Best "Worst Picture" that won a Razzie? (1 Viewer)

:lmao:

I just realized something...

My 14-year-old and I have a running joke about all the movies we've seen where she read the book first and I haven't: all the Harry Potters, Hunger Games, Divergents, Maze Runners, Percy Jacksons... it's a really long list.  Meanwhile, the only two movies I could think of where I read the book first (outside of a school assignment where we read the book in class then watched the movie) were Moneyball and The Big Short.

After reading this post, I realize I have to add "Private Parts" to the list.  One of the three movies I've seen as an adult where I read the book first was the ####### Howard Stern autobiopic. :lmao:

Any time you see me try to pass myself off as an intellectual here, feel free to bring this up to knock me down a peg.  I'll have it coming and promise I won't contest it.
I'm not going to hold it against you that you didn't read some YA books.

 Appreciate it.

Tangent: what do you recommend in and around the Delmar Loop?  Going to a concert there in a couple weeks.  Make it back to STL 1-2 times a year, but haven't been to that neighborhood in almost 15 years.

What are you looking to do? Food? Drink? Type of food?

Someplace casual to eat before the show.  One member of the party doesn't eat beef but does eat poultry.  Show is at Delmar Hall.  Would prefer to park once and walk around.

Is Vintage Vinyl still fun to shop?
Vintage Vinyl is still very cool.

Check out Seoul Taco for Latin/Korean fusion. Really good.

Salt and Smoke is down there. The beans are pretty meh but the BBQ is on point. The Deviled Eggs and the pop overs are outstanding as well.

Fitz's is also fun and the food is really good.

Just realized you are going to be at the other end. Pi Pizzeria is right across the street. The pizza is soooooo good. Moonrise Hotel has an awesome rooftop bar. I haven't eaten there but the view is pretty stellar.

There's also a Mission Taco not far from there. Didn't realize they were in the Loop. I ate at their downtown location a couple times a month when I worked downtown.

Three Kings a little farther down has a great beer menu if you like the crafts. It's also a great place to sit outside and people watch.

Hudson Hawk is a freaking masterpiece

Showgirls is terrible but from an unintentional comedy factor it's ranks highly with me.  That scene where the chimps get loose is priceless.   Plus it has lots of ####

Also is Striptease the one where Burt Reynolds says "you ever cover your whole body in Vaseline" while wearing nothing but boxers and a cowboy hat and boots?   Might be his best performance ever

Thank you so much!

I apologize for the tangent.

Back to the Razzies...

"Boogie Nights" down?

never saw "Striptease", but i find it hard to imagine Reynolds being better there

he was actually really good in striptease. and that role kinda resurrected his career, IIRC... I'd think no boogie nights role without that one.

yes, i s'pose i should reserve judgment 'til i actually see the performance ... but that is highly unlikely, lest it's on Mobdro while i'm bedridden and my remote is all brokeded down - it could happen.

Cocktail isn't even that bad.  I'm a little biased towards Elizabeth Shue, though.  Very underrated and still hot today.
Cocktail is such an 80's movie.  There are more iconic 80's movies for sure, but Cocktail and Secret of My Success ooze everything that was 80's.

Without a doubt it's Freddy got fingered

Tom Green is a comedic genius too far ahead of his time.

Agreed. One of the funniest movies I've ever seen. Although I think only weirdos really enjoy this movie.

My wife hates it, and yet she was singing "Backwards Man" the other day. :bowtie:

Wild Wild West? You're kidding right? That movie is fantastic.

Also, I can acknowledge that Freddy Got Fingered is technically a bad movie but I thought it was hilarious. Rip Torn is the man.

Anyway Lange played the hell out of the Grand Dame Of Screendom that Crawford was trying to pull off at the same time she was making movies like "Who Nailed Sally's Head to the Floor?". Feud is too soapy to binge but worth checking.
"Feud" was very good with a lot of small moments that added up to something big. Sarandon calling Lange, Lucille throughout the series (which was Crawford's birth name) meaning it as an insult, and Lange reacting by not reacting was a really good piece of subtle acting.

Good point.  Cocktail is formulaic "Tom Cruise as a talented but cocky [insert occupation]" that was more forgettable than bad.  I remember sitting Stone-faced through Caddyshack 2 wondering, "who thought this would be funny?"
"Cocktail" has an underrated line: Everything ends badly, otherwise it wouldn't end.

Urban legend has it that Chyna Phillips had always wanted to be an actress first and foremost, but "Caddyshack 2" was so awful that it stalled her career before it ever got started and that was why she quit acting and joined up with the Wilson sisters.

Not sure how I missed this gem, but I'm going to find it.
Pia Zadora was one of the stranger starlets. Her press agent was always putting her on Merv Griffin and the like claiming to have a 180 IQ and/or studied with Heifetz or things like that, so it was like, "Yes, i could perhaps discuss the 11 dimensions of string theory with you or play a Brahms cello sonata, but instead, plz enjoy my wide-open beaver in my new Naked Dynasty movie".

i really had a thing for her back then ... love me some mighty mites    she was quite a fetching young lady.

addendum to her "Lonely Lady" flick - has to be the most vile title song ever foisted upon us ...10x worse than the movie  :loco:

I think they need to take in to account the filmmakers intentions.

Freddy got fingered was not intended to be a "good" movie. It's a surrealist comedy. A movie shouldn't be judged the same as other movies that were made with serious intent.

In the annals of bad cinema, Showgirls is a masterpiece. Can you spell MGM backwards?

Battlefield Earth is a close second, all man-animals agree.

The Nude Bomb even being nominated is an outrage
