Even though Quinn wasn't really tested, I think he should start in week 1. Frye and Anderson have had a huge chance to lock up the job for at least the first few weeks, and neither stepped up and took the job. Quinn at least brought some life to the offense.
Am I the only one who thinks that Frye didn't look
that bad last year???

Or maybe I can't get the backdoor cover out of my head when he led the Browns down the field against S.D. at the gun.
Frye has only three wins in 18 starts and odly holds a 2-0 mark against a certain team.

QB Frye helps Browns to first win in battle of winless teams
Oct. 1, 2006
... "This win is huge," Frye said. "I thought it was a game we were supposed to win. I thought we were a better team than Oakland. I'm glad we came out in the second half and played well."
Frye threw three touchdown passes to lead the comeback...
... Frye's third-quarter TD passes to Kellen Winslow and Joe Jurevicius helped the Browns avoid the third 0-4 start in their history. He finished 22-for-32 for 192 yards, winning for the second time in Oakland. Frye has three wins in nine starts overall. ...
FWIW I had been pimping for the Browns to get better competition over Frye for years and got pummelled on Brown's boards. Savage made a great move in getting Joe Thomas and THEN Quinn in the same draft.
I like the potential of Russell and would love to see him begin his career but his situation is not good at this time. I'm high on Daunte Culpepper though, err, if that line doesn't get him killed.
Quinn is careful with the rock. His ball doesn't typically hit the receiver in stride leaving one moron, Merril Hodge (who ripped Vince Young and said he would never be a first day let alone a first round QB last year has ripped Quinn for accuracy issues) to claim that Brady is innacurate. Hodge is wrong once again. Brady makes careful throws where if his guy can't catch it the defender won't have a play.
Russell/Quinn are totally different QB types. One GM referred to one type of QB as an athletic/leader like a horse who pulls a team. He said the other type of QB is more of a driver of the team. JaMarcus has the '
potential' to be a C-Pep type of horse/team-pulling QB whereas Quinn has more of the Drew Brees driver
potential.
Quinn with Joe Thomas and KWII/Braylon is positioned better to succeed with his supporting cast AND the unique skills he brings to the table (good decisions in protecting the football). Quinn will get a long honeymoon with frustrated Browns fans because he's a local kid who stated he wanted to play in Cleveland and he won't make the poor decisions/plays that both Frye/Aderson have made and you know what? He might just be a darn good NFL QB by the time its all said and done.
Russell is years from being positioned to succeed. Weird Al Davis drafted a kicker in the first round so who knows what will happen with the holdout? Quinn appears to have made up the slack from his holdout. I confess, I'm impressed with what he's done with the limited oppotunity he's been given.
I haven't changed the outlook of how many wins I think the Browns will have, SEVEN and you can write that down in ink, but I think its possible for Quinn to challenge to start much sooner than I ever expected. I'd like to see both play but they are two totally different types of quaterbacks, oh and right now Brady Quinn is positioned to succeed over JaMarcus Russell. You can also write that one down in ink.
