ANALYSIS

Positives: Has a wide body frame with a thick chest, broad shoulders, long and muscular arms, large hands, big bubble and thick legs … For a player his size, he has very quick feet and agility, showing ease of movement and excellent balance and agility weaving through traffic … Has the body control to change direction going through the rush lanes and can cut back quickly when the holes are filled … Power-oriented runner who can move the chains and defenders taking the ball up the gut … Has the strength to break arm tackles … Not really a breakaway threat, but has enough of a short area burst to gain yardage bouncing to the outside … Gets through the holes quickly for a player his size … Does a good job of securing and protecting the ball before running … Not used much as a receiver, but in limited chances, he showed an adequate feel for coverage and the ability to settle in the zone … Catches with hands extended from the frame … Aggressive run blocker with the foot speed to mirror and will not hesitate to step up and take on blitzers … Runs hard and keeps his balance on the move … Has above-average run vision and field awareness … Has enough knee bend and hip weave to set up and slip past defenders … Does a very good job of squaring his shoulders once he gets into the open.

Negatives: Needs to stay very low in his pads because at his size, he can be pushed back through the rush lanes if he is too erect in his stance (lacks good body lean) … More of a one-speed runner who gets off the snap slowly and needs room in order to build up his acceleration … Does not have the lateral agility to shake off or elude defenders … Lacks a second gear, relying more on his power to break tackles in order to gain yardage in the open … Good run blocker, but takes poor angles and lacks pop when trying to face up to the edge rushers … Has good hands, but is an unpolished route runner who lacks the quick twitch agility to elude … Takes soft angles to the ball and does not have the foot speed to be used in a vertical passing game … Diagnosed with a learning disability and struggles in school … Takes several reps to digest the playbook … Because of his size, he can be tripped up by leg tackles.

Nice job with the lyrics. 2nd in reading the above information I would say his negatives aren't good at all. His positives don't sound good enough to put him as a 20-25 carry a game RB in the NFL.

From a dynasty perspective it looks like he is a goaline back and that's about it. Not enough speed or elusiveness to be an every down guy.

I know I'm in the minority but IMO this guy was drafted to be considered part of the future at RB for this team. He can handle a big hit and did have 7 TD's last season. So there was some trust in the rookie to get it done down close. GL back could very well be the place for him but I'm thinking this guy could be a bruiser RB who gets better over the course of a game. Tiki had all the touches last year so it's hard to say what he could do with more carries. Ward is a wild card. Either way Tiki has a future in broadcasting be it with ESPN, NFL Network or another big name gig.

I am a Giants fan, and from the few carries that I saw last season he is not that good. He is tentative and can't hit the hole. I think Ron Dayne is a better back, so that should tell you all you need to know about Jacobs.

I'm a biased Tiki and Jacobs dynasty ownerand plan to draft Jacobs late in my keeper league as a bye week fill in.

I believe that they will give Jacobs a bit more this year to see if he has what it takes. May just be some more reps in practice or could be a series or two in games. They need to know where they stand with their future at RB.

I think he will be the man in a few years.

I'm very confident he will never be an every down back. The Giants struggled alot on goal line and short yardage situations in 2004, then they drafted Jacobs (a tank) and gave him touches on pretty much only short yardage and goal line type situations. Other Defenses knew they were running it when he came in...

It seems clear to me he was drafted to fix the short yardage woes...not to be the feature runner of the future..

Also worth noting, he's one dimensional as hell. He's a big guy, and thats about the extent of it. Not fast, no real wiggle or elusiveness....

I used to feel like you guys and had a good(albeit barb filled) debate with PB months ago. Basically the guy rocked on half the field getting 6+ yards per carry and the other half he was pretty sad IIRC averaging 2+ YPC. That's a big difference. Derrick Ward, conversely, did well where Jacobs didn't. Ward wasn't "supposed to" be much for the Giants and IMO Jacobs let them(their draft expectations) down as Ward ran for a little more yards.

I'm not a big YPC guy at all but how does 6 not grab ya from a bruising type?

Tiki(on the radio) gave a real good explanation of him simply being a rookie and learning. He also brought up the rookie "wall" and that he thinks Jacobs will be more even keeled in 06.

I'm pretty sure in another interview at Giants.com or BBWC he said about the exact same thing.

I thought-well ya know he does have a point. Alot of RBs can't do spot duty so well right away and that's an adjustment. He did do well in parts of the field and that does appear to be a rookie learning, his TD #s were pretty special for a part time player.......alright, maybe I'll grab him he's going real late anyhow.

So...back at you guys-do you think he stinks still or can ya blow any of it off to rookie struggles?

Not a good future investment. He's too big to be an every down guy. He's Thunder people. They'll look for Lightning in the first round of the '07 draft.

Brandon Jacobs just isn't feature back material. He's a good runner to mix it up every once in a while in short yardage situations but that's about it.

If there is a RB on the Giants roster presently with a chance to take over the feature role it's Derrick Ward.

Can he be the guy going forward or do the Giants need to fill the spot next year in free agency or the draft.?
for what it is worthI traded him to the Barber owner for B. Jones in one of my dynasty leagues.

After game 1 last year, it looked like he was the next Jerome Bettis. Games 2-16 he looked like the next Ron Dayne.

I remember watching Jacobs during the NFL combine a year before last. He has horrible balance. If I remember correctly he fell once or twice during the cone drills. He does have good size/speed, and has the ability to go for long runs. However, I can't see him being a consistent feature back. In my mock drafts, I'll have the Giants drafting a RB either in the first or second round.

Interesting.

After Bush takes completely over....

Duece to the Big Apple?

Pure speculation on my part. I do fully expect McAllister to be in a different uniform next season though.
