Bills likely to trade QB Losman after season (1 Viewer)

Hey the Lions ended up getting a 6th round pick from Miami for Joey Harrington right? So Losman would probably command a similar pick. Maybe even a 5th rounder. I doubt any team gives up a 1-4 round pick for Losman.

During his 4 years in Detroit, Harrington completed 54% of his passes while averaging 5.7 yards per attempt. He had 60 TDs and 62 INTs in 58 games.During his 4 years in Buffalo, Losman has completed 59% of his passes while averaging 6.7 yards per attempt. He has 31 TDs and 29 INTs in 37 games.Harrington had basically been a starter for 4 full seasons and his career high for QB rating was 77.5. Miami only brought him in as an insurance option behind Culpepper...he wasn't expected to be the starter there and everybody knew the Lions were eventually going to release him if they weren't able to trade him. His contract was much different than Losman's since he was drafted so high so they couldn't really afford to keep him as a backup.Losman, however, has really only been a starter for 2 full seasons at this point and his QB rating last year was 84.9. He has 1 year left on his contract and it's pretty likely that whatever team trades for him will be giving him a legit chance to start and will also be expected to sign him to a contract extension. He's not getting moved for a 5th round pick or lower. It makes no sense. He's worth more to the Bills as an inexpensive but experienced backup than a 2nd day draft pick, IMO.

This is all true, but you can never underestimate a team's view of its chemistry. The Bills may very well decide that having Losman as a backup would create too many problems between players and with the fans debating Edwards v. Losman all season again. I don't think that JP is the type of guy to cause problems, but Levy and Jauron are big on lockerroom so they may just want to avoid the whole potential problem.

he could certainly force the Bills hand, but I don't think he's the type of player/person to do that.

But he's not saying Losman would do that, he's saying the people around the team(his teamates/coaches/fans) would fan the flames of debate all season long as to who SHOULD start. I've thought the same thing because if I saw Edwards play four bad games in a row I'd certainly be pushing for Losman but I'm more of a Losman fan than most admittedly. Between the two of them neither is playing well right now(I realize it is Edwards rookie season) but at least Losman has proven that he can play well in the NFL for an entire season even while not playing in the most prolific offense.

there aren't a lot of inexpensive quality backups available. if they deal Losman, they might need to trade for another backup or at least pay someone more than Losman would make. I still don't see how they can afford to move him for as late a pick as some in here are suggesting they will.
