Big Trade Rumour: Jags making a big push for Tesus (1 Viewer)

If the Jags really want Tebow that badly, couldn't they pretty easily get him? I mean, if they offer the Jets their 2nd round pick in the 2013 draft, how on Earth do the Jets say no? That's almost certainly a top-35 pick. Sure, it's too high a price for Jacksonville to pay for the player, but they ink him to an 8-year deal and now they have the face of the franchise when they move the team to London. It'll be Beckham in L.A. in reverse. Right now, they'll be lucky to sell 10,000 tickets a game, with Tebow, at least there's a novelty to buoy ticket sales in the short term until they can field a competitive team.
Your math might be a little off. NFL 2012 Attendance

Jags are 21st this year and have not had a blackout since 2009. They have already announced that they do not expect any blackouts over the remaining games this year. But feel free to keep posting such quality information.
You must have missed the part where I said "when they move the team to London." RIF.
But I have been hearing for years that they are moving to Los Angeles, now it is London? It is so hard to keep up.
#1 - You don't find it strange that suddenly the Jags are going to be playing in London EVERY year?#2 - Even if you don't think they're moving to London, the statement of mine that you blasted about only selling 10k tickets a week was based on the scenario that the team would be based in London. You threw a bunch of statistics at me about ticket sales in Jacksonville, which is totally irrelevant in the context of this hypothetical. Either you didn't read or didn't understand my OP. Just admit this and move on, don't try to spin it now, it just makes you look worse.
#1 - The Jags might move to London at some point, they might not. If they do it will have nothing to do with Tim Tebow. The idea that the Jags should trade a second round pick for Tebow now so that if they someday move to London they will have a popular terrible QB to help draw fans is ridiculous.

#2 - Shad Khan is not going to move a team from a city where he is drawing 65k per game to a new city where it is only going to draw 10k fans unless he has Tebow. Just think about what you are writing.

#3 - I am not sure how I am spinning something. You wrote, "Right now, they'll be lucky to sell 10,000 tickets a game". That is the source of my confusion over your statement about the 10k per being in Jax as opposed to London. Right now and for the next few years at least the Jaguars play in Jacksonville. If you are talking about possible future attendance in London if the Jags move, 'Right now" is not a very clear way to state that opinion.

Fwiw this is why I spelled rumor with the U in the title.
I didn't pick up on that, but very nicely done sir. Bravo.

Perhaps I should have written " With the team as it stands" rather than "Right now" but I thought the point was clear.

Point being that not only will Tebow sell tickets in J'ville, but he's a "celebrity." It's a hook to get British fans in the stadium for a team that right now has virtually no players with any name recognition whatsoever, especially overseas. I mean, other than to sell tickets, why else would they want him? Do they really believe he's the QB of the future for this team?

They do not want him, at least not not as a QB. When the Jags were interested in Tebow in the off season a lot of people said that Tebow picked the Jets because the GM and head coach in Jacksonville did not want him. Actually both wanted him, but were clear that they wanted to use him in some wildcat packages and look to get him on the field in other roles. Mularkey was with Pitt during the Slash period as I am sure you recall. They also made it clear that that he was not going to be competing for the starting job. I doubt the Jags were looking to trade for him at the deadline, but if they were it would have been for a similar role on the team. Also, comparing Beckham to Tebow? Yes, both are stars that have followings well beyond their athletic careers, but Beckham was extremely productive on the pitch. I get that you are comparing their star power, but if Tebow was half as accomplished at Beckham he would still be in Denver as the starting QB instead of being traded to become a punt protector.

Finally, the Jaguars did some market research to determine the increase in ticket sales if they drafted Tim Tebow when he was coming out. The study determined that the Jaguars could expect an increase of around 2,500 season ticket sales. I think a lot of people around the country have exaggerated views of Tebow's potential to increase ticket sales in Jax. Obviously him becoming a Jaguars would be a plus with many locals, but the overall increase would not be as extreme as many seem to think.

Beckham is also much older and had been all but cast aside at the highest level of play. The Galaxy didn't bring him in and pay him all that money to make the team better (even though he surely would accomplish that) - they brought him in to make the stadium a destination. The Jags bringing in Tebow would have been a similar move, and without any star power, they would struggle to sell tickets in a country where American Football is only the 7th most popular sport. That's the only point I was making.
