No shocker that Da'Quan Bowers tops the list.

His list has been consistently rated thee best in the biz.

Baldwin (at 37) is gone to KC. Amazing how so many people are overlooking this pick as insignificant. Guess he could be a steal in the mid-to-late 1st round for rookie drafts

Bowers’ knee is bone on bone. And it's got to hurt every day. This kid is damaged goods, stay away.
Well not yet.He has cartiledge damage which is by definition degenerative in natute meaning that EVENTUALLY he will have bone-on-bone wear which should spell the end of his pro career but he does have time before that happens. The catiledge damage may mean microfracture surgery which could be a one-year rehab to help stem an arthritic condition so their is immediate risk if he truly is scheduled for microfracture surgery. You would have to think that the way he fell that he probably has microfracture surgery due on his calendar which complicates things further because that is not a slam dunk so their is more risk before facing the reality that his knee will only get worse as time goes by.But you may have a Pro Bowler for three to five years so the up-side risk is pretty significant especially if you look at the other options.

Re-read your own post. With lesser talented but medically clear players still on the board, do you want to pick a guy that you have to put on the PUP list? Sounds that way from what you describe anyway. How many gifted ahtletes never have a career because they can't stay healthy? Health is a talent too.

Da'Quan was rated as the top player in this draft before the injury status was known.Every NFL team has the exact same injury information but they rank injuries differently on a number or grading scale on risk/reward.Some teams may see more reward than risk and it would make sense that a team who is close to having a SB contending team can see the upside of having a dominating DE like Bowers for a three to five year window in a year or two.

Ahh this is exactly what I was looking for, a mock of the second round to match up against Rick Gosselin's top-100.

http://content.usatoday.com/communities/thehuddle/post/2011/04/mock-2-predicting-the-second-round-of-2011-draft/1

33. New England Patriots (from Carolina Panthers) -- Brooks Reed, OLB/DE, Arizona: The Panthers had to have Armanti Edwards in the third round last year, so the Pats now own their second-rounder, the most valuable one as it turns out. We're giving them the relentless Reed to add more bite to a stagnant pass rush.

34. Buffalo Bills -- Kyle Rudolph, TE, Notre Dame: No reason to take a quarterback here who's not bound to be much better than Ryan Fitzpatrick. But Rudolph could make Fitzpatrick a much better quarterback.

35. Cincinnati Bengals -- Andy Dalton, QB, TCU: The Stripes get their insurance policy against a walkout -- which is better than a lockout -- by QB Carson Palmer.

36. Denver Broncos -- Marvin Austin, DT, North Carolina: Former Panthers coach John Fox did well with another UNC product, DE Julius Peppers, nine years ago. Austin brings the beef Denver needs up front to unleash DE Elvis Dumervil and first-round OLB Von Miller.

37. Cleveland Browns -- Da'Quan Bowers, DE, Clemson: They probably would've seriously considered him with the sixth pick (later traded) if his knee had been completely healthy. Risk or not, Bowers is too good to pass up here.

38. Arizona Cardinals -- Akeem Ayers, OLB, UCLA: They continue to improve the defense by giving new DC Ray Horton a young pass rusher.

39. Tennessee Titans -- Bruce Carter, OLB, North Carolina: He's still recovering from an ACL injury, otherwise this freakish athlete likely would've been gone 25 picks sooner.

40. Dallas Cowboys -- Allen Bailey, DE, Miami (Fla.): Replacement for free-agent DE Marcus Spears.

41. Washington Redskins -- Colin Kaepernick, QB, Nevada: He can sling it, and he can run. Kaepernick is probably the closest thing to the Mike Shanahan template for a quarterback. But would his son, OC Kyle Shanahan, prefer Arkansas' Ryan Mallett?

42. Houston Texans -- Dontay Moch, OLB, Nevada: The pass rusher new DC Wade Phillips needs for his signature 3-4 defense.

43. Minnesota Vikings -- Rahim Moore, FS, UCLA: Minnesota hasn't had a playmaker on the back line since Darren Sharper left.

44. Detroit Lions -- Ras-I Dowling, CB, Virginia: They still need help in their back seven, and a big, fast, physical corner certainly helps better combat a spread attack like Green Bay's.

45. San Francisco 49ers -- Martez Wilson, ILB, Illinois: Clearly they're not interested in a rookie quarterback. They may be want a replacement for free agent Takeo Spikes, though.

46. TRADE -- The Broncos own the pick courtesy of the Dolphins thanks to last year's deal involving WR Brandon Marshall. We say Denver deals it back to South Beach -- the Broncs could use more choices in the middle rounds -- so the Dolphins can take Arkansas QB Ryan Mallett.

47. St. Louis Rams -- Greg Little, WR, North Carolina: Big, fast, great hands ... if a bit raw since converting from tailback before the 2009 season. (Little was suspended in 2010 for accepting improper benefits from agents.) He has time to develop with young Rams QB Sam Bradford while complementing the faster Donnie Avery.

48. Oakland Raiders -- Stefen Wisniewski, C/G, Penn State: Why not? His uncle, Steve, coaches Raiders O-linemen after a 13-year (with 8 Pro Bowls) career in the Silver & Black.

49. Washington Redskins (from Jacksonville Jaguars) -- Torrey Smith, WR, Maryland: He's a great local story who would be a great addition to a wideout group that could lose Santana Moss to free agency.

50. San Diego Chargers -- Aaron Williams, DB, Texas: Put him in the slot or put him at safety, which would allow the Bolts to let Eric Weddle walk.

51. Tampa Bay Buccaneers -- Brandon Harris, CB, Miami (Fla.): Given CB Aqib Talib's mounting legal problems, adding another corner seems wise.

52. New York Giants -- Rodney Hudson, G/C, Florida State: The Giants were decimated at center in 2010. Hudson gets them younger, arguably better, and can also play guard if injured Rich Seubert isnt' ready by Week 1.

53. Indianapolis Colts -- Mikel Leshoure, RB, Illinois: Joseph Addai is a free agent, and the Colts don't tend to fancy tailbacks with deteriorating treads.

54. Philadelphia Eagles -- Jabaal Sheard, DE, Pittsburgh: They look to Western Pennsylvania to obtain added pressure on quarterbacks.

55. Kansas City Chiefs -- Ben Ijalana, T/G, Villanova: He played left tackle for the Wildcats. Whether he starts inside or out in the NFL, the Chiefs can use a versatile youngster on an older line.

56. TRADE -- The Patriots picked up this selection from the Saints in the Mark Ingram deal. Let's have them ship it to Denver, which grabs OL Orlando Franklin from Miami (Fla.) to assume Ryan Harris' role at right tackle.

57. Seattle Seahawks -- Kenrick Ellis, DT, Hampton: The massive 346-pounder will clog up the middle after dominating for the Pirates. He's got some baggage after being dismissed at South Carolina, but Pete Carroll doesn't shy from such risks.

58. Baltimore Ravens -- Jerrel Jernigan, WR, Troy: A shifty slot receiver to complement Anquan Boldin and Derrick Mason.

59. Cleveland Browns (from Atlanta Falcons) -- Randall Cobb, WR, Kentucky: He'll offer some wiggle and burst between possession types Mohamed Massaquoi and Brian Robiskie.

60. New England Patriots -- Will Rackley, G, Lehigh: Pats continue revamping their front five with RG Stephen Neal retired and LG Logan Mankins disgruntled.

61. San Diego Chargers (from New York Jets) -- Colin McCarthy, ILB, Miami (Fla.): They'll be looking for new blood to make a lot of tackles, and McCarthy will be up to the task.

62. Chicago Bears -- Stephen Paea, DT, Oregon State: Immensely strong man who set combine record for 225-pound bench press (49 reps), he'll help tie up blockers for Julius Peppers.

63. Pittsburgh Steelers -- Clint Boling, G, Georgia: They wait a little longer for secondary supplements to shore up the offensive line.

64. Green Bay Packers -- Ryan Williams, RB, Virginia Tech: Past injuries aside, he's just far too good not to invest in for a team that can afford to draft for depth.

--NATE SOLDER 17th pick = If the Pats add Brooks Reed then its a fantastic draft and from the looks of this mock it appears they can still pick up a RB in the third round.

34. Buffalo Bills -- Kyle Rudolph, TE, Notre Dame: No reason to take a quarterback here who's not bound to be much better than Ryan Fitzpatrick. But Rudolph could make Fitzpatrick a much better quarterback.

--3rd pick: Buffalo Bills - Marcell Dareus = The lone blue-chip TE from this draft, makes sense for a young QB.

35. Cincinnati Bengals -- Andy Dalton, QB, TCU: The Stripes get their insurance policy against a walkout -- which is better than a lockout -- by QB Carson Palmer.

4th pick: - A.J. Green -- Perfect fit.

2nd pick: - Von Miller -- Absolutely perfect fit.

37. Cleveland Browns -- Da'Quan Bowers, DE, Clemson: They probably would've seriously considered him with the sixth pick (later traded) if his knee had been completely healthy. Risk or not, Bowers is too good to pass up here.

DT PHIL TAYLOR 21st pick: Reward heavily outways the risk at this point in the draft.

38. Arizona Cardinals -- Akeem Ayers, OLB, UCLA: They continue to improve the defense by giving new DC Ray Horton a young pass rusher.

5th pick: - Patrick Peterson -- I love Akeem Ayers and think he is perfect for a 3-4 OLB pass rusher.

39. Tennessee Titans -- Bruce Carter, OLB, North Carolina: He's still recovering from an ACL injury, otherwise this freakish athlete likely would've been gone 25 picks sooner.

8th pick: - Jake Locker -- He is a year away but he was considered a top-ten pick so think of it like getting a top-ten LBer in next year's draft.

16th pick: - Ryan Kerrigan -- Or Mallett, either one works.

42. Houston Texans -- Dontay Moch, OLB, Nevada: The pass rusher new DC Wade Phillips needs for his signature 3-4 defense.

J.J. WATT 11th pick - Another solid pick to go with Watt.

43. Minnesota Vikings -- Rahim Moore, FS, UCLA: Minnesota hasn't had a playmaker on the back line since Darren Sharper left.

QB CHRISTIAN PONDER 12th pick: - I think Darren Sharper was taken about the same place.

44. Detroit Lions -- Ras-I Dowling, CB, Virginia: They still need help in their back seven, and a big, fast, physical corner certainly helps better combat a spread attack like Green Bay's.

13th pick: - Nick Fairley -- The Lions need DBs.

45. San Francisco 49ers -- Martez Wilson, ILB, Illinois: Clearly they're not interested in a rookie quarterback. They may be want a replacement for free agent Takeo Spikes, though.

DE ALDON SMITH 7th pick: - Big LBer and could fit.

15th pick: Miami Dolphins - Mike Pouncey -- Good projected trade and excellent pick.

DE ROBERT QUINN 14th pick: - I really love the long term potential of Greg Little, great pick.

48. Oakland Raiders -- Stefen Wisniewski, C/G, Penn State: Why not? His uncle, Steve, coaches Raiders O-linemen after a 13-year (with 8 Pro Bowls) career in the Silver & Black.

No first round selection but got DE Richard Seymour for two years. This oould wind up being the Raiders selection and its decent value.

49. Washington Redskins (from Jacksonville Jaguars) -- Torrey Smith, WR, Maryland: He's a great local story who would be a great addition to a wideout group that could lose Santana Moss to free agency.

16th pick: - Ryan Kerrigan -- Decent value and a need.

50. San Diego Chargers -- Aaron Williams, DB, Texas: Put him in the slot or put him at safety, which would allow the Bolts to let Eric Weddle walk.

18th pick: - Corey Liuget -- Seems like a fantastic value where he's going.

51. Tampa Bay Buccaneers -- Brandon Harris, CB, Miami (Fla.): Given CB Aqib Talib's mounting legal problems, adding another corner seems wise.

DE ADRIAN CLAYBORN 20th pick: - Some had him pegger higher but possibly a reach.

52. New York Giants -- Rodney Hudson, G/C, Florida State: The Giants were decimated at center in 2010. Hudson gets them younger, arguably better, and can also play guard if injured Rich Seubert isnt' ready by Week 1.

CB PRINCE AKUMARA 19th pick: - Seems like a bit of a reach here.

53. Indianapolis Colts -- Mikel Leshoure, RB, Illinois: Joseph Addai is a free agent, and the Colts don't tend to fancy tailbacks with deteriorating treads.

22nd pick: - Anthony Castonzo -- Nice value but it could easily be Ryan Williams.

54. Philadelphia Eagles -- Jabaal Sheard, DE, Pittsburgh: They look to Western Pennsylvania to obtain added pressure on quarterbacks.

OG DANNY WATKINS 23rd pick: I like Jabaal but he ssems like a reach here.

55. Kansas City Chiefs -- Ben Ijalana, T/G, Villanova: He played left tackle for the Wildcats. Whether he starts inside or out in the NFL, the Chiefs can use a versatile youngster on an older line.

WR JONATHAN BALDWIN 26th pick: He's ranked 83 on Goose's board.

56. TRADE -- The Patriots picked up this selection from the Saints in the Mark Ingram deal. Let's have them ship it to Denver, which grabs OL Orlando Franklin from Miami (Fla.) to assume Ryan Harris' role at right tackle.

2nd pick of first round: - Von Miller, 4th pick of second round Marvin Austin -- Good value here.

57. Seattle Seahawks -- Kenrick Ellis, DT, Hampton: The massive 346-pounder will clog up the middle after dominating for the Pirates. He's got some baggage after being dismissed at South Carolina, but Pete Carroll doesn't shy from such risks.

OG JAMES CARPENTER 25th pick: Many are high on Ellis, huge guy.

58. Baltimore Ravens -- Jerrel Jernigan, WR, Troy: A shifty slot receiver to complement Anquan Boldin and Derrick Mason.

CB JIMMY SMITH 27th pick: I like Jernigan but others don't.

59. Cleveland Browns (from Atlanta Falcons) -- Randall Cobb, WR, Kentucky: He'll offer some wiggle and burst between possession types Mohamed Massaquoi and Brian Robiskie.

DT PHIL TAYLOR 21st pick: Da'Quan Bowers -- Cobb is a bargain and a nice fit here.

60. New England Patriots -- Will Rackley, G, Lehigh: Pats continue revamping their front five with RG Stephen Neal retired and LG Logan Mankins disgruntled.

NATE SOLDER 17th pick: Brooks Reed -- Nice value here.

61. San Diego Chargers (from New York Jets) -- Colin McCarthy, ILB, Miami (Fla.): They'll be looking for new blood to make a lot of tackles, and McCarthy will be up to the task.

18th pick: - Corey Liuget, Aaron Williams -- McCarthy is ranked 99 on Goose's list so a poor value based on list.

62. Chicago Bears -- Stephen Paea, DT, Oregon State: Immensely strong man who set combine record for 225-pound bench press (49 reps), he'll help tie up blockers for Julius Peppers.

OT GABE CARIMI 29th pick: I like it.

63. Pittsburgh Steelers -- Clint Boling, G, Georgia: They wait a little longer for secondary supplements to shore up the offensive line.

31st pick: - Cameron Heyward -- Another pick I like.

64. Green Bay Packers -- Ryan Williams, RB, Virginia Tech: Past injuries aside, he's just far too good not to invest in for a team that can afford to draft for depth.

OT DERRICK SHERROD 32nd pick: LOVE IT!

Interesting to me is that Rudolph isn't in Gosselin's top 100 and he has 2 other TE's ahead of Rudolph. And he's near the top of the second round in 3 different mocks.

I don't think microfracture surgery is effective for cartilage damage.
It isn't, that is to deal with the arthritic condition.
Oops, actually the microfracture helps to produce something in the body that isn't cartilage but acts like cartilage so it will prolong his career. Microfracture ALSO can help an arthritic condition but in Da'Quan's case he tore cartilage and played on it which lead to his issue so he had surgery to repair the tear but now they see a degenerative condition with the cartilage which now will most likely mean microfracture surgery. The surgery has unpredictable outcomes so you never know and that basically is the risk. If it works you get a great player for three to five years.

He's there at number thirty nine.39, Kyle Rudolph TE Notre Dame

Thanks, I missed him on the list. Was bolded even. :bag:

I narrowed it down to these players, the first is how they rank on Gosselin's top-100 list. These are the guys who I think can blow up from the players remaining in the second round.22, Da'Quan Bowers DE Clemson

He played last year with the meniscus tear and lead the nation in sacks. He can play and with his injury teams typically hold off on surgery and see what the body does before diving into microfracture so its possible that Da'Quan could terrorize QBs next fall.

31, Aaron Williams CB Texas

If he's moved to FS I really like his upside.

34, Andy Dalton QB TCU -

If he did wind up going to Nati with those WRs and Gresham? He could eventually be the best pick of the draft.

36, Ryan Williams RB Virginia Tech

I think he will be productive and steady for a long time but may not be a super star.

40, Ryan Mallett QB Arkansas

My personal favorite QB from this class. I think he can pick apart defenses if he has time. I like how he can hit tight corners and how he positions the ball.

43, Greg Little WR North Carolina

I really like this kid but he's raw. I feel he can be a stud in about two years time with heavy polishing. Speed + explosive after the catch = sky high potential.

51, Mikel Leshoure RB Illinois

Possibly but I'm not sure however Lammey likes him and Gosselin has him in his top fifty so he's worth a mention depending on where he lands.
