Best draft ever (1 Viewer)

What is the best draft you have ever been to and why? For example we drafted in a private movie theater, we drafted at Hooters, they had free beer, they had cocktail waitresses in cheerleader outfits etc. What are some of the coolest things you have ever seen at a draft party?

We had strippers once. A bit too much for me. Like, how alpha male can you get? i was waiting for my leaguemates to start throwing feces at each other.

I fly out to NYC every year, and attend a live draft in Jersey. They rent out the function room at a huge sports bar, and there's always a preseason game on TV when we draft. The league fees are steep, and include the price of the party. It is a 24 team league, but we run it as two 12 team leagues until the title game. So our draft boards are back to back, and after everyone's pick, we are wandering over to check the other draft. Offensive draft, then defensive draft, 20 rounds each. Freaking marathon.

Full buffet, these tall plastic draft beer dispensing doohickeys, and a bunch of owners with no self-control. I always buy a round of shots after the first round, puts the idea in their head. By the end, there's like 3 of us sober, and we all have incredible depth at LB and DE. :goodposting:

Nice, ya I'm thinking strippers would be too distracting. I'm probably looking to rent a private room at a sports bar if I can find one.

A friend of mine said he went to a draft that had strippers. Said he drafted the worst team ever due to the fact. He said he had a chick sitting directly across from him "staring him in the eyes" IYKWIS. Big time distraction and no one could concentrate.

Might sound lame compared to flying to Vegas and stuff, but my ex-neighborhood League is going into its 5th year and just started a tradition last year. We have a family cook-out type party around 11am. Host grills up some brats, the kiddos play outside while drafters shuffle their cheat sheets inside. We project Draft Dominator up on the widescreen and just have some drinks. It's laid back, everyone has finished eating by the time we start drafting, and the guys that light-off too many beers help entertain us with their draft picks.

i dont need anything over the top.....just hangin out with friends & family and drinking beer, eating good, and talking football all day is priceless enough for me

fantasy draft day as an adult is equal to christmas day when i was 10

I have to say, I have not had a "best draft", mostly because they are all done online. When I started playing in the late 90s, my group met at a sports bar and that was fun. I can tell you about my worst draft ever though...

We had a league that went defunct a few years ago (most of us moved into a league where we draft online now). Three guys would fly into NC to draft every year and we would hits the bars later that night. One guy was adamant (great guy BTW) that no one drink during the draft, because he was scared people would get too drunk and not want to/be able to go out later (valid point with this crew). He was one flying in from LA, so we would grant his wish. We had been drafting with a projector in a room rented from an apartment complex, but the person moved and we had to make an adjustment. A couple of the guys worked in a local hospital, and got a conference room there for a saturday at 1pm. We could not even bring food into the room! I was dead set against this...could anything be literally more "sterile", so I showed up in scrubs bottoms, with an operating mask on and a white t-shirt that said Dr. Feelgood on the back. I had to walk through the emergency admissions to get to the room and pretty much throughout the whole hospital...you should have seem the looks I got. I think some people thought I was a bargain basement stripper or something...needless to say, they got my point and the next year it was at a bar.

not sure the best but this past year I was in one of the worst ...

a league ran by a restuarant owner held the draft at his restuarant in a private room... posted all over the messageboard prior that he will have a killer spread , free booze, etc.

we get there ....... NOTHING. No food , no drinks, no soda...NOTHING.

throught the season it was even clearer this guy was a dirt bag ..horrible league.

Fortunatly I won the league and some money...

On the message board in reply to his money breakdown I posted that he could keep 5% of my winnings and put it to next years draft party since it was obvious that times were tough and I quoted his post before the season promising a great spread and drinks.

this set off everyone else finally chiming in on the ####ty draft we had and his bull#### promises...

We have our auction at my house at 8:00AM on the Saturday before the season starts and lasts until noon. We then go to a golf course (40 seconds from my house) and play a scramble golf tournament. There are 10 guys in our football league but everyone knows we have a tourney after the draft so it has evolved to a 24-32 person golf tournament. So after drinking and playing golf for 5 hours, the whole group heads back to my house where I cook burgers and dogs on the grill, people go swimming in the pool, and we keep drinking into the wee hours. The league pays for all of the food and beer at the party (I am the commissioner and take it out of the franchise fees) and it is a great day starting in the early morning hours and ending late at night....

For me and a bunch of others, it is a perfect draft day

Most of mine are online. My work league (simple redraft) is the best one I have each year though. We just go to a local bar...usually have the boss buy us some food and everyone buys their own drinks. I wish I could do live drafts for my other leagues but its just too tough to get everyone together.

That sounds pretty sweet. I'm thinking about a bbq in the early evening followed up with the draft. I like that you have your draft 1st. I found last year that everyone was cramming for the draft even though it was a beautiful Summer day in San Diego and half the league doesn't live here.

Drafting LJ in the 6th round of my local redraft the year Priest went down was sweet. I ran away with the title that year.

I'm the commish for a league that started where we all work. Over the years some of the folks have moved on to different jobs but no one has moved far enough away that we can't all get together for the draft. We started off drafting at my house but have now evolved so that we draft in the private room at a local sports bar. The room has a projector and I hook my laptop up to that. We use Fandraft to track our draft and that has been awesome.

Our draft is always at 1 pm but everyone shows up earlier to have lunch. Fandraft has a predraft slideshow that runs while we eat. Every team gets to submit a song for their team that plays while their team's slide is up If a team doesn't submit one then I pick one for them (something appropriate like "It's Raining Men"). On the team's slide I have their record for the last few seasons and playoff record. I also make up a quote about that owner and include a quote from a movie (Hangover, Wedding Crashers, Old School, Superbad, etc). The slideshow has just gotten funnier and better over the years to the point that some people look forward to that as much as the draft.

This whole thing seems to set the stage for everyone being in a great mood for the draft. The attractive waitresses and cold beer probably don't hurt.

We used Fandraft last year and it was awesome. 1 problem we had was the t.v. wasn't huge and some owners couldn't clearly see. Having it on a big projector would solve that problem. I haven't found a good private room in San Diego at a sports bar but I'll keep looking.

Local league held our inaugural draft 7 years ago in a Lambeau Field Skybox. During it we were told that it was the first fantasy football event ever held at Lambeau Field. :goodposting: In a few years we may have to go to Vegas for our 10th draft.

We have discussed Vegas but haven't gone yet. The champ gets to pick the location. I'm wondering if it would be awesome or too much.

Yes. :lmao:

Parlayed a draft into an Atlantic City weekend - had the draft with booze and full bufet at Caesar's - stayed at Borgota and finished the night with a midnight steak at Bobby Flay's - awesome!

That does sound awesome. Glad to hear someone had a great draft in AC/Vegas

My best draft ever was at a brew pub named Wallaby's. It was called Big Red Roo -- a full-bodied red beer, more malty than hoppy.

It is an early start but everyone is rearing to go at 8:00AM. The 2 toilet bowl participants from the previous year bring Dunkin Donuts boxes of Joe as well as bagels/donuts. I supply the bloody Mary's....
