Bears Nuggets from camp today (1 Viewer)

I think the Bears hit gold with the two Sooner DLinemen: Harris and Dvoracek. Dvoracek is way underrated and I hear he has his life back together after a battle with the bottle and a suspension from the Sooners.

By the way, thanks Grid for the update

Doesn't deserve its own thread, so I'll post it here...

Anyone else see the interview with Ron Rivera last night on Chicago Tribune Live on Comcast? They were talking to him, among other things, about why he thought he didn't get a HC job this offseason. (STL, Detroit)

They covered everything with him, except the hard-hitting & obvious question: 'Did he think the horrendous game plan vs. Steve Smith in the playoffs cost him a HC job?'

Don't think for a second that Chico Rivera isn't a puppet DCoordinator. Lovie Smith calls the shots. That's why Rivera never wavers from the 'that was our game plan - and that's what got us into the playoffs' nonsense.

Once DeShaun Foster went down, they should have TRIPLE COVERED Steve Smith. Did they? No.

Dumb... dumb... dumb...

They were playing without their two starting safeties on that last TD though. Hell... Azumah was out too. Matter of fact, I don't think Mike Brown or Azumah played a lick in the second half.

Grid a couple of things:

1. who is the face on Mr. Peanut.

2. I know you've been on this board a lot so you have experience, especially with your Bears. In your opinion, is Cedric and Adrian just OK to take over or do you see either one being a stud?

1. Charles (Peanut) Tillman2. Benson could be a stud, and Adrian is an above average backup - and probably the best 3rd stringer in the league if T-Jones comes back. Benson looked less tentative than last year - but then again, they're playing in shorts, shoulder pads/helmets - so he should look good. Too soon to make a call on this - but missing an entire training camp prior to last season certainly didn't help Benson.

3. Did Urlacher have 36 branded on his chest? I think so, but then again, Jerome Bettis has a 54 branded on his chest too. ;)

Good stuff. I look forward to your next reports.

These types of threads are greatly informative.

I would think it would be a good idea for "the powers-that-be" to create a pinned thread with links to all threads like this (I'm assuming more are created).

Kudo to Grid!

I too am more worried about the Bears defensive coaching and schemes than any of the specific personel on the defense. I dont care what statistics you throw around, last years D was not on par with the great Ds of all time. There are weak points that the 00 Ravens or 85 Bears didnt have. They are still a great defense, but i worry more about Martz picking them apart with his brain than Favre with his arm. The Bears dont get to the QB enough to just throw their DBs out there and and say 'beat us'. This team needs to be dynamic and sneaky to some degree or it will get picked apart.

I think Carolina and Delhome revealed that weakness last year, and if the Bears want to have any chance in the upper levels against guys like Bulger and Hasselbeck (much less Manning or Brady), they are going to need to prevent those guys from getting the matchups they want.

I know it is way too early for this, but BEAR with me here as I try to project the 52 man roster. There should be a lot of tough decisions this year, but this is how I see it as of today.

QB-

Grossman - Griese - Orton

RB-

Benson - Jones - Peterson

FB-

Johnson - Runnels

WR-

Muhammed - Bradley - Berrian - Gage - Currie

TE-

Clark - Gilmore - Day

OL

Tait - Miller - St. Clair - Metcalf - Brown - Garza - Edwards - Kreutz - Mannely

DE

Ogunleye - Brown - Idonije - Anderson

DT

Harris - Scott - Dvoracek - Johnson

LB

Urlacher - Briggs - Hillenmeyer - Williams - Joe - Odom - Abandajeyo

CB

Tillman - Vasher - Manning Jr. - Wesley - Hester

S-

Brown - Manning - Harris - Slay (more than likely Slay will we on the practice squad, but I see McGowan making the team and Johnson being cut, I don't know if I prefer this with Browns injury history, the proven Johnson would probably be good to keep but I don't see the Bears keeping him)

K-

Gould

P-

Maynard

PUP-

McGowan - will probably replace Slay once he is healthy

Rashied Davis

Players making the team due to special teams: Ayanbadejo, Wesley, Mannely Possibly could include: Bannister or Davis but the WR corps would be crowded and I don't think we could keep Currie on the practice squad.

Tough Calls:

Michael Haynes - it would be ideal if we could trade him for a late draft pick, but there is just too much depth on the line right now and no one else to cut.

Alfonso Boone - just a numbers game, he has been decent but again we have too much depth

Todd Johnson - I really don't know what way they will go with the safeties, but I get the feeling they have seen enough of Johnson. Personally I still have some faith in Johson but it does not seem like the coaches do anymore. Slay is an undrafted free agent so it is more likely that he is on the practice squad but I think the roster spot will go to McGowan once he is healthy.

John Huston - has a chance to make the team as Gould is not completely proven and Gould is not good on kickoffs

McKie - based on Johnson's health, and the level of faith they have in late round pick Runnels

Hollings- If the Bears were to trade Thomas Jones, which I doubt.

I think Carolina exposed an unbelieveable brain cramp, nothing more. Not doubling Steve Smith into the ground was the problem. I'm STILL shaking my head at that game...
