Bengals Homers- A question about the o-line. (1 Viewer)

From what I understand, Anderson is in fact healthy, but is listed as a back-up RT on the depth chart. It would seem to make sense to me for the Bengals to start him at RT, move Andrews to RG and play Williams at C. If they did this, they would accomplish 2 things. They would upgrade their run blocking and improve the center position. I may be off base here, but I was under the impression that the 2 best run blockers on the team are Anderson and Williams.

Please correct me if I'm missing something.

I believe this is how things will ultimately play out for the Bengals O Line
Yep. In the camp practice I saw last week, Ghiaciuc barely took a snap at center. Both Williams and Whitworth have been taking snaps at center. The issue with the move is twofold. First, though the team should be disappointed with Ghiaciuc's power in the middle, they like his mobility. Williams and Whitworth certainly have the power to control the middle, but may not have the mobility to consistently get out to the second level. However, if Ghiaciuc can't block the guys he can get to -- see Nick Barnett throughout the first quarter -- and can't get enough of an angle to control a defensive tackle without help -- see every CLE/PIT/BAL game over the past two seasons, his mobility isn't worth anything.Second, it's rumored that there's some concern that Williams may not be able to handle the line calls. I have no idea if that concern is valid or not.Anderson isn't what he once was. I think the two best run blockers right now are Williams (who rebounded nicely last year after a pretty poor 2006) and Whitworth. Andrews is inconsistent, but may end up being the best of the group by year's end. He's stupid quick and nimble for a guy his size.

Thanks for the help guys. It didn't make sense to me to see Anderson on the bench when they had such a weakness at center. I agree that he isn't what he once was, but I think he's still a pretty good plow in straight ahead blocking. I didn't give Whitworth enough credit though. If he were able to win the Center job, then Williams could float between C and G and Andrews between G and T giving Anderson some much needed rest.

They should move Williams to center NOW. I think Santucci broke his ankle last night. Cook is :goodposting: no way they waste a roster spot on him. Move Williams to start at C and they can keep Livings, or Uperesa on the roster instead.

Big Willie conceded his starting job to Andrews.. He said that he is too old to be competing for a starting job and that Andrews should be ahead of him. Granted I see what your saying because it is weird to not see Willie on the field, but Willie would be great off the bench too. I do think they should move some people over and what not too, but I don't see it happening.

I agree. Whitworth and Andrews have both passed Anderson in terms of run-blocking in my opinion. I think those two seeing more of the field will really help the running game this year.
