Big Ben Underrated (1 Viewer)

I think he'll finish the year 3500/22/14
That will be tough, considering his start and the fact that he has only 14 games remaining. He won't be able to miss any more time, whether due to injury or due to the Steelers clinching early (probably unlikely). And he has a tough schedule remaining--FBG has it as the 5th toughest schedule remaining for a QB. (You guys do know that the SOS is a factor in the 250 forward, right?)He has 141 passing yards after 2 games, so he'll have to average 240 passing yards per game. Ben has reached 240 passing yards 4 times in 33 career games, including postseason games. Whether you want to attribute that to him or Cowher, it doesn't matter... this looks very unlikely. He has 0 TDs after 2 games, so he'll have to average 1.6 per game. He has had multiple passing TDs in 16 of 33 career games, including postseason games, so this looks more achievable. However, he has averaged 1.3 passing TDs per game in his career, so he'll have to pick it up. I'd say this is possible but unlikely. He has 2 interceptions after 2 games, so he'll have to average less than 1 per game. He has 30 interceptions in 33 career games, including postseason games, so this will be close. The problem here is that you have to assume Cowher opens up the offense for Ben to reach the passing yards and TDs, and with that will likely come more frequent interceptions. All in all:

One problem is Ben can't stay healthy. He basically has been out of the picture for the fantasy season thus far because of injuries. And there's no guarantee he won't just get hurt again before the season is over.

:goodposting: He's been snakebit with injuries so far. Luckily, he's a tough hombre and a quick healer or a lot of these injuries could have been worse. The knee he suffered against San Diego could easily have been a Carson Palmer injury if the angle of the hit had been a little different. The motorcycle accident - well, that could have killed him. He's actually been somewhat lucky to only have missed 7-8 games in 3 years.

Big Ben is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay overrated. He is a jumped-up caretaker. Think Trent Dilfer with a few better weapons. Just MHO.
Not sure what a jumped-up caretaker is but I doubt anyone that has watched the Steelers for the past two seasons would agree with you. Ben has got the goods...
So did Dilfer. He's won just as many Super Bowls as Ben or Brad Johnson. These are players that are in excellent situations and asked just to not muck it up.
The Ravens and Bucs won because of their defense. If the Steelers don't have Ben last year, they don't make the playoffs let alone go to the Super Bowl. Ben had two subpar games last year: against Indy and SB XL. Those must have been the only Steelers games you watched last season.
Pretty much true. I don't get to see a lot of the Steelers. I hope he does go off, I have Hines in two leagues and he's been a disappointment. Ben overthrew him last week, you have to wonder if that's on Hines or Ben though.

Well, given that he currently ranked as the 23rd best fantasy QB (the rough equivalent of David Carr), I'm assuming you (who consider him waaaaaaay overrated) classify him as what: the 30th best fantasy QB (equal to Aaron Brooks)?

or perhaps the 32nd best QB (equal to Kerry Collins)?

or perhaps you feel he is soooooo waaaaaay overrated as to fall behind some back-ups, perhaps a better fantasy option for you might be....Volek? or Todd Collins?
Wait, are we talking fantasy or real life here? 23rd best ranking is about right for fantasy.

That's the point. People can't separate the NFL with FFL. Aikman used to always go way to high in Fantasy Drafts because he was Troy Aikman and won all those SB's. In reality he was a mediocre QB at best in FFB but a first ballot HOFer in the NFL. Ben is well on his way to becoming the exact same thing.....

No, the point is that he was a top 20 QB last year despite missing 4 games and his points per game played was in the top 10. That's despite having so few attempts. Most people don't realize that. And others just ignore it.

So shines a good deed...in a weary world.

In the first practice before last week's game, Ben threw a pass to Ward and Cowher told him "Ben, that's your first completion to Hines in 6 months." I hadn't realized that...

349 passing yards, 0 passing TDs, and 5 interceptions so far...

He's not there yet. Obviously. The guy we've watched the last 2 weeks isn't the guy we've watched for 2 years.

Not sure if it's a Super Bowl letdown a result of his offseason crash and apendectomy. He was AWESOME in the 3 games leading up to the Super Bowl last year, but he sucked in that game... maybe that got into his head a little. I don't know if it's because he only had 37 preseason snaps and then had 2 weeks before his first game action.

Whatever it is, if the Steelers are going to turn this season around, he'd better turn things around soon.

He's missing guys and making poor decisions, and even when he makes the right decision his throws aren't accurate like they've been up to this point.

I think it's a little bit of all of this plus he's lost a lot of strength due to his myriad offseason problems. Add to this the fact that the Jaguars are one of the best defenses in football and the Bengals are improving as a unit but their strongest suit is creating turnovers. Starting the sesaon with those two teams on top of all the offseason problems he experienced is not a recipe for success. There's no excuse for 0-5 TD-INT ratio, but just keep in mind that he hasn't played the Raiders and the 49ers in his first two games.
