Bench Peterson vs NYJ? (1 Viewer)

It's not crazy to consider sitting someone against the league's top run D, but there's just too much that can go right for Peterson to sit him.I have some pretty decent other options and I'm sticking with Peterson without question. He is too talented and gets too many carries in too many good situations, including all the goaline work. It's too easy for a Minnesota receiver to get tackled at the 1, or for the defense to force a turnover inside the 10, or for Moss get pass interfered with in the endzone, or for Peterson to break off a big run, etc.

He was dominant last year too. #2 RB behind CJ4.2, right? In all formats. He's been dominant since he joined the league IMHO.2009 Week 13 MIN vs ARI 6.5 Points2008 Week 3 MIN vs CAR 7.7 Points2008 Week 5 MIN vs NO 4.1 Points2007 Week 14 MIN vs SF 0.3 PointsI know I'm hand picking his worst games, but the point is every year he's had at least one game and looking at his schedule I think this is the week.Look at the above games. I'm sure you had better options on your bench those weeks...
You're working against yourself here. None of those teams had good run defenses. Meanwhile, Peterson has put up some great games against top run D's.Even elite players are going to have bad weeks. Trying to predict them week to week is like trying to predict kickers week to week. Peterson has shown no pattern to indicate that his bad games will come against top defenses. You could just as easily bench him this week and watch him go for 2 TDs and then put him back in your lineup next week and watch him have 14 carries for 33 yards against a mediocre defense.Over the next 3 years, Adrian Peterson will put up at least 5 stinkers. But trying to find them is playing with fire, and every time you bench him you're more likely to miss one of his 15 blowup games than one of those 5 stinkers.

I think at this point its a wait and see. But for the sake of knowing exactly what you are talking about, just tell us who you are starting over him.

It REALLY depends on who you would start besides him.

I don't see why you would sit him unless you had a very legit backup with a great matchup.

Exactly. How will you feel when you try to get cute and game it and Peterson has 150 combined yds and a td on your bench, while instead you started...who exactly would you start over him???

If it works out, then you will think you can do this again and you might get burned down the road. Just plug and play and don't worry about it. The only time I ever considered benching a stud RB like AD was back when the Ravens were shutting down every RB.

I look at this game as a close one, so AD won't ever be taken out of the game plan. Only way you get really screwed is if Favre/Chilly/Moss steal the spot light and everything is a pass.

Chilly? What does he have to do with it? This is Favre's team...

I for one say go for it.

You have put some thought into it, not just a gut.

It's FF, you are not gonna lose your job over a bad decision.

I remember back in 97 I think it was, when I had to call my lineup in to my commish and leave it on his answering machine.

I had pro bowler Herman Moore as my #1WR.

I used to buy this magazine that broke down all the stats, and Moore was going up against a stingy WAS pass D led by D Green. I called my lineup in, and left Moore on the bench. I can't even remember who I put in. I even got a call from the commish that Saturday night while I was out at a club, cause he thought I made a mistake.

Moore goes off for 2 or 3 pts, and my back up gets me I think 14pts, and I win by 1.

I felt like a genius.

So, sir, you go for it.

Life is filled with too many down moments and failures. Take a shot at something that you may be able to remember throughout your FF career as great highlight in the face of mockery amongst your peers.

I'm thinking of benching AP for Foster. I've convinced myself it is the right call, but have not yet taken him out of the lineup and may not.

yeah, when he loses with peterson blowing up on his bench he's gonna remember that, too.

ADP owner. You can never bench the guy, but I have a good feeling I will be cursing at Favre at about 11:30 for freezing out ADP in the red zone all night.

Any of you had the balls (or available RB worth starting over ADP?) to follow this fine gentleman's advice?

I didn't.

But I'm still getting a win thanks to Nick Folk & Jets D.

Code:
Yes, I am hoping this post is followed by a 4th qtr 60yd TD by ADP

I'm guessing you needed about 13 points from ADP for the win? Ouch. Tough loss, bro. You've been added to the mailing list.

Well he was average. 11.3 in .5PPR, 11.8 in PPR, and 10.8 in non-PPR. Not what you wanted from your first round draft pick, but much better than I thought he would do honestly.

So I'd call this a draw as far as the "benching" call. I was prepared to come in here and happily eat crow though.

Wish the Vikes coulda won this one. :lmao:

Yep, AP vs Hillis for me turned out to be moot. Hillis came out ahead, but by less than a point. Of course I'd have been better off with AP over Foster, but Foster really wasn't in the mix for which of the three I was going to bench.
