These have to be the two best, right? It's so hard to pick which is better. BB is the best thing ever and had the perfect ending, while the final 10 minutes of SFU was beyond compare. I'd probably give SFU the slight edge because it's more thought-provoking and sentimental, but holy crap, both are so damn great.

I love Breaking Bad, but I thought the finale wasn't all that great, it was good for sure, but not really in the best ever conversation. To be fair, I think Breaking Bad was a better show overall, but Six Feet Under was a much better ending.

I'd expect an older crowd than I am not a part of to say M*A*S*H* had the best ending, I know my parents were very fond of it.

My vote for best ever finale is The Shield.

I know it set it up this way by asking if these were the best two, but maybe we shouldn't go too overboard discussing other series' finales in general, since there are bound to be people who are still gonna watch some of these other shows and probably don't want endings spoiled. Just a thought, since the idea of this thread was really to see which of these two specific ones we thought was better.

Before BB, MM and The Wire came along, I thought SFU was the best drama I'd ever seen. Not only a great finale, but a bold stroke of genius to kill off the main character and star of the show before the finale.

Six Feet Under as a series didn't live up to the hype for me. I disliked most of the characters. The finale though was remarkably good. The entire episode wrapped things up very nicely and the final 10 minutes was amazing.

BB was a far, far better series but if you're only looking at the finale my vote is Six Feet Under.

This. SFU wasn't all that great but amazing finale.

I think Nate was hard to like at times, pretty much because he was kind of an #####, but he had moments where his inner kindness did come out, like when he came back to work with David after the latter was having trouble adjusting following the carjacking. And the scene where they bury Nate is just soul-crushing.

And I think David was very likable. It was weird at first to see Dexter kissing guys  (I watched SFU after Dexter), but Michael C. Hall did a fantastic job playing him, and I think Hall's natural charisma helped make David that much more likable.

All in all, while all of the main characters were deeply flawed, as we all are, I found it easy to root for most of them.

The finale of bB was "ozymandius". The last two epsisodes were the towel you use to clean off your #### after a good ####.

Loved the show, but couldn't stand Brenda or any of her family.

I don't think I have seen a series finale as good as SFU, especially the final montage. Fantastic way to end a series.

It was awesome, and maybe that's because most shows just "end". Maybe they tie up immediate Plot lines but they don't give us the end of the characters we have grown to like/love. I always thought that ER would have done well to show us what happened to the main characters. But whatever.

That family was ####ed up. I did enjoy Brenda's slutty ways, almost had an airport moment like the pilot on Monday and SFU was the first thing that popped in my mind, I even asked her if she had ever seen the show as my segue to "lets find a place to f". I'm guessing we do not need spoiler tags in here, the scene in the finale montage with Brenda and her brother was hilarious. He literally bored her to death with his whining.

I stopped watching SFU - lost interest. Can someone give a little more detail about what happened in the finale that made it so great - I'm fine with spoilers as I doubt I'll never go back and watch.

I loved how they wrapped up BB and agree with Abraham on Ozymandius

I found David and Ruth both too whiny. I'll admit that many of the scenes with David and Keith made me uncomfortable. I agree that Brenda's entire family was difficult to like. Claire and Nate were both good but they were often in relationships with idiots. I did really like Maggie (George's daughter) near the end.

Almost put Brenda on Mt Rushmore. Such a great loathsome character. Though oddly, Maggie bugged me more and was arguably even more loathsome for ####### Nate while Brenda was pregnant.

I liked SFU better, but a lot of what made it great was in some of the more abstract (art show in the pyramid) and emotional moments. BB was a much tighter narrative and was like the ultimate kickass popcorn entertainment. Two different art forms really. SFU had the superior finale and I also give it the nod for how the story was wrapped up. The two best, no doubt. But from Singing for Our Lives on, especially Ecotone, is some of the heaviest stuff youll see in moving pictures. All due respect to Oxymandias.

Fwiw, I dont think it really makes sense to judge a multi-year project on it's very last episode. Showing what happens after and as a result of the climax is more important than having a great final episode. To judge on that seems a bit irrelevant to me.

Just youtube SFU final montage.

I don't think Brenda's mom in particular was supposed to be likable. She was entertaining because of the crazy #### she said, though.

I thought they did a great job of showing why Brenda and Billy were both such trainwrecks. Having parents like that will screw anyone up. When Nate and Brenda broke up near the end of S2, a great line was when Nate asked her why she screwed two guys and she yelled, "I don't know why I did it, I wish to God I knew why." She knew herself that she couldn't out of her own way.

Just youtube SFU final montage.
Thanks - just watched and that was pretty good. The shows aren't comparable to me but again I stopped watching SFU so not really fair for me to judge it.

Yeah, BB's finale was lame.
Um, no.
Uh, yeah.

Come on, bro, a ####### machine gun in the back of a car that just happens to kill all of the bad guys? Give me a ####### break. That was incredibly lame. I think the issue is that the majority of the BB nerds who overrated the series would have loved anything that was served up for the finale. Walter could have moved to South America to teach yoga and the BB nerds would have loved it.

That was just the capper. I thought the final couple episodes were great as a whole, but that final montage was an absolute perfect ending to a series.

Six Feet Under and it isn't close in my opinion when just talking about the final episode. The last episode of BB was a let down in my opinion and the whole machine gun in the trunk really was a jump the shark moment. At least they waited until the final episode to jump it though.

I agree with most of the commenters in that Six Feet Under had the better final episode. Breaking Bad is one of the best if not the best TV show ever, but the final episode was a bit of a letdown after Ozymandias

I feel like I should say SFU but honestly can't remember much of the final episode outside the final montage.

I always would have said SFU but I do think BB final ep had more memorable moments even if the machine gun was a bit out there.

Honorable mention

Wonder Years.

I have to rewatch that one.

SFU had that incedible montage, but BrBa had 90 minutes of greatness

Edge BrBa
SFU was more than just the montage. The montage was the highlight but the entire episode was very good.
I'm blanking.

What else happens that episode?
Brenda gave birth to Willow. Ruth moved in with her sister and started a dog sitting business. David moved Keith and their boys into the Funeral home. Rico started his own business. Claire moved to New York.

I think that's most of it.

Excellent point.

Exactly how I feel about Mad Men.

I was disappointed in the finale as an episode, but it in no way diminishes the greatness of the show.

the machine gun killed Walt also

Couldn't agree more to all of this, especially the bolded.

As Mr. Ected said above, Newhart was brilliant.

M*A*S*H finale was so popular, it broke the New York sewer system when it aired.

The finale of bB was "ozymandius". The last two epsisodes were the towel you use to clean off your #### after a good ####.
:lmao: Wow, that's a brutally descriptive metaphor. I disagree with you, but I love the way you said it.
I came up with a crackpot theory that Walt died in the car at the bar in New Hampshire and the final episode was his fever dream as he was dying.
