Which QB would you rather build your franchise around?Think carefully before you answer... you're on the Truth-O-Meter!
Which QB would I rather build my NFL team around? The one who is set up best to succeed. Think carefully before answering the following questions.Which NFL team surrendered the most sacks in the league last year and didn't draft a top offensive left tackle to help their line?Which NFL team did draft a top three offensive left tackle who has already won a starting job and is, so far, looking solid?Which NFL team signed the highest rated offensive free agent guard this year? Which team drafted a top three offensive left tackle four NFL seasons ago who was soo bad that he couldn't hack it as an offensive left tackle? One QB has missed his first entire NFL training camp, he has missed his first two NFL preseason games and will more than likely miss the entire preseason and possibly extend his holdout into the regular season and he is nowhere near signing or even making progress on his contract talks. Since he's missed his first training camp and preseason games that means he'll never regain those opportunities for reps with the first unit offensive team or his crucial rookie training camp. He may not be anywhere near knowing the offense let alone anywhere near ready to play if he signs. He came into the draft as an early entry junior who needed work on his mechanics and a few other aspects of his game. He unfortunately has the worst pass protecting offensive line in the league in front of him if he signs, he has no established playmaker on offense if he signs, he lacks a thousand yard rusher or a solid running game if he signs, he has a rookie head coach which means a duel learning curve if he signs, and he has arguably the worst owner in the league. The other QB has a, top young stud tight end who tied a team record for receptions in his first full season and who will be finally be freed from pass protecting duties to go out on longer double-two cover busting seem routes. The reason the stud TE will be able to go out on longer pass patterns is because his team drafted a top three stud offensive left tackle who has already won the starting job protecting the blind side and has looked solid. This rookie QB has a top three drafted wide reciever who is has had a solid camp and preseason and is healthy and ready to take the next step. He has a former league rushing champion who is a consistent if unspectacular thousand yard rusher who dropped ten lbs and is healthy and having a solid camp and preseason. This QB is going to benefit from an influx of top offensive line talent to grow with him as he develops and to protect him and to help his running game. This rookie QB is already signed and may challenge to start much sooner this year than anyone expected. I'd rather have either SIGNED on the Browns than have either on the Raiders so I'd rather have Quinn with the Browns revamped offensive line and Kellen Winslow Junior and Braylon Edwards and Jamal Lewis than an unsigned JaMarcus Russell with the worst offensive line in the league and a sketchy running game and a rookie head coach and the worst owner in the league. Russell may not ever reach agreeement with Al Davis since it appears Al would rather not pay top dollar for QB talent. Neither of us knows if either player will be successful but its not even close right now on who is better positioned to succeed. In eight months Quinn will more than likely be the starting QB for the Browns and in eight months JaMarcus Rusell could be back into the 08 draft pool.So which QB is better positioned to succeed? Don't forget, your on the Truth-O-Meter. :hot:
I give you credit for your thoughtful, detailed reply. But you never actually answered my question as it was constituted.
I give you credit for completely dodging my questions after you started a thread taking a shot at Quinn even with a winkie.

Easy, bulldog. I'll address every last one of your points as soon as you go on record as saying - WITH NO QUALIFICATIONS - that you'd rather have Brady Quinn on your team than JaMarcus Russell. These threads live on for a loooooooong time.

Why the excessive hate for Quinn? I wasnt big on him coming out but I must admit I was expecting worse.

The most impressive thing wasn't how he passed or for how far but how he managed the clock and led the team, those are the intangibles.

Who's hating? :lmao: I can only speak for myself, but I'm pretty sure we're all just having fun with the kid.I think he'll be a serviceable NFL QB. A Steve Beuerlein type. There's no ugly yellow jacket in his future, however.

Ahh is that how it works? I'll be tempted to bring this up at the appropriate time considering you started this thread but considering I don't start smak threads I don't go around rubbing people's noses it in even when its well deserved. I do like to get them on record though. So since you felt the need to take shots I'm well within rights to quid pro quo my resonse after you respond to my questions rather than the opposite way around.

Sounds about right. Have a great season, guy. :bag:

Even though Quinn wasn't really tested, I think he should start in week 1. Frye and Anderson have had a huge chance to lock up the job for at least the first few weeks, and neither stepped up and took the job. Quinn at least brought some life to the offense.

FWIW, I would much rather have Russell than Quinn.

Am I the only one who thinks that Frye didn't look that bad last year??? Or maybe I can't get the backdoor cover out of my head when he led the Browns down the field against S.D. at the gun.

Frye has only three wins in 18 starts and odly holds a 2-0 mark against a certain team. ;) http://cbs.sportsline.com/nfl/gamecenter/r...001_CLE@OAK/rss

Oakland vs. Cleveland

QB Frye helps Browns to first win in battle of winless teams

Oct. 1, 2006

... "This win is huge," Frye said. "I thought it was a game we were supposed to win. I thought we were a better team than Oakland. I'm glad we came out in the second half and played well."

Frye threw three touchdown passes to lead the comeback...

... Frye's third-quarter TD passes to Kellen Winslow and Joe Jurevicius helped the Browns avoid the third 0-4 start in their history. He finished 22-for-32 for 192 yards, winning for the second time in Oakland. Frye has three wins in nine starts overall. ...
FWIW I had been pimping for the Browns to get better competition over Frye for years and got pummelled on Brown's boards. Savage made a great move in getting Joe Thomas and THEN Quinn in the same draft.

I like the potential of Russell and would love to see him begin his career but his situation is not good at this time. I'm high on Daunte Culpepper though, err, if that line doesn't get him killed.

Quinn is careful with the rock. His ball doesn't typically hit the receiver in stride leaving one moron, Merril Hodge (who ripped Vince Young and said he would never be a first day let alone a first round QB last year has ripped Quinn for accuracy issues) to claim that Brady is innacurate. Hodge is wrong once again. Brady makes careful throws where if his guy can't catch it the defender won't have a play.

Russell/Quinn are totally different QB types. One GM referred to one type of QB as an athletic/leader like a horse who pulls a team. He said the other type of QB is more of a driver of the team. JaMarcus has the 'potential' to be a C-Pep type of horse/team-pulling QB whereas Quinn has more of the Drew Brees driver potential.

Quinn with Joe Thomas and KWII/Braylon is positioned better to succeed with his supporting cast AND the unique skills he brings to the table (good decisions in protecting the football). Quinn will get a long honeymoon with frustrated Browns fans because he's a local kid who stated he wanted to play in Cleveland and he won't make the poor decisions/plays that both Frye/Aderson have made and you know what? He might just be a darn good NFL QB by the time its all said and done.

Russell is years from being positioned to succeed. Weird Al Davis drafted a kicker in the first round so who knows what will happen with the holdout? Quinn appears to have made up the slack from his holdout. I confess, I'm impressed with what he's done with the limited oppotunity he's been given.

I haven't changed the outlook of how many wins I think the Browns will have, SEVEN and you can write that down in ink, but I think its possible for Quinn to challenge to start much sooner than I ever expected. I'd like to see both play but they are two totally different types of quaterbacks, oh and right now Brady Quinn is positioned to succeed over JaMarcus Russell. You can also write that one down in ink.

I'll go on record:

Brady Quinn:JaMarcus Russell::Peyton Manning:Ryan Leaf

Not really saying Quinn is Manning, more saying I think Russell will be a bust.

(For background, I thought Leaf had bust written all over him and Eli Mannning would be a second or third rounder with a different last name.)

Feel free to save this for five years and throw it back at me if I'm wrong, I'll have no problem admitting it.
