Ben Roethlisberger is an injury-prone QB. This is well-documented. He never goes a full season healthy. It wouldn't shock me at all if he been playing hurt the last few games. I wouldn't recommend drafting this guy, and if you do, you better have a quality backup on your roster.Curious as well because it's his throwing shoulder and he hasn't done crap from a fantasy standpoint the last few games.
I think Santonio Holmes being out is what's affected Ben's #s the last few games, not being hurt.Ben Roethlisberger is an injury-prone QB. This is well-documented. Are you comparing his motorcycle accident and appendectomy to a sore shoulder?Another thing to consider here is that the Steelers completely mishandled Ben Roethlisberger a year ago with respect to his injuries. They rushed him back before he was ready to play. It showed on the field, and the organization admitted to this mistake in the end. Its hard to say if they have learned from that lesson. This problem with the throwing shoulder is the first one since the concussions he suffered a year ago. Until the franchise shows me otherwise, I'd expect them to rush him back onto the field even if he isn't healthy enough to play.
"Ben Roethlisberger has a sore shoulder, which may limit him some on Wednesday,'' Tomlin said.
"I don't want to make more out of it than what it is. It is just sore."

The one thing I've noticed from Tomlin is that he has a tendency to understate injuries at his Tuesday press conferences. Maybe it is too early to know the full extent of injuries at that time but there have been several occassions where he has mentioned an injury almost in passing on a Tuesday only to have the player inactive on Sunday.I still think Ben is going to play this week as this game is huge but I would be getting nervous if he was on my FF team.Big Ben misses practice againQuarterback's right shoulder soreFriday, December 14, 2007By Paul Zeise, Pittsburgh Post-GazetteBig Ben's status for Sunday remains unclearSteelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger missed practice for the second consecutive day with what is being called a sore right shoulder. His status for the game Sunday with Jacksonville is, at least for now, a mystery.Though there are some indications Roethlisberger will play Sunday, his status likely will remain unannounced at least until today and possibly up to game time. No one in the organization was forthcoming with information yesterday.Coach Mike Tomlin, through a Steelers spokesman, said the team is monitoring the shoulder and will re-evaluate it after practice today and tomorrow before making any decisions about Sunday. Roethlisberger was not available for comment.Offensive coordinator Bruce Arians deflected all questions regarding Roethlisberger saying, "all those questions have to be to Mike [Tomlin]."If Roethlisberger is not able to play Sunday, it would be the first time he has missed a start since opening day last season against Miami when he was recovering from an emergency appendectomy. In that game, backup Charlie Batch completed 15 of 25 passes for 209 yards and three touchdowns, leading the Steelers to a 28-17 victory against the Dolphins.Batch, who has taken most of the snaps the past two days, said he is ready to step in again if needed Sunday. But he said he is fairly certain Roethlisberger will be ready to play because he is strong, physically fit and does not usually allow injuries to keep him out of action."I approach every week as if I am going to play, but, obviously, this week is a little different," Batch said. "We just have to see how it plays out as the next few days unfold. It usually comes down to Friday, that's been my experience over the years. If you don't practice on Friday, your chances of playing in the game are pretty limited."No question [Roethlisberger will try to play] and he is young, and he is a quick healer, and he has been able to play through injuries, and he has been able to prove that throughout the past couple of years. And, when he comes here tomorrow [Friday], he'll come in and see how he feels."Batch said he wasn't certain what Roethlisberger's condition was, but he said that Roethlisberger was "pretty sore" Wednesday morning. He told Batch to be ready because he wasn't sure how quickly he would be ready to play."I think [the soreness] was a result of the Patriots' game," Batch said. "When it comes to his injuries or what is wrong with him, I just can't really answer those questions for him. We will just have to see how it plays out."Although Batch is a 10-year veteran with 49 career starts, he only has started three games in his six seasons with Steelers. He has played sparingly this season, appearing in five games and throwing only five passes. Batch has not seen any action in the past five games. He said he does not think that rust will be a factor if he does have to start because he has made a career out of being ready to play despite long periods of inactivity. While he got more work than usual yesterday, Batch generally takes a lot of snaps Wednesdays to stay sharp, Arians said."[There won't be any rust], you just go out and do your thing," said Batch, 3-0 as a Steelers starter. "The thing is you just don't know when your number is going to be called. For me, if it is this week, then I have to be ready, and every week I just have to prepare the same way. You are always anxious to be out there."Other than a few tweaks based on his preference for certain plays, Batch said the game plan would not change much, regardless of who starts. He said the Steelers have been adding some things the past two days at practice but will have a final game plan in place by today. So, if Roethlisberger were to return, he would be in great shape for Sunday."Everything pretty much stays the same," Batch said. "Toward the end of the week, we'll sit down with coach Arians and talk about which plays we like and maybe some we don't like, so there may be a play or two he likes that I don't. But for the most part, it is going to be the same."

Why you wouldn't be starting Favre in a dome regardless is the real question. The weather in Pitt might not be great either. As of now I'm rolling with Warner over Ben.I've been following this and originally I wasn't concerned, but now I am. I'm lucky enough to have Farve as an alternative off the bench, so I'm rolling with him, as it now appears Big Ben's health is much more in questin than Farve's, lol.
News flash, Beej - no QB goes through 16 games "healthy" It's the ability to play through pain and stay on the field that separates the best QBs from the rest. The fact that Ben has played all 13 games, and has repeatedly proven his ability to play through pain and injury means you actually have LESS to worry about in terms of drafting a backup.Pai Mei said:Ben Roethlisberger is an injury-prone QB. Phew!!! Thanks for the report.http://postgazette.com/pg/07348/841716-66.stm
He practiced and is going to start against the Jags. No worries.
When you try to figure out why you lost, remember this post.Dammit! Just dropped him for Batch.
No kidding. Batch is terrible, and overthrows most of his receivers. Like, right over their heads. When you try to figure out why you lost, remember this post.Dammit! Just dropped him for Batch.
What good does it do anybody when he plays with pain and underperforms terribly? Answer me that? He played with an injury his rookie year in the playoffs for the 15-1 team and hurt his team because he played terribly. He played with injury last year in the first half and hurt his team because he played terribly. Why should it matter if he "starts" but sucks because he can't stay healthy? This has happened twice now in his career, common sense tells you to be wary of future problems.Evilgrin 72 said:News flash, Beej - no QB goes through 16 games "healthy" It's the ability to play through pain and stay on the field that separates the best QBs from the rest. Underperforms terribly? Based on what criteria? You said above you wouldn't be surprised if he was "playing hurt" and "hasn't done crap... the last few games." In the last 3 games since he was sacked 7 times by the Jets, he's completing 68.2% of his passes and has 4 TDs despite playing 2 of those games on a very soggy field (one of those a 3-0 MNF debacle.) He actually played well last weekend vs. NE. Seriously, other than Manning a few years back or Brady this year, who goes for 3+ TDs every week? If you consider a 4 TD/3 week stretch "underperforming terribly" then what QB in the NFL doesn't have these same periods? Even Romo has a 5 TD/ 6 INT 3 week stretch this year, and he's putting up ungodly numbers. You're ridiculous. Roethlisberger was a 8th-10th round pick this year, is 4th in the NFL among QBs in fantasy scoring, and hasn't missed a start and you're still ripping him. What good does it do anybody when he plays with pain and underperforms terribly?
