Bernard Berrian (1 Viewer)

I picked up Mr. Berrian in week 1, not really thinking he would do a heckuva lot - but worth a flier. He was great for the first handful of weeks, catching bombs in each game. My first reaction was that you can't sustain production that way all season...but then I started to drink the Grossman punch. His targets (6, 11, 8, 7, 10, 6) are a bit sporadic, but decent for a WW pick-up. At first, I thought I had a gamble, then I thought I had a steal...now,

What say ye, where will BB finish out the season? 700/5, 1200/7, or...?

you are right, that type of production does not last.. but berrian is a good receiver, has good play making ability and should be able to put up good wr2/3 #'s.

Being that the bulk of his numbers come from bombs, I'd say he's likely going to continue to be a sporadic producer. a 40-yard bomber is a 10-pt swing in most scoring systems.. and that's not very dependable.

Berrian is a big play, down-the-field receiver, so you're always going to get variability with a WR like that.

he's not a fluke. I think 1000 yards receiving is within reach, especially since he's got a great yds/rec avreage. Hell, he's already got 485 yards after only 7 games... I don't expect him to continue that pace, but I think 1,000 yards is a reasonable estimate of his total numbers.

You also have to consider that despite being a "deep threat" guy, he's got 51 targets, which is more than guys like Terry Glenn and even Santana Moss. So it's not like he's just gotten "lucky" and happened to catch a large percentage of the balls throw his way.

I don't know. I think he will continue to post good numbers and I plan to continue using him (I'll be starting him over Terry Glenn this week).

also, I just thought I'd mention that while I totally disagree with this, Scott Engel over at ESPN has Berrian as the 3rd best WR play for the week... kinda nuts, but whatever.

No fluke at all. He skills and great speed. I expect 1000 yards and 7-8 TD's for the season.

Watching the Miami/New England game, Miami did a decent job shutting down Dillon and Maroney. So perhaps this is a good week to play Berrian given the matchup.

Early on I don't know that teams gameplanned for the big play ability of the Bears offense. After a few weeks and watching tape I would think that teams would adjust and try to take that away (like AZ did on MNF). Football is a game of adjustments and if he's gonna be a good WR he and Grossman will need to adjust and take some of the underneath routes which will enable them to setup the big plays.

i also think that weather will become a factor real soon. wind, snow, soldier field...pretty constant. i like him, but feel i may need to re-adjust my already-adjusted expectations.

I think the fact that Chicago has jumped out to early leads and coasted has hurt Berrian's production. Up 41-0 last week, Chicago set it on cruise control and took it easier. There was no need for them to keep throwing, but it was perfect for Benson to get some work.

Berrian is very solid. Just sit tight.

i'm thinking the same thing, especially since they've got two good backs to feed the ball to.
