Barrett Ruud (1 Viewer)

Just wondering if we've seen enough to adjust Ruud's standing in the rankings forward or if he's an excellent buy low candidate....

Anyone that ha performed as he has the last 2 years and has put together two clunkers to start the 3rd season, is a great buy low candidate. Same system and essentially the same players. One of the only downsides I see is that the TB secondary is horrible and teams are passing much more now than in previous seasons. With that said, Tanard Jackson comes back in 2 weeks and should bolster that group. If you can get Ruud for cheap it is worth it. If you have to pay top dollar then I would take a wait and see approach.

It's a different system, and the players have changed in the secondary, as well as Brooks. I don't think he's a top 5 LB at this point, but he's still worth owning.

I think this week will tell us more. The Giants should provide plenty of tackle opps and if Ruud doesn't turn it around with a solid tackle outing, I think it may be time to start worrying about him being a top option at LB.

Ruud made 14 tackles last week, i dont get why people are complaining about that. Granted 9 of those tackles were assists, that seems like an abnormally large number.

Footballguys projected Ruud to score 20.5 using my leagues scoring and he scored 19. I'll take that every week and not complain!

He did fine in my league too, #5 amongst LBs. I think we can safely assume he stays in LB1 territory.

But after his weak showing in week 1 and then his decent but not stellar performance in week 2 the concern isn't that he'll drop below LB1, the concern is that he's not the dominant #1 or #2 (Willis-esque) defender that many of us projected.

Also i think there's something to say for his actual play, beyond the box score, he hasn't shown the ability and the situation around him hasn't looked as ideal to allow for IDP supremacy as we thought it would.

Thanks for that info. We only get credit for solos so I had no idea he had that many assisted tackles. I feel better about him now. 9 assisted does seem like a really high number

Ruud is a tough case.

He's in a primo scheme for potential production, is presumably healthy and has a track record of all-around play. However, two somewhat unforeseen issues are hindering his numbers. First, his potential within the scheme is affected by the play of the defensive tackles in front of him. On the majority of plays I've reviewed, Ruud is seeing the center or guard get to him in the second level nearly unslowed by the DTs. And he's not shedding the blocks particularly well. That, plus the unexpectedly strong competition for tackles from Geno Hayes and Quincy Black (who have both been very quick to the ball) is keeping Ruud a half step from the play.

It's hard to see the DT play improving, but it's also hard to see the OLBs keeping up their current pace. And the Phillips loss should work in Ruud's (and Hayes') favor.

He's a hold for me right now, but I don't know how he gets back on a 100 solo pace unfortunately. Really disappointing how this situation is working out for him.

Like I posted in the Geno Hayes thread, I expect Ruud to be second on that team in tackles. Hayes, a 3 down backer at WLB, still seems to have the tackles funneled to his side.I would trade Ruud while his name is high, and go get Hayes. :bs:
