Bengals best trade option for QB? (1 Viewer)

This is what they did?

Huh?

We just found out there was no Plan B.

Most teams don't have a plan B when the QB goes down. Plan B really was Browning who did okay in extended duty 2 years ago.

You're not gonna get a starter - the only option that would be akin to that is cousins and he has like 37 years left on that contract which ain't gonna work.

Who else is there? A different benched QB (Wilson)? A 3rd stringer who loved Browning style hero-ball (Jameis)? Teams with a better #2 ain't parting with them generally (that is Willis and Garoppolo).

So it's Flacco for a minimal price and who has been in these drop in and start situations before, knows the division and even just beat this week's opponent.

What is the great trade you would have had them make?

I mean did they look into Winston? Russ? This just doesn't make sense to me...poor Bengals fans.
They probably wanted too much since the Bengals look desperate.
If they give away any high picks then they'll never be able to stay in the news about negotiating their contract all summer. This is a staple of their off-season program

Not sure if Flacco will make it through the season behind that O Line

He is a statue and is probably going to get pummeled every week

Would think RB and TE value might go up here as he would have to throw quick due to pressure

Can see lots of short passes to them or maybe even the WR playmakers

Someone who can get out of the pocket. I hope it works out. I'm a Bengal fan. That said, I think there were better options. The Browns traded in the division, which speaks volumes to me.

He looked washed with the Browns. What in heaven's earth do they think is possible? Is there like a secret they know we don't?

Another question: What are the plans for a backup quarterback next season? Are we keeping Browning? Will we draft a quarterback? Will we sign a quarterback in free agency?

Flacco might not make it through this season. What then? I understand injury can happen to another quarterback, but Flacco is 40. I think there is a significantly greater chance of injury to a 40-year-old quarterback than any younger quarterback. Maybe this was the best they could do. Maybe other teams were unwilling to part with their quarterbacks on their roster for a reasonable price. Signing a 40-year-old quarterback who struggles outside the pocket feels irresponsible. I at least think about signing another quarterback in free agency.

Oh, absolutely. I just saw it and immediately rued it. It wasn’t necessarily a problem-solving reaction.

Cousins would get killed back there. So won’t Flacco. It’s actually a visceral reaction to paying top dollar to WR1B. I just. The Jets have the worst team in football. what the heck do i know?

Browns traded to Bengals knowing would make them a 6-11 team instead of 3-14 and give them a worse draft pick, chess not checkers.

I enjoy moves like this from an intrigue perspective. We all assume CIN OL stinks, which is 99% likely. But what if old man Joe goes back there and delivers the ball in rhythm with quicker decision making than Burrow. Flacco is willing to throw into small windows. I think it's unlikely in this case that we question anything about Burrow's ability because he certainly seems damn good. But if Flacco gets it done, expect the questioning to begin

I think it was the best move we could expect and it shows the Bengals are at least trying things rather than just burying their head in the sand and letting Browning torpedo everything.

I think it was somewhat reasonable to think Browning was an "ok" #2 coming into this year, but he was so unbelievably bad the past few weeks that anything at all is an upgrade. They acted once that was clear. Flacco cost almost nothing and gives at least a sliver of upside to possibly go on a run once the schedule lightens up. With the way the division/AFC look, the bar to clear for sneaking in the playoffs is pretty low. Possibly, maybe probably, still a bar the Bengals can't clear without Burrow, but it's more possible today than yesterday and the cost was a late round pick.

I would expect Flacco to take fewer sacks than Burrow or Browning for sure, but also to be way less accurate than Burrow.

I think that's the hope. Joe, although physically on his last leg, has seen every type of defensive scheme ever created. With that knowledge, you'd also assume he has an idea how to attack each scheme. Browning just kinda dropped back and used his ability and reaction time. Joe will take a look presnap. Understand his two options, quickly decide if they are available or not, then dump off or throw away if they aren't there. I also have no idea if this is gonna work or not with that line.

Not surprised he is starting this week. And of the available options I think he is the only guy where doing so (with only 4 days prep) might not be a disaster.
