Borat - Subsequent Moviefilm (1 Viewer)

Watched it earlier, it was decent. Several LOL moments. Kind of hard to do another true Borat movie when that character is so recognizable, but they pulled off a sequel that wasn't terrible.

Not as good as the first one for sure. Definitely a few laughs and gross out moments (the debutante ball scene  :X ) but it just kinda seems like they had the Giuliani and Pence footage and just had to find a way to build a "movie" around that.

Pretty sure the redneck QANON guys were in on the bit.  (As were a few others, obviously). Still funny though.

Obviously Rudy is an easy and worthy target, but the whole "she is 15!!!" part of the bit is pretty messed up.  The girl clearly ISN'T that young and didn't even hint at that during the lead up to the big reveal.   So I think that moment was a little disingenuous.  I absolutely dont buy that he was "tucking his shirt in". He absolutely thought it was sexy time (although I think they manipulated the audio to make it sound like he was breathing heavy) but framing him as a pedo wasn't right.

I'm pretty against all things Trump but I actually do think he was just tucking his shirt in and that whole bit didn't play well for me.

He is a master at getting people to presign their releases.  As I understand it his company pitches it as "a reality type show" about fish out of water people in the US.

I got about 1/2 way through, but it was a bit much for me last night.  I did laugh a bit, but just wasn't fully in the mood I guess.

Do people really lay flat on their back when tucking their shirt in? Is that an old man thing that i don't get yet?

Also loved the blackface Justin Trudeau moment but that definitely plays better for Canadians. Here’s a link to a story about the Borat movie reference and the scandal Trudeau’s blackface scandal caused. I foresee more apologies.

I loved that they added "blackface" to the R rating reasons.  Really spotlighted it.

watched it last night.  Some really funny moments, but his best moments are interacting with strangers.  The first one had lots of interaction tied together with a little scripted plot/acting; this new one had a lot more scripted plot to its detriment.  Good, not great.

Agree 100%.  The acted scenes between Borat and the daughter were pretty horrible.  But scenes like the State Fair and the debutante ball were amazing.

And there is no way to explain away the Giuliani scene. He went into the bedroom with her and was touching her.

P.S. The absolute best scene in the movie is when the girl at the debutante ball is disgusted with her dad for saying that Borat’s daughter was worth $500.

I found it to not be entertaining at all. I was pretty sure it wouldn't be his typical "funny" self but wasn't a fan.

I've read that the film still had a couple of weeks left in production when the world shut down, and that put gaps in the script they couldn't fill. Cohen was fixated on having the movie out before Election Day so they seemed to let scenes run on a little too long to fill up the time.

The babysitter was a wonderful person (Jeanise Jones is her name).

Just watched it. It was good but not as good as #1.

Also - the folks they interacted with were mostly nice. I mean, for example, the Q folks let him stay overnight at their house and then helped him the next day. The babysitter, the holocaust survivor - they were really good people.

I guess I was expecting a lot worse from Americans. Like in the first movie. The folks in this one - they were mostly ok. Except for Rudy, of course.

Apparently he was attacked and chased at the rally.

So was the Jewish woman in the synagogue who apparently died shortly after the filming.

Per an IMDb trivia post, Cohen apparently felt badly enough that he let her in on the joke right after the scene.

Agreed. She pulls his shirt out right before and then he’s tucking it back in. I mean otherwise he came across as a total creep and weirdo anyway.

That was fantastic but for some reason I kept loving the old guy sending the faxes - he sent and received like 10 of them and never batted an eye.

I loved the first one and thought it was genius but I’m not really in the mood to do this again. It feels like on social media we get to see these kinds of people behaving terribly everyday as is.

I fell asleep on the couch about 15 minutes in, which is normal for me on any given night.  It was meh for what I saw.  Don’t think I will rewatch.  I have never seen the original.

The first one probably was funnier, but the media blitz when it came out spoiled all of the best jokes. Sort of like Rush Hour, where all of the funniest Chris Tucker lines were right there in the trailer.

I watched this new Borat film knowing nothing about it aside from the Giuliani bit, and I really enjoyed it.

I cried when the credits rolled. Comparing the sequel to original is apples to oranges. You have to realize that it covered topical issues the entire movie. It will not stand the test of time for that reason. But by tackling important, sensitive, polarizing issues - #### that we are all waist deep in at this exact moment - it was freakin' brave, brilliant, and selfless. He didn't make it to become famous. He didn't make it as a money grab. He did it to demonstrate his artistic talent, definitely - but he also did it to shove these issues into our collective subconscious - especially those of us too stubborn to even consider these subjects from multiple viewpoints on our own (sorry for painting with a broad brush here). The movie promotes empathy. And it does what Borat has always done best, shining a light on how ridiculously closed-minded we can be when no one smarter than us is around to point it out.

In addition to creating empathy-generating social commentary, they made a freakin' movie - complete with plot, story arc, and character development - flying haphazardly and using "live-ammunition," improvisational actors (who also happened to be the writers) - all of whom didn't even know they were writing a script or acting in a movie.

Comparing the first movie to this one is fruitless. This was a brilliant, selfless piece of art by a man whose desire is to help society in probably the only way he knows how - not to mention giving us sicker, more intelligent members of society some bizarre #### to laugh at, including ourselves. Real talk bro. I definitely cried after watching that ####.

p.s. Save the Guliani #### for regurgitating on Facebook. That bit only lasted five minutes anyway, but go ahead. Or delete your stupid Facebook account. Whatever. (Again, sorry for painting with a broad brush. I don't have Facebook, but every single person I have asked about Borat 2 obviously does, so let me direct that comment at them. I'm just trying to vent frustration and enlighten some people to how poisonous that thing is - way more than trying to make any of you dudes feel bad). Peace bro.
