Ben Roethlisberger? Has the Luck run out (1 Viewer)

Im a big steeler fan ,and im beginning to wonder has Ben's luck simply run out. He relied so much on making 2 and 3 guy's miss, and coming up with a big play downfield. Now that's turning in to multiple interceptions every game. He never was really fundamental when it came to simply taking a field goal ,or just simply allowing the team to punt the football ,and trust your defense. I don't know if he will every be a fundamental QB who simply throws the ball away when nobody is open. Forcing passes turned in to big plays over the last 2 years ,but now its turning in to picks.

I saw this quote by Roethlisberger and it doesn't really sound like he has the same desire to be in there. He seems to be playing scared and just chucking the ball to avoid getting hit. There's no way they should have lost to Oakland and I don't think they would have, had Batch been in there.

Ed Bouchette, of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, reports Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Bill Cowher said he has no intentions of changing quarterbacks. QB Ben Roethlisberger said he would support Cowher's decision if he decided to start QB Charlie Batch. Roethlisberger said, "I want what's best for the team. If that's Charlie Batch being in there, then that's Charlie Batch being in there. I want what's best for this team to help it win. I'm not going to cry and complain about getting pulled. My job is to go out and play good football, so that there isn't even a decision to be made."

I don't think Cower wants to ruin Ben's confidents over the long haul ,but he has to do what is best for the team ,and try and save this season. If Batch is the better QB right now ,go with him.

Ben is their future and whatever problems he may have, he must work out now. Benching him in a season that (for intents and purposes) is already lost is not gonna do anyone good. If I'm the Steelers, I want to know as soon as possible whether or not Ben will be their franchise qb for years to come.

Ben had back to back 100+ QB rating games followed up by a 300+ yardage passing game. He has been making some bad decisions by forcing some balls in wrong situations but he is still a QB that can make plays and pass the ball well. Steelers in general are moving the ball very well on offense and are keeping the other team from moving the ball very well. Every week though, they're finding a new creative way to lose ball games when the either play equally well (see stats on Cincy, San Diego, Atlanta games) or flat out dominate opposition (Oakland game). Only game that got a real smack down and deserved to lose was the Jacksonville game (9-0 loss). Without various untimely mistakes they could easily be a 6-1 team.

I agree it certainly doesn't sound like the words of a confident starting QB.

I wouldn't read too much into this. I honestly think Ben has a tremendous passion to win (just like any other qb) and is extremely frustrated right now. He is a very modest player so is trying to say the right things but I don't believe for one second that Ben doesn't want to be on that field on Sunday.

Yeah, it would have been MUCH BETTER for him to say, "I don't care about this team, I want to play. Anyone who thinks Charlie Batch deserves to run this team is a bonehead. If they bench me for him I'll throw a temper tantrum that will make T.O. seem like the ultimate team player."

This is just Ben being politically correct.

:goodposting: One stat that might come as a surprise to some is that in his first two seasons Ben put up the 2 highest completion percentage seasons in Steelers history. You don't luck into those kinds of stats.Ben has made some bad decisions this season and may have come down to earth a little but he is still a very good (and very young) QB. He has also been getting walloped pretty good this year, both on and off the field.

Ben just needs to get back to simple fundamentals. If you see a guy being triple covered ,just throw it away and take the field goal ,or punt the football away and trust your defense.

Funny what happens to a QB when he has to carry a team, vs the team carrying him.

LOL yeah name me one 2-5 team that couldnt say if they had a break here and there they'd be 6-1. They are 2-5 because they earned it, period.

:goodposting: :goodposting: He said the politically correct thing to say in this situation. Shows that he's a team guy. Has NOTHING to do with his desire IMO.

There are games when every team must carry their QB. Ben Roethlisberger was the Steelers most important offensive player last season. Without him the Steelers don't make the playoffs and certainly don't make the Super Bowl.

Agree completely.

Bens is the future of this team..a SuperBowl winner. They will give him every chance at least this season and next.

I agree Ben is the future ,but you can't just throw away a season. If there is another guy on the bench ,capable of doing a better job temporarily ,then you should go with that guy.

The guy should not have been playing last week, plain and simple, and you could see in his decision making that he is still feeling the cloudiness from being knocked out. I think he is more the QB we saw in the KC-ATL game, when healthy he is a top notch QB in the NFL , people love to hate you when you are on top. I say the Steelers should let him sit out the remainder of the year and get his head straight for next year, Batch has done a good job when needed...

As for the thread title, yeah I think his luck has run out. All in all, I think he had a rather cushy year for a rook QB. I don't think he's a bad QB he's just going thru some growing pains a little later than expected.

This season is up in the air. I'd guess it's best to let him learn from his mistakes. However Cowher knows his makeup best and occasionally sitting a QB so he can regroup is the best optiion. Whatever Cowher thinks, I'll roll with

Well his health luck certainly has been awful lately. My question is, is he at or near 90% (at least) health wise? If he's not I really think he should sit until he's in better shape. Otherwise you have to keep letting him play. If he's going to be the franchise QB he'll have to work through this.

Please tell me this is :fishing: Never fundamentally sound? Your kidding, right?

Ben will be fine. The kid's been through an absolute emotional rollercoaster over the past year. He'll learn and grow because of it. Right now he's going through some growing pains, but by next year this season's problems will be forgotten.
