but there's a non-zero chance McCoil is the starter next year.

James Sample JAC. Drafted in the 4th round in 2015, Sample was expected to challenge Johnathan Cyprien for snaps this year. That didn’t take because Sample was injured in preseason and IRed. Cyprien will be a UFA.

Ryan Smith TBB. This one is DEEP. Drafted in the fourth round this year. Both Bucs starting Safeties will be UFAs. Smith played CB in college so he’d probably end up being a FS or slot CB.

Situations to keep an eye on for either free agents who sign or rookies getting drafted:

SF LB – Michael Wilhoite, Nick Bellore and Gerald Hodges are all UFAs. Someone has to play ILB. And the 49ers will have plenty of tackle opportunities.

ARI S – Both Tony Jefferson and DJ Swearinger are UFAs. Honeybadger will be there, if there’s an opening, ARI S can be one of the best producing roles in IDP.

BUF S – Aaron Williams had a career-threatening neck injury. Robert Blanton and Duke Williams will be UFAs. Buffalo has one of the most generous stat crews in the NFL.

he is not an unknown after his hot start this year but he may have been dumped after his recent slow down.  Danielle Hunter (DE Min).  He is a stud and is only lacking snaps to be an impact DL for IDP especially in big play leagues.  He has a great motor and can run down players down the field.  If Robison leaves this will open up the path to consistent snaps and studly results.  Like I said, some owners may be souring on Hunter due to the down past weeks so I would snatch him up if you have a stash spot and he might even help this year too.

ChicagoArch

Footballguy
Hunter is a Force player. So was Preston Smith from last year's class. Smith should have some positive Sack regression coming at the end of this year.

Shaq Lawson was a Force player this year. He's worth a pickup/trade if you think Rex doesn't survive the year and they potentially switch to a 4-3 next year. Lawson would become a DE. At the beginning of the year, the owner told Rex and the GM if they didn't make the playoffs, they were out.

I forgot Charles Tapper, DE, from Dallas. Potentially a Force player. Ended up on IR this year. Drafted in the 4th round. Dallas could definitely use more production from the DE spot. I'm betting he gets a chance to play next year.

FUBAR

Footballguy
Matt Judon, de/lb - small school project drafted by one of the best finders of talent in the league, on a team that needs new blood but has done well over the past decade.  Not the next suggs but should be pretty decent.

saintfool

Dead sexy
FS Byard on the Titans. 3rd rounder who is getting some burn now. He's reasonably productive in right now and has a 30-yo UFA ahead of him.

S McCray on Seattle. He's played well with Kam out with injury yet again. Kam has a year left on his contract but would only cost $1 million against the cap if he was cut. He'd save them like $7 million against the cap. Kam plays great and all *but* he's in and out of the line up over the past 2 years.

I was on the Cory James train earlier but I'm convinced that Riley is here to stay. He's only 28, JDR has been gushing about him, and he's been productive.

Arodin

Footballguy
Second the Tartt and Byard nominations.  Both good players with paths to increased playing time in the near future...

Hankmoody

Footballguy
Miles Killerew DET S

Sean Davis PIT S

Nick Vigil CIN LB

BJ Goodson NYG LB

Jaylon Smith DAL LB - might be flying under the radar in smaller roster leagues with bye season in full swing.

Nick Kwiatkoski CHI LB - tough path to playing time with Freeman and Trevathan just being signed but he's got skills

Adolphus Washington BUF DE - 40% snaps and Kyle Williams is O L D.  Has some pass rush savvy and might get listed at DT for those required leagues.

Some guys I have on my DTS's (a few actives) in my 4 leagues that I'm especially pumped on:

Elandon Roberts (LB - NEP) - been discussed in this forum before and think he'll only get better after an off-season of seasoning.  The dude is a missile.  Have him in 2 leagues.

Jude Adjei-Barimah (CB - TBB):  also seen his name thrown around here recently.  Love his size and ability to play in the box if needed.  In either big-play leagues or leagues that split out CB/S from "DB", I am a big-time buyer. Have him in one of each.

Jalen Mills (CB - PHI):  probably best suited for slot CB but has some safety-type skill.  Malcolm Jenkins is signed long-term so probably not going to slide over, though.

Antoine Williams (LB - DET):  I think DeAndre Levy is toast.  Williams is big and rangy and could stuff the statsheet.  Tahir Whitehead is good enough to continue to man the middle but there are some stats to be had in the Lion linebacking corps and they could easily go to Williams in 2017, especially if Levy's hip continues to be an issue.

Carl Nassib (DL - CLE):  The Browns have absolutely nothing of note aside from perhaps Emmanuel Ogbah (still work in progress) and Danny Shelton (big body, no fantasy value) on that front part of their line.  Nassib is a "lunch box" guy that will work hard.  Please don't construe this as a direct comp to J.J. Watt, but let's say he COULD be a VERY poor man's Joey Bosa in a couple of years.  High motor and disruptive.  Could be a deep sleeper, perfect stash.

Vonn Bell (S - NOS):  The Saints will continue to be a "bend but don't break" kind of D in 2017.  I think Kenny Vaccaro is good, but perhaps leaning towards average.  Give this guy the off-season to develop and I'm betting he'll be the tackle leader for the Saints' safeties in 2017.

A.J. Bouye (CB - HOU):  PFF's third-best grade at CB this year (!!!).  Maybe beneficiary of the old "rookie corner" rule, but maybe he's just a ballhawk.  In CB-start leagues, I dig him.  And, glad I decided to respond here... upon taking a look at the league I have him in (and was going to start him), I found out he's headed in for an MRI on his ankle after a Friday injury.  Doh.

Adrian Amos and Harold Jones-Quartey (S - CHI):  J-Q is starting to look more and more like a "JAG", and Amos is the more pedigreed player and will likely emerge as the better fantasy performer in 2017.  But I have both in one league and could ditch one this off-season.

I was on the Cory James train earlier but I'm convinced that Riley is here to stay. He's only 28, JDR has been gushing about him, and he's been productive.
What if it wasn't Riley's spot he was taking?

Malcolm Smith's 2 year deal expires after this season, he's no lock to get a new deal.  James was probably considered an OLB to most draft geeks coming out, alhough he played all over the defense in college.

Riley also is working on a street free agent one year deal, but thus far it seems like a modest extension makes sense.  But right now, as it stands, the only LBs with any starting experience under contract for 2017 are, I think, Cory James and Ben Heeney.

There are a lot of ways James can become irrelevant next year, but there are paths to 3 down work as well.  He's worth a mention on this list, as is Heeney, actually.  Heeney was the starter at MLB, his coverage mistakes vs. ATL cost them the game, and he was benched.  He was injured before he had a chance to regain his spot, but the Raiders were bullish on him preseason.

Footballguy
Ridiculously high ceiling - Chris Jones, KCC DE.  Still raw and the production isn't there yet, but he's been extremely disruptive. Can't understate this guy's potential.

ETA: from today

Subscribing..... mostly out of commission this week but love the idea. Anecdote.... someone dropped Vince Williams in one 50+ roster league and I pounced. woohoo! does he still look like a shoe-in to start next year? (ignore if alreday answered and I'll catch up next week)

You weren't talking to me, but I'm a Steeler fan, soooo......

"Shoe-in" may be overstating it a bit, since there's a lot of things that can happen between now and next year, but all signs seems to point to the Steelers probably parting ways with Timmons in '17.  Williams was extended last year, so he should get first crack to replace Timmons if he's no longer on the team.

Floyd is incapable physically playing DE at the pro level. He's never going to be able to hold up at that position. He is too light and has real trouble keeping the weight on. it was a big problem in the offseason and hard to imagine he's fixed it in season.

Yeah, I don't think any of these stashes are locks, a TON can happen by next season. Timmons could easily sign a friendly deal to finish his career there.

Having said that, Williams is exactly the kind of guy we talking about here. A guy who could see his value jump in the spring.

If I was drafting from the players we have listed, Williams would be a top three pick.

I mentioned Sheldon Rankins previously and being the 12th overall pick in the draft should have him on fantasy teams already.

But just in case; and to emphasize his impact, the Saints had 7 total sacks in the first seven games.  With Rankins hitting the field and demanding attention right up the gut, not only has he provided one sack in his three games but the team now has 10 sacks in those three games with Rankins on the field.

Pitt rookie Hargrave played 70% of snaps, mostly at DE when Cam Heyward was out weeks 6 and 7. He did little on paper but continued to get nice snaps when Heyward returned. Hargrave is again anticipated to take a bulk of Hayward's snaps going forward, many of those snaps at DE but is a DT on MFL. I have a feeling his numbers go up after some much needed playing time early on and I like him long term as well. Worth a flyer.

I think the Steelers like him well enough, but I wonder if he can handle three-down work if pressed into playing time.  FWIW, I know in the pre-season they had him wearing the green dot by the end of TC when the backups where on the field.  Get an Olsavsky vibe from him more than anything.  Guy who is smart, which helps him make up for his lack of athleticism, but I would expect DCs would find a way to take advantage if he were out there close to full time.  If he turns out to be a good reserve, that pick was a homerun.  Anything more than that?  Playing with house money at that point.

If I was drafting from the players we have listed, Williams would be a top three pick.
As of today?  I could get behind that, yeah.  Post draft next year?  Maybe not if they burned a high pick on another interior type LB.   That was the only point I was trying to make.  I expect Williams winds up starting for the Steelers for at least the beginning on next year regardless(and I doubt they're drafting an ILB early next year.  They need better rushers DESPERATELY), with a decent chance to hold on to the spot if he stays healthy.

This is the guy on Pittsburgh I'd be trying to grab in dynasty as a hold if I was thin on the D line.  Tuitt and Cam are in front of him at end long term(Cam anyway.  Tuitt's a FA in '18), but he looked really strong in camp rushing from the inside.  If he can just get into a regular rotation with the two starters at end, then get some work as a rush nose in even fronts, he could make a little noise even if he's technically "a backup."  For as big as he is he has some explosion to his game.

Hargrave with a sack, FR and a TD scored first game as a starter today.
He looked good, but I would temper it some in that it was against Cleveland and they are  a mess.  Good stash though....and you will get to see him finish out the year with Cam out for the year...Definitely worth picking up to see if he progresses for the rest of the year.

Last week Flowers got the start and then this week Jabaal Sheard didn't even TRAVEL to SF. Flowers is no longer a stash, he's a potential starter that may still be on the wire playing for a team that should force most opponent's into passing situations.

Totally, but he got some PT, had a shot to make a few plays and made them.  Step in the right direction.

Yep, I wasn't really paying attention there, he was snapped up in my leagues.

Guys in my leagues are really doing their homework now. Annoying.

Someone in one of my leagues picked up Neville Hewitt, MIA LB. Google had this to say http://dailydolphin.blog.palmbeachpost.com/2016/11/24/miami-dolphins-view-neville-hewitt-as-potential-full-time-starter/ Anyone know anything else about him? The Dolphins seem frustrated with Jelani Jenkins. Is Hewitt worth a preemptive pickup or just a watchlist at this point?

I hate that as well, may only be 7 - 10 owners as active as I am ( I am only in 2 leagues both 32 teams full IDP)  but that's all it takes. If I hesitate or miss a guy early I can forget it, as my teams are generally pretty good and I am usually at the bottom on the weekly WW.

Definitely a "hold" prospect.  I'd make room for him too if he were available.  I expect improvement if he can get his head on straight.  And even if not, Campbell is no spring chicken.

They obviously saw the negative denouncement of him by Arians.

But that's what you do with rookies sometimes -- put them on blast. For many players the difference between year 1 and 2 is often huge.

"D.J. Alexander came in briefly for Derrick Johnson and showed us that he’s the future at that position. Draft and develop. That’s general manager John Dorsey’s game and it’s working. Same can be said of Rakeem Nunez-Roches." Charles Goldman from Chiefs Wire on DJ Alexander. Alexander ended with 4 solos. Can't find his snap count though.

RNR has seen his snap count increase each of the last 3 weeks and is listed as a DT on MFL.

I thought the future was Ramik Wilson?  I know Wilson was cut and resigned earlier this year, but seems that Wilson has taken back the next in line title?

Wilson played 40 snaps on D to Alexander's 0 this past week against Atl.  Alexander was available since played 20 ST snaps.http://www.pro-football-reference.com/boxscores/201612040atl.htm#all_vis_snap_counts

Wilson and Alexander play different positions. Alexander backs up Derrick Johnson at the Will. Wilson is currently playing at the Mike ILB. The Will usually has a better shot at being a 3-down LB because the Mike is more of a hitter to stop the run game. DJ is a 3-down LB. Justin March-Lillard was never a 3-down LB when he was healthy. For all the stats Wilson has put up, he still hasn't been a 3-down LB. If DJ retires, Alexander would have the first crack at the Will and 3-down potential.

Wilson vs March will be interesting to watch in training camp next year. March won the job this year, but Wilson has played better than him when given the chance. Wilson's snaps are up vs March's and Daniel Sorenson's snaps are down since Wilson took over (Sorenson plays LB in sub packages, replacing the Mike).

These are some deep dives, very deep dives. Most of them are more watchlist than roster-worthy. Most will probably never be usable or won’t be usable for multiple years. But I’ve got a spare roster spot or two and I’m curious if any of these guys are on anybody else’s radar. Even without Aaron Donald, I’m stacked at DT, I’ve got 10 LBs already rostered and I don’t want to carry any CBs in the offseason, so I focused on DE and S, my biggest roster weaknesses. In your opinion, do any of these guys have the potential for useful production in the not too-distant future? And let me know if I missed anyone. My primary league is 16 team-equivalent with 50 player rosters and balanced IDP scoring so don’t be afraid to go too deep.

DE

Ronald Blair – SFO 5th Rounder. 49ers obviously have Buckner and Armstead. Unfortunately, for the rest of Chip Kelley’s tenure, Blair didn’t go to Oregon so his snaps will probably be limited.

Geneo Grissom – NEP Started the year on the practice squad. Has played 8 snaps on the year. Was actually drafted ahead of Trey Flowers. Both Long and Sheard will be UFAs.

Alex McCalister – PHI 7th rounder. Character issues and skinny for a DE. But has athletic potential and any time you can get a DE in Jim Schwartz’s wide 9, it’s got the chance to be a very good move.

Dean Lowery – GBP Lunchpail 5th rounder has a lot of guys ahead of him on the depth chart. Had a decent game this week when given snaps due to injuries.

Marcus Smith – PHI Former 1st rounder that was miscast as an OLB in Chip Kelley’s 3-4 scheme, back at DE. Behind Graham, Barwin and Curry in Schwartz’s Wide 9. All three are signed longer than Smith. Barwin is 30… Just trying to find a way to give this guy a chance…

S

Marqui Christian – RAM Small school box safety drafted in 5th round has played 3 snaps all year. TJ McDonald, current starting SS will be a UFA this offseason. They are obviously willing to use a S at a LB spot but Christian would need to put on some more muscle to pull off that transition.

Clayton Fejedelem – CIN 7th round rookie has played a few snaps with SS Shawn Williams coming back from injury. Heard good things about him around the time of the draft. Both Williams and Iloka are signed for several years. Walked on to an NAIA school before transferring to the Big Ten to walk on at Illinois.

Duron Harmon – NEP FS soon to be UFA, currently plays 30%-40% of the snaps, could be signed by some other team to play all the snaps. Most other teams love picking up guys who’ve played for Belicheck.

DeAndre Houston-Carson – CHI DHC had a higher draft grade than Deon Bush but was drafted 2 rounds later. They liked him for his kick blocking talent. Could get a chance next year because no one seems set in the Bears secondary or will stay on special teams since he hasn’t seen a snap on defense all year.

Harold Jones-Quartey – CHI Lost his starting spot to Deon Bush but produced from a fantasy perspective this year. He started for Amos when Amos was out last week. His production could depend on an injury ahead of him.

Jayron Kearse – MIN 7th rounder behind Andrew Sendejo at SS. Played serious snaps in one game while Sendejo was banged up. They used somebody else in the 2nd game Sendejo was out... Limited tackle opportunities behind the Viking’s talented defense.

Dexter McCoil – SDC Former Arena League and Canadian League player blew up in the preseason. Jahleel Addae will be a UFA.

Kelcie McCray – SEA Someone suggested the Seahawks could move on from the expensive and often-injured Kam Chancellor and give McCray a shot after he produced this year. With a little potential uncertainty around Earl Thomas at the moment, I’m thinking that might be a little more unlikely. That said, McCray will be a UFA. He could sign elsewhere. Most teams want to steal Seahawk defenders. If he was a starting SS on some other team, I would be interested.

Will Parks – DEN At least a year too early, probably more, but 6th rounder behind TJ Ward on the depth chart at SS. Ward is a UFA in 2018, but is also only 29 and is a very important part of that defense.

Daniel Sorensen – KC This may be a stretch and maybe I’ve just a soft spot for him because I used him for a couple of his blow up games, but Eric Berry will be a UFA and I’ve heard he wants to be the highest paid safety in the league. Outside chance the Chiefs decide not to pay him?

J.J. Wilcox – DAL Both Barry Church and Wilcox will be UFAs. Chance Wilcox returns without Church or is signed by another team?

One name Ill put forth that people should have an eye on... NYG DE Romeo Okwara.

I already owned him in a deep league based on his preseason work and JPP being on a 1 year contract. Now with JPP out he should get a lot of snaps and be able to show one-way-or-the-other.  But in preseason he was being used even on the inside because they considered him their strongest pass rusher (as a undrafted rookie) outside of JPP and Vernon.

BigSteelThrill

Another one Im sitting on since preseason that is similar if you have DT required is Raiders undrafted DT Darius Latham. He already is getting some snaps in and showing well.

He is going to miss this week, but he was the top PFF graded DT in the preseason and has shown he deserves to be in the league thus far.

Listening to the beat reporter in Chicago, the Bears are letting him audition a little with the suspension. He's behind Travathan and Freeman for sure but, right now, could be seen as Freeman's heir. Somewhat speculative add, imo.
