Braces - SureSmile vs Fastbraces (1 Viewer)

Our son needs braces and we're faced with choosing between the two types. From a monetary perspective, the Fastbraces are much cheaper - like $2300 dollars cheaper. While that would seem like the decider right there for most people, I guess I would like to know more about the differences between the two before I ultimately decide between the what's best for my son.

I was surprised at how little I found on the InterWebs comparing/contrasting the two types. What I'm looking for is why would I use one over the other.

Anyone have any experience using either types of braces on yourself or kids? What are the pro's and cons? Reviews, links, personal experience would all be helpful.

I appreciate any and all responses. Thanks!

I'm sporting Invisalign right now and I love them. It's hard to even tell they are in, and I can take them out to eat and if I have a big meeting. You just have to make sure your kid keeps them in.

Not sure if these are an option for you, but I really dig them and would have done it for my kids if I would have known about them.

I think you found so little on the Web because I've never even heard of these. They both sound gimmicky. Are you going to braces r' us?

My daughter needs braces and is asking for the ones that go behind the teeth primarily for aesthetic reasons. I've been told they're a little more expensive but achieve the same result.

Dentist--any thoughts? Anyone else?

i wouldn't do it on my kids

Are you seeing an orthodontist or general?
General Dentist. It's the orthodontist that was using the SureSmile braces technology but wants $2300 dollars more. I'm not sure that it's any better than Fastbraces because they both take about the same amount of time to fix the teeth (3 -11) months. The only differnce (at this point) that I see is that the suresmile uses 3d modeling technology which allows the doctors to view the teeth from all angles on a computer screen and a robotic arm to bend the wire for the teeth for, apparently, greater accuracy. The ortho showed us everything and all of their equipment and even modeled my sons mouth while we were there - so pretty cool but, gosh, $2300 more? I've still yet to find a valid reason why suresmile is any better than Fastbraces.

Most of the reviews and stuff I've found on both the technologies on the internet are positive. Basically, in the hands of a qualified person either technology will achieve the same result. And the reason suresmile is so much more is because the Suresmile systems are insanely expensive to buy so the ortho/dentist has to charge more because of that. So you're basically paying a technology premium, not necessarily because it's any better than Fastbraces.

We're leaning towards the Fastbraces unless I can find a reason why Suresmile would be better for my son. At this point, price is a big factor but we are also taking into consideration how we feel about each dentist and they both seemed nice, friendly, professional and my son seemed comfortable with either. I've researched both doctors and neither have any complaints with the BBB nor anywhere else I can find.

(The quotes were $5900.00 for the SureSmile and $3600.00 for the Fastbraces)

Could you unpack this a little, please?
I agree with Dentist. Lingual braces are hard to clean. Treatment may take longer. May take more adjustments.

Braces 'r' us was our 3rd choice. ;)

Fastbraces and SureSmile. I'm not sure if they are gimmicks or not. I guess that's why I asked.
i can't recommend either
Any reason why? Is it that they are too gimmicky? What do you recommend?
One does not want any Ortho done "fast". Moving teeth too fast can lead to root resorption.

I don't even know what that means.

This. Roots can melt internally when the teeth are moved too fast... it's a bad beat.

I would goto an orthodontist and ask for "regular" braces without the shtick

They were good enough for me as a kid back in the day, i guess they will be good enough for my daughters.
