Bench Kareem Hunt? (1 Viewer)

-OZ-

Footballguy
Mr September and the star of the FBG contest has been underwhelming lately.

Who's still starting him? Is that due to a lack of options or because you think he'll bounce back from 4 weeks of subpar performances?

Who are you starting him over? Who are you benching him for?

Chancandrick West is out this week. More touches and opportunity for Hunt. I still have him entered in all my lineups.

I pulled him.  He is single handidly losing me games right now.  I put in Kenyan Drake for him

I've benched him, 2 RB spots - Ingram and Hyde, 2 flex - T Hill and funches (Robby Anderson and Brandin Cooks start at wr).

Going back and forth between Hunt and Hill but right now Hill is in.

West wasn't hurting Hunt, the offense, coaching, and perhaps a bit of the rookie wall are.

I went from 6-1 to 7-5 and I'm not going down with the ship. I'm starting both Lat Murray and Tevin over him and I'll live with it.

Jets last allowed a 100 yard rusher week 1.

eta - playoff schedule looks better.

Starting Freeman and Fournette over him. Debating on starting Hill in my flex over JuJu. No way I’m starting 2 Chiefs until or if they come out of their funk.

Not all true. With West our earlier this year, Hunt was in on 72% of plays, with West back, he’s only been in on about 60% lately. Plus West was getting targets in the passing game.

West being out wine suddenly make Hunt a stud again, but it isn’t going to hurt.

Name me a RB in the league that isn't being cut by someone by 12% or more. West is not the problem.

I’m starting him - in one league just playing for position as I’ve locked up my division (but want to remain the 1-seed)

in my other league fighting for a playoff spot. And I keep telling myself the Chiefs are going to wake the F up & feed the beast when they realize it’s how they won games earlier in the season. They were using him as a receiver & he excelled. He still maintains one of the highest after contact & broken tackle ratios among RBs.

They may not wake up and realize this. However, I would hate to miss the playoffs if they do so while he’s on my bench.

And I can’t shake the feeling that if I bench him that’s exactly what will happen.

I agreed he isn’t the problem. But him not being there can only help Hunt

Playing Hunt over J. Gordon and S. Diggs at the flex.

West out definitely helps Hunt... stays in on 3rd downs and 2-minute drill.

Hoping that last week was a motivational embarrassment for Andy Reid and the offense.

Does he though? Or do they use Akeem on them? I don’t think it’s a sure bet we’ll see Hunt on all 3rd downs and 2 minute drills.

I also hoped the showing against the giants was enough of an embarrassment for Reid and co.  :(

Not a Hunt owner. Last game was terrible.  3 before that were low end RB 2/3 in ppr leagues.  Before that, prior games were good/great.  I don't know if it's an overreaction but I would start him unless I had some real viable alternatives.  Hunt was not drafted as a first round rock star so the return on the investment is still quite good.  If you think he's going to digress then the option to sit him is clear. If you think that his usage will rise and production gets better then you start him. It's simple - either you have faith in him or don't but I believe he has the chance to produce solid numbers on any given week if the team utilizes him correctly.  He hasn't been the Chiefs problem but could very well be their answer.

I'm tempted to bench him, but I have to start both Kenyan Drake and Alex Collins to do it, and I just can't. Though maybe this is the situation to do it since I have viable options. Still, if I do I just know Hunt will break out of the slump and I'll regret it, so I will leave him in. Maybe if Collins didn't have that questionable tag I might be inclined to take the chance.

This is what I have been debating about doing also but haven’t been brave enough to do it yet

I just can't do it.  I lost last week by 2 points, the week before by 4, and the week before by 2 points.  I literally could have put any person on my bench in for hunt on those weeks and won

i just moved hyde into the starting lineup along side ingram. kareem benched for the first time all year in my must win game.

OC Matt Nagy will be calling the plays today for KC (per Scheffter).

Andy Reid benches himself. This will be interesting.

Benching KHunt for Jared Cook. 100% overthinking this, but looking forward to KHunt now killing me by my not playing him instead of the opposite.

This is a more interesting question now that some one else is doing the play calling.  Is he going to change it up or is this Reid saying, looks it's not my fault we stink so much, and making this guy call the same lame plays over and over again

Hoping this new playcaller leans on him. And with West out he should catch some more balls and be less game script dependent.

Still bizarre after so many years to see Reid hand off playcalling even for a week. Can't just try something different, dude? You're stumped?

From Mort:

Andy Reid giving up play-calling isn't a first. He's done it in the past on occasions with Brad Childress in Philadelphia and Doug Pederson in KC. As someone noted, the key is to see what happens after the first 15 scripted plays.

using tyreek hill there. think kareem is a better option?
Real coin toss with the new play caller, BUT... they did say that part of the decision was based on Reid feeling that he has gotten away from downfield shots.

Not sure that helps, my money is on Hunt... gut tells me both (and the Chiefs) have good days.

May not be a good decision with West inactive and now LB Darron Lee a healthy scratch.  I’m starting him with great confidence this week

We're gonna wish we'd benched him after he lets us down again this week or I should say the Chiefs O line let's us down. They've forgotten how to run block.

Amazing, the Jets have sold out so hard on stuffing Hunt that the passing game is wide open off play action.

Could see a real shootout here today.

Geez. KC is completely committed to not running the football now.  Wonder if Reid sees any correlation between that and losing?

I am not an apologist and I don't have a single share of him, which was one of my biggest regrets early in the season but obviously isn't now.

Drive 1 they ran hunt for no gain between long passes to kelce and scored a touchdown in 5 plays.

Drive 2 was one play, another long touchdown pass to kelce.

Drive 3 they didn't run him on first down, and then they got a penalty on second down and didn't run him on 2nd and 15. They did try to pass to him on third abc 15.

Drive 4 they opened up with 5 straight plays to hunt and had another.

Drive 5 Alex Smith ran for 70 yards, they ran hunt once inside the 20 and he got two yards.  Five play drive for a field goal, all Alex Smith.

Drive 6 started with 30 seconds left in the half and they ran hunt up the middle for 14 and let time expire

Drive 7 was one play, a 70 yard pass to hill

Drive 8 they ran hunt for 5, ran hunt for 4, incomplete pass for a 3 and out.

Drive 9 was a 5 play drive that started with a pass to hunt.  It ended with a bomb to hill for a touchdown.

Drive 10 they trailed by 7 and had 2:15 left in the game.

Seriously how much more should they have run hunt?

The biggest thing yesterday was the fact the Chiefs only had the ball 17 minutes compared to the Jets 43 minutes. It seemed like every time the Jets had the ball, they'd get to 3rd and short and convert when the Chiefs D was trying to get off the field leading to these time-consuming drives (or the Chiefs would take stupid penalties on third down extending a Jets drive). This played big time into his stat line as it's hard to put up numbers when you don't have the ball.

That said, it might not change next week either against Oakland if the Raiders look to employ a strategy of using Lynch to shorten the game against the Chiefs D, limiting the amount of opportunities that the Chiefs offence will have. Going to be some tough decisions for Hunt owners (myself included) next week on whether or not they have the stones to start him or bench him in the fantasy playoffs.
