Bills Cut Larry Tripplet (1 Viewer)

Less than two years after signing defensive tackle Larry Tripplett to a five-year deal, the Bills parted ways with the veteran Friday in a surprise move. Tripplett never provided quite the consistent impact Buffalo had hoped for.

Tripplett had three years left on the contract he signed with the Bills back in the 2006 offseason. He was one of the team's first free agent signings under head coach **** Jauron.

He started all 16 games in each of his two seasons with Buffalo. Last season at the three-technique position Tripplett recorded 51 tackles, his first career interception, a fumble recovery, a forced fumble and a sack.

The move could be a precursor to another at the position.

Buffalo now has just two defensive tackles under contract in Kyle Williams and John McCargo. They also tendered a qualifying offer to restricted free agent Jason Jefferson Thursday. Corey Mace was tendered as an exclusive rights free agent.
Chris Brown is privy to a whole lot of inside info at One Bills Drive. My guess is that the Bills are pretty close to getting a deal done for Marcus Stroud. Either way, Tripplett was certainly a bust for Buffalo.

even though Triplett was a relative bust - he did start ahead of McCargowith only McCargo & Kyle Williams on the roster - why cut Triplett now before his replacement is locked up.

With $30 mil of cap space, its not like they needed to cut him now.

Bills continue to ride the treadmill to no where by voluntarily creating holes needlessly- making it impossible to increase the overall talent level of the team due because of limited resources

I sure hope there is deal for Stroud already in place. It shouldn't take an insider like Chris Brown, who I have lots of respect for, to figure that out. Otherwise it would make no sense for Tripplett to be released, bust or no bust. I actually thought Tripplett played better this year than his 1st with Buffalo. The last couple years the Bills have been spending their free agent money to improve their lines. I'm glad to see that trend continue.

Think Detroit might be interested in looking at Tripplett?

Even if they don't get Stroud it won't take much to replace Tripplet, and they can probably pay a lot less for the same production. Good cut by the Bills.

I didn't realize Triplett was a 6 mil cap hit. It might have been a professional courtesy to cut him early in the FA period? I don't know. I say Stroud is mowing on some wings at the Anchor Bar right now trying to clear some room off the table to sign the contract. Hearing a 3rd rounder to Jacksonville, no link, just a lot of speculation.
