How about worst triplets - the three players who led their teams statistically while simultaneously leading them into irrelevance? I'll kick it off with 6 at a glance:
Walter Andrew Brister III + Merrill Hoge + Louis Lipps (1988-1991)
...we all tolerated Hoge and Lipps, but when you look at these 4 seasons in the context of Steelers history, they are the outlier.
Jeff George + Anthony Johnson + Reggie Langhorne (1992-1993)
...with the arrival of Manning only 5 long years away.
Jim "Chris" Everett + Mario Bates + Michael Haynes (1994-1996)
...choosing the worst triplets is an art. You've got to be somewhat decent enough to be a triplet in the first place, then you have to suck pretty badly compared to all the other triplets.
Tony Banks + Lawrence Phillips + Isaac Bruce (1996-1997)
...Sorry Ike, but those two were bad enough to get you on both the best and worst lists.
Tim Rattay-Kevan Barlow-Eric Johnson (2004)
...following 23 years of Montana, Young, Garcia, Craig, Watters, Hearst, Rice & Owens, 2004 must've felt to 49er fans like they were watching reruns of Jackass. Over and over. For 16 weeks.
Joey Harrington + Kevin Jones + Roy Williams (2004-2005)
...bad enough to cost Mariucci his job mid-season.
