The year was 1999, and the little engine that could - my fantasy team - was looking a little overmatched come Week 13 and playoff time. But that's when a certain Panther Duo decided to take me on the ride of a lifetime. Opponents were left CRUSHED and SHOCKED. I will never forget (thinking about stuff like this because Marquis Colston and Drew Brees are conjuring up these memories)

I was just talking about Beuerlien and that run with an FF friend the other day. He won me some decent $$$$$$. If I recall it was Jefferies and TE Wesley Walls going crazy for about 6 weeks. Remembner that 5 TD week vividly!!

Muhsin Muhammad was the WR to have on the Panthers during the first 11 weeks of the season and then, out of nowhere, my main man Patrick Jeffers rode in on his horse.

As you can see, Muhsin exploded in Week 15 as well.

Patrick Jeffers won my league championship for me single-handedly. We had a weird scoring system that awarded for distance-scoring and he outdid my opponent's entire team against Pitt. Snowy game too.

that was an incredble run... i mentioned this to a friend a couple of years ago who asked me if my billy volek/drew bennett championship run at the time was the best i'd ever seen... close, but beuerlein to jeffers was the best... those guys were on fire

I remember it well. I had Beurlein, Muhammad and Jeffers that year and just strolled to the finish line with the title. It was sweet.

What a run.

I was single (more or less), I was enjoying a magical and highly unlikely run to the Fantasy Title, and I was also single (more or less).

Beachbum, I also benefitted from the Drew Bennett run (without having Volek) so it wasn't nearly as sweet.

I also remember how ridiculous this was. I drafted Jeffers the next couple years only to see his career derailed by injuries.

This was before I knew about the white WR breakout season phenomena that was subsequently dupicated by Drew Bennett among others.

The Packers and the Panthers were in a fight for a WC spot and the tie breaker was the points scored. So each team was watching the scoreboard and running up the score to try to outdo the other. The GB running back had 4 total TD's that day and Bueleign threw for 5. I put up something like 170 that week when a good week was something like 100 in that league (no PPR).

The following year we moved the SB back to week 16....

One of my first jobs had me working for Patrick Jeffers' mom. The dude graduated from my high school the year before I was a freshman. He wasn't really a monster in High School. Came on strong in college and the NFL though.

Same here. Won 6 straight games to end the season and claim the title. Without Jeffers, I probably would have just missed the playoffs.

That was him!!! I believe that 1 of the TD's was a receiving TD. It was a HUGE week. The guy I beat had Faulk and the Rams D on his team (in that league defenses scored huge - 4 pts for a turnover and 2 for a sack) and I killed him. I think that Levens and Burleign would've beaten that squad by themselves...

Week 16, 1999, I had Wesley Walls and Muhsin Muhammed and my opponent had Jeffers. Playing for the championship.

Walls and Mush combine for 7.1 . . . and Jeffers goes for 28. I lost by 7.

Fortunately, I had my own white WR weapon, Tim Dwight, who went nuts that night, giving me a great rally to win the title. It was especially sweet since my friend had knocked me off in the Super Bowl in a similar fashion a few years earlier with Barry Sanders being Barry Sanders.

Ahh, good ol' Patrick Jeffers. In my main league, I had picked him up earlier that year. He helped me get deep into the playoffs. The next year, he injured himself badly a week before we had to declare our keepers (which at the time was 3). Because of the injury, I decided to not keep Jeffers, and keep a little known WR named Torry Holt..

Jeffers wa a second rd pick the next year and was injured all the time.

Patrick Jeffers is the reason I won my total points league that year. I won by 1 pt. The guy who finished second had led the league in points from day one. I had started off slowly but picked up studs from the waiver wire and slowly but surely I climbed the standings. Looking at the standings before week 17 I was pretty sure I would come in second then Jeffers exploded that week. Sweet.

Also, don't forget Germaine Crowell (81-1,338-7), Derrick Mayes (62-829-10), Oronde Gadsden (48-803-6), James Stewart (a likely WW pick since Taylor got hurt early, and was the clear starter...931 yds, 13 TDs) and a few others.I remember one guy in my league who knew little about football picked up BOTH Marcus Robinson and Patrick Jeffers (he lost in the playoffs prior to the SB).

1999. my first year ever playing fantasy football. who knew what i was getting myself into? i just pulled the printout of my final roster from a box in the closet. brad johnson, albert connell, jacquez green, frank sanders, jimmy smith, fred taylor, kevin johnson, tim biakabutuka, antowain smith. i finished in 2nd place. the team that beat me had beurline, tony gonzales, germain crowell et al. good times.
