Beware of Kevin Jones this season... (1 Viewer)

Da Guru

Fair & Balanced
As you know I have a friend who is close to a couple of Lion assistant coaches.

I saw him at a golf outing yesterday and asked what the scoop was..he stated things were pretty quiet so far..but one thing he did say is that he was told that KJ has been pushing real hard to come back and his foot is not doing that great.

Still limping and in some pain. Take this however you want but I would not count on KJ too much this season.

I don't necessarily hear this as bad news if it's true. This says that: A) Kevin Jones has demonstrated a will to get back in the action and has worked hard.B) He isn't 100% yet and still has pain.No huge surprises here to me, for better or worse. Thanks for the latest though.

I have ZERO faith in Jones in 2007. It will be all Bell and Duckett and it will likely not be pretty.

this is common and maybe something to watch but common.Rest is one of the most important(if not the) parts of physical rehabilitation and the driven pro athletes really struggle with that. It's always possible with those types that they push themselves too hard too early. A friend of mine likes to remind me that they have some of the best trainers/physical therapists in the pros so...along those lines I'll give Jones the benefit of the doubt that he'll rest (or be watched and insisted upon resting) and be OK.I've seen a number of Marinelli quotes stating that he'll wait til Kevin's fully ready so I'm figuring the coaching staff is "on that page" too.Thank for posting Da Guru

My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who saw him pass out at 31 Flavors last night. I guess it's pretty serious.

This guy coachs 2 of the Lion assistants sons in HS sports, he goes out for drinks with them as well. The last two years he has been right on the money on everything he has told me.

That's not usually Sportsguys, Incorporated's stance on posting rumors.

Couldn't this be proven? I guess that would take some work though so count me out.

I'm not doubting the credibility of this post, but as a former Kevin Jones owner, I had to laugh out loud at the subject line. Shouldn't that be a standard warning every season with this guy?

Thanks for the info Guru, every little bit helps.

Pay no mind to snide comments from the elitist jackasses and so called 'sharks' and 'experts' that frequent this forum.

According to the Detroit News, Lions RB Kevin Jones started jogging Monday as part of his recovery from a severe injury to his left foot. He ran for 10-12 minutes on a treadmill and had no ill effects. The prognosis for his return ranges from the start of camp to missing all of the 2007 season. "

that's unnecessary IMO. After a couple years and ONLY a select small number of rumor posts I think he should have earned the right to not have to validate himself every few months. I hate it and know a few others here that it really bugs too. The initial replies make total sense but alot of us have been together(whatever ya call it) for years so there should be some stem of credibility added to certain guys' posts and not "beaten down" each time. It's a fine reply for some goof but for someone that's thoughful and respectful of NOT posting BS it's really frustrating to be in those shoes

I don't understand this post.I don't want to be contributing to a David bashing either. He's a very nice guy.

Too bad you have to have others type your thoughts out for you. Learning to read and write is standard for 8th graders these days isn't it?

Wow completely uncalled for and from a FBG no less :kicksrock:
Yes, I expected it from some guys here but this was quite suprising.Since everything this guy has told me has been dead on the last three years about I will keep posting whatever I hear from him. The guy goes to every Lion home game with tickets from these assistants. Also he does not play FF.If you like these tidbits..enjoy..if not go get an ice cream.

Dr. D: you're a good guy, so I'm not sure why you're calling out Guru on this. I don't recall specific predictions from Da Guru last year (I'm bad with details), but I remember tracking his prognostications and being surprised by his accuracy. Do I still take the latest Kevin Jones news with a grain of salt? Sure. But it also makes me a tad more interested in owning Tatum Bell......

Why do you care? If the info is right and he's given you good stuff before that was correct and you passed it on here, that lends to a good deal of credibility.

Dude, you're killin me. I thought that as soon as I read the first post.Seriosuly, he's damaged goods, but the Pre Season is on its way and that answers plenty of ?'s regarding KJ.I've seen him go as high as the 3rd round in a money draft this offseason, which is a TAD too steep a price to pay.As for Guru's post, there are some people out there that know NFL people, so could be vaild.

This is how I see it.If Kitna can keep his Interceptions down around 15 or below, he should have a monster season. I am in a league where we get -5 points for picks and this is what concerns me more than just a little bit.

Exactly..that is why I pass this stuff on. If you can get Bell late he could contribute more than expected. Although Duckett will get the goal line even if KJ makes it back. KJ was injured in a goal line pileup last season.I hope KJ has a full recovery and plays well for 16 games this year, just saying from what I was told his foot is not doing too good at this point. Given who told me this I am not counting on KJ.

To clarify, I have no problem with people posting tidbits, stories, info they picked up, or whatever they've heard. That was not the point of my Ferris Beuller comment. I just read it and that's what I thought of.

Da Guru could very well be on to something that stems deeper than what the media has reported. My apologies for making it seem like I was dissing his inside source, as that was not my intent. Please post more info if it becomes available.

I hear things from people I know too but can't say where it came from, so I know it's tough hearing things and then having people want to shoot it down when it's not getting widely reported.

As for Jones, I would be leary of drafting him with or without this news. The downside has already been outlined that he could miss a large portion of the season. My position on him would change if he were already recovered, practiving, and doing everything that he was supposed to be doing without any ill effects. We clearly are not at the point where we can point to him and say he's fine.

So again, I was not looking to comment on the information posted here and was only trying to be funny.

my bad double-d, i misinterpreted your post. main point: for those who followed his "insider knowledge" in the past, guru already proved himself. so asking to "prove it" came across as combative. would love to SEE the proof, b/c my sense is that it would validate guru's source and make this more powerful news.peace.

I have issue with some of Da Guru's posts but he follows the Lions as closely as anyone here and I'd venture to say he is more right in his observations and predictions than most involving the team. My whole point from the beginning was that he could prove his connection through past history if he wanted to.

So what are the dynasty prospects of Jones? Is he in a keep mode now, or is it a sell now before we find out worse for next year?

Culpepper was at all the camps, did all the drills and some people had "no concerns".

Clearly it's a major injury, I'm sure he'll try to get back as soon as possible, but there's simply too much risk to invest in KJ this year. I don't believe you can "read the tea leaves" and get a good feel for the situation. Culpepper looked good to go, yet clearly wasn't. And you'd think at QB, you could manage with a bad leg. At RB, unless he's 100%, he simply won't be effective.

People talked about McGahee playing in his rookie year. He even ran before the draft, and people were impressed how quickly he was recovering. Uh, no. He shut it down and that was that. In a controlled workout, anything is possible. Unless KJ is playing in a preseason game, cutting, exploding, taking hits, he's on my do not touch list.

no offense - but you can't be implying there is skill involved in predicting the future?

Dude, read the whole thread. Guru has insider knowledge from his Lions connection. That connection has proven accurate in the past (though I'm too lazy to dig up the "proof"). That's all I was saying. I was never implying that there is "skill" in predicting the future.

If he told you the Lions would suck, that was right on the money. Then again, that's true every year.

I appreciate the information, don't let a few jerks on here cause you not to give info when you have it. As a former KJ owner I really appreciate any news that may give me an edge.

There is this old joke where this little girl asked the doctor if she can play the piano again once her broken hand is healed....and you know the rest of the joke. KJ wasn't a NFL shattering RB either before injuring his leg and I'll be hardly excited drafting a could-be hasn't been RB who's only doing light jogging 6 weeks before the season starts.

Thanks for posting Guru and I think Yudkin's statement didn't mean to belittle your effort to inform us.

At some point there's value in both these guys though given your info, so I can't just totally write them off, which I find annoying - especially after T.J.'s stellar 2006 season, much of which he "graced" my roster.

I agree..I was just kidding. I suffered through having both Bells on my team last season and always playing the wrong one.
