Best guess on how Dillon and Maroney will shake out? (1 Viewer)

Dillon 15-17 carries per game (all goal line carries)

Maroney 10-12 carries

Faulk 3rd down/ pass catching out of back field

Dillon ends season with about 800 yds and 10 td's

Maroney ends season with about 700 yds 5 td

This makes Dillon a weak #2 or strong #3.

And Maroney is a solid #3.

Any thoughts?

Using your minimum carries figure:

Dillon: 15car * 16 games = 240 carries...with 800 yards, thats 3.3 ypc

Maroney: 10car * 16 games = 160 carries with 700 yards, thats 4.3 ypc

Both of those look low to me, especially for 15 total TDs.

dillon starts and is a decent RB2 for a few weeks. Maroney gets a handful of carries until bill can trust him.

after dillon gets banged up/injured/slows then maroney takes over some time in mid-season. roles reverse, maybe a 65/35 split for maroney.

faulk gets his "normal" work - same as prev years.

edit to say that i think the pats will run a lot more than they did last year, so there will be more carries to go around.

Dillon gets all goal line carries...true.

Maroney takes over for Dillon this year,..not true.

Maroney will soon take over for Dillon, but not this year since Dillon still has some gas left in the tank...and although there might not be much gas in the tank,....its high-octane baby.

My math says that is 25-37 carries a game and they just ain't going to happen. I would agree that Dillon gets the bulk until he gets hurt, then Maroney will take over for good.

You should recheck you math.

I think Dillon has a lot of mileage, and I don't like his age, either.

I think Dillon gives way to Maroney, but still gets some carries.

When? Not sure, but I think it may stay cloudy enough in New England to keep owners from confidently starting one or the other week in and week out.

Well.....if it was just " a matter of time " wouldn't LT2 and Alexander and LJ be "shot" too?

Math was never my strong point, I always thought that I spoke Enlish goodly like you, so that is where I put my effort and going online after drinking since noon does not help either.Exile's ,math says that is 25-39 carries a game and I don't think that is going to happen either.

I think Dillon has somewhat of a come back year this year, and gets most of the carries. Everything I seen out of N.E. says Dillon's in good shape.

You also has to consider Faulk has looked good in pre-season and is healthy,

I like Maroney, but I think the knee will set him back some early in the season (with the coach of N.E. the truth will never come out on whats wrong with knee, just count on Maroney being listed as questionable, early in the season on the weekly injury report.)

I see 31 touches per game for the RB's and see them breaking down as follows IMO:

Dillon 18

Faulk 6 Includes 3rd down, draws etc

Maroney 7 (Season average based on limited carries first 2-3 weeks)

I agree you never know about injuries, but if everything was based on football players getting hurt,(i.e. injury history) no one would be drafted in F.F.

Maroney will get the majority of the carries as soon as he is healthy. Dillon will miss almost the entire season with the same mysterious injury that bothered him last year.

Maroney looked better in preseason.

ummm..try again :bag: 17 (max guesstimate for dillon) + 12 (max guesstimate for maroney) = 29, not 37 or 39

Anybody think Dillon is going to lose his starting job?

seriously, did you read all of the responses?

It depends on how well Dillon starts the year. If he starts off with Eddie George type ypc then I think Maroney will start to get more carries, until Dillon is phased out. Then Dillon will probably take over the short yardage duties.

Did anyone actually watch Dillon play last year before he got hurt? Or this year for that matter? The only gas left in his tank is fumes.

Sadly, BB is going to run with him anyway. So they're both going to be RB 3's, unless Dillon gets hurt.

Other than scoring a lot of TD's last year, Dillon looked about done.

I see this as a Steven Davis/Deshaun Foster situation from '05.

Dillon had a partially torn tendon in his ankle for the majority of last year.

No, I don't have a link to it. I know someone who was associated with the Pats' medical office who said this.

(Dump on the source all you want.)

Spike, does your source say it's completely healed?

Interesting that Maroney is the the one with the mysterious knee injury that the coaching staff refuses to talk about.

They just traded away RB depth ... That should be a sign that it is not serious.Scratch that ... Just read a post that Maroney is OUT for this week!

Are they still associated? Anything on Maroney's knee? And I have the same question that Uruk-Hai had, is Dillon completely healed accordint to your source?

Yes, we all know Dillon got hurt. The point is, he looked like crap before he got hurt. He looks like crap now. Yes, he's still big and powerful. But he lost the speed and burst he had in '04, and he lost it before he got hurt last year.

Lawrence Maroney ruled OUT this Sunday
Uhhhhhhhhhh...NOT!

Practice notes

Some notes from today's Patriots practice, which was held outside on the lower field behind the stadium:

* Players not present included receiver Chad Jackson, inside linebacker Tedy Bruschi, offensive tackle Nick Kaczur and defensive end Ty Warren.

* Rookie tight end David Thomas wore a red, non-contact jersey.

* The media was present for stretching and one set of individual drills. On one play, rookie running back Laurence Maroney went the wrong way on a handoff attempt by quarterback Tom Brady.

* New receiver Doug Gabriel looked smooth while running through the team's four-cone drill and caught every pass, while the team's other new receiver, Jonathan Smith, had two dropped passes.

While the ESPN News ticker still states that Maroney is out for Sunday, The Boston Herald reporter has this to say:

Maroney at practice

Posted by Albert Breer at 1:20 pm

RB Laurence Maroney was back at practice today for the first time since the Redskins game. He wore a brace on his left knee and ran without a limp, though he did seem to be stretching it out quite a bit. So maybe, contradictory to the earlier report, he isn’t quite on the shelf yet.
