Bill Wurtz - I am so confused, and maybe a little afraid (1 Viewer)

So start clicking on stuff from the reddit feed that was posted about the "tendies" kid story.  I click on this link about getting ready to have this song stick in your head.  Fully expecting to hear something I hate, I hear this Bill Wurtz guy that is some kind of innerwebs underground sensation.

Ok, I'm not proud of this, but as stupid as these are ...I kind of like them.  Kind of soothing.

Is this what happens to an almost 60-year man with too much time on his hands?  Have I lost my edge?  Is this the beginning of the end?

Okay, I'll play. I made it through a minute. It sounds like he's getting at the finite possibilities of music composition and the redundancy with which we listen to perfect pop songs. I can't comment as a music theorist, but every time I see 2+2=4 my antennae immediately go up. It's famous from Dostoyevsky and Orwell, the inevitability of math and truth.

I don't know really how to describe it very well, but La De Dah sounds like a play on the eternal truths of math and rhythm and music. It's likely meta.

I could, of course, be absolutely wrong, but there are serious, serious classes going on right now in the Ivies in their graduate music programs on how to craft a pop song. Here's one that slipped under the radar a bit for what it was trying to do meta-consciously.

Yeah, not trying to trick anybody into something.  I just saw it, liked it - even though it's some kind of weird, teen-meta thing.

Was just checking in to see if people had seen this (though I do remember only being able to get through a minute or so of the world history thing that put him on the map) and if anyone else had been lured in by the tunes.

Blues Travelers just make me think of the fat, neck beard meme guy.

Yeah, bro, I know you're not trying to trick anybody.

I hadn't seen it -- first I'd heard of it. Figured I'd check it out and when I saw that, I went, "oh, that might be what he's going for."

Blues Traveler could very well be the fat, neck beard meme guy. Funny.

Meh. I find as I get older I like a much larger cache of music. I just think when I was a young know-it-all I thought "my" music was better than the next guy.

It's kind of like BBQ and trying to argue which style is the best.

It's ALL good, man.

As long as it AIN'T country, I'm in.
