PFT’s second round mock draft

Posted by Michael David Smith on April 24, 2020, 5:54 AM EDT

Who are the best players available after the first round of the 2020 NFL draft? Which players will hear their names called on Friday night? We’ll do our best to answer that with our second round mock draft:

33. Bengals: Kristian Fulton, CB, LSU.

34. Colts (from Washington): Marlon Davidson, DL, Auburn.

35. Lions: A.J. Epenesa, DE, Iowa.

36. Giants: Tee Higgins, WR, Clemson.

37. Patriots (from LA Chargers): Ross Blacklock, DT, TCU.

38. Panthers: Zack Baun, LB, Wisconsin.

39. Dolphins: D’Andre Swift, RB, Georgia.

40. Texans (from Arizona): Jaylon Johnson, CB, Utah.

41. Browns: Denzel Mims, WR, Baylor.

42. Jaguars: Jalen Hurts, QB, Oklahoma.

Don't forget QB Jalen Hurts and TE/WR Claypool who could both go in the 2nd round.

And amazing as it seems the NFL draft actually still has appeal of fans who are not fantasy football players so here is a great chart that grades each unit of every NFL team so you can easily see areas of need for each team to help determine who they might be interested in drafting.

Look to the right and zoom-in to see better to the chart showing individual unit-grades for every NFL team.

This should help any NFL fan interested in the entire draft going forward.

Ranking the 100 best remaining 2020 NFL Draft prospects ahead of Day 2

12. CB KRISTIAN FULTON, LSU

The tape isn't without some flaws, but you don't dominate SEC competition the way Fulton has over the past two years without some serious talent. He's plug-and-play in any scheme in the NFL.

14. T JOSH JONES, HOUSTON

Jones’ dominant senior season has pushed him all the way into the day 1 conversation. He's got the tools and performance to be a starting NFL tackle for a long time.

15. S GRANT DELPIT, LSU

Missed tackles be damned, Delpit does things in coverage no other safety in this class can match. At the very least, he can completely erase tight ends or bigger slot receivers in a man heavy defense with his length.

18. WR LAVISKA SHENAULT JR., COLORADO

Shenault has elite physical tools you cannot coach at the wide receiver position. Now he just needs to improve all the things you can coach.

19. S XAVIER MCKINNEY, ALABAMA

McKinney has the best grading profile of any safety in the class. He's a swiss-army knife perfect for a diverse role in modern defenses.

20. EDGE A.J. EPENESA, IOWA

There hasn't been a true power end prospect like Epenesa in quite some time. He won't have the burst or agility of other top prospects, but he's got an elite physical skill set for the position in his own right.

22. MICHAEL PITTMAN JR., USC

Pittman has all the traits necessary to succeed in the NFL as a bigger receiver in what's increasingly becoming a small man's game. He's sudden with his cuts and physical along his routes. That's a winning combo in the league.

23. DI JORDAN ELLIOTT, MISSOURI

Elliott may not have freakish tools, but he's more than athletic enough to be an all-around quality defensive tackle in the NFL. With how consistent he was in 2019, I'd bet on him being that sooner rather than later.

24. CB JAYLON JOHNSON, UTAH

Johnson is one of the most instinctive corners in the draft class and has the athletic skills for that to translate to the league. While he may not be a lockdown-my-side-of-the-field type of corner, he is going to be a playmaker.

25. WR TEE HIGGINS, CLEMSON

Higgins' combination of size, speed, and ball skills would put him at WR1 in a lot of previous draft classes. Pair him with a QB willing to give him chances to make plays even when covered and watch him rack up numbers.

some really great players left
The 18-32 stretch was really full of some risky boom/bust guys. I think its very possible, if not likely, that 33-46 has better players than 18-32 did.

I can't believe Austin Jackson and Isaiah Wilson went ahead of Josh Jones. Those look like the 2 worst picks of round 1 to me. Wilson moves like a boulder, I thought he was a day 3 caliber player.

Guy from PFF take >>> Mike Renner@PFF_Mike

Houston OT Josh Jones falling to the Bengals is a dream scenario I didn't think was remotely possible

worst pick >> - Mike Renner@PFF_Mike·

Damon Arnette is old (24 in September), slow (4.56), and has short arms (30”). Regardless of what you think of his tape, that is NOT the physical profile you see drafted round 1. Raiders win most surprising round 1 pick for 2nd straight season

reagor pick?  >>  Mike Renner@PFF_Mike

Picks I also really liked: The entire top-4

  • 8. Cardinals - Isaiah Simmons
  • 10. Browns - Jedrick Wills Jr.
  • 14. 49ers - Javon Kinlaw
  • 21. Eagles - Jalen Reagor

I thought it was one of the better picks. Reagor has been a favorite of mine throughout the process. I think he's a better player/fit than Jefferson would have been. I might have gone with Queen over Reagor, just due to the depth of the position, but I still like the pick.

I find my opinions often line up with Renner's. Though I didn't really like the Kinlaw pick. I thought the 49ers would have been better off taking Jeudy or Lamb, instead of settling for Aiyuk later. But, I'm really high on Jeudy and Lamb, like I think they are the 2 best/safest WR prospects since Cooper in 2015.
