I'm just curious about Marshall. I haven't gotten a chance to see him play aside from last night (solid performance with some good RAC abilities) and therefore was curious about how other people perceive him. Who would you compare him to in the game today? Does this kid have the potential to be a legitimate #1 receiver with some time and maturation? I would appreciate any feedback.

I would say a slower Plaxico Burress who does not catch the ball as well.

huh? I would say a faster Plax with much much better hands.

After checking his stats (yes I do watch him play. I actually have him in one league.) I might have responded a little hastily. Let us say a Plaxico Burress who does not score as much. I assumed he was slower because Plax seems to get open deep more often but they both drop passes almost equally.

Thanks for the info guys. I like the kid a lot, but I'm wondering how you think he stacks up in terms of talent compared to some other young guys like Cotchery, James Jones, Jennings, Mark Clayton, Reggie Brown, and Dwayne Bowe. Also, does Walker affect his value in the long run?

I think he is very possibly the best RAC WR in the game today... the guy is so difficult to bring down.

He may have had the most impressive -3 yard run I've ever seen on that broken trick play.

The TD thing has worried me also, but it seems that is a problem that the entire team is dealing with and not just Marshall. Neither the running game nor the passing game seems to be able to take it in for six.

Marshall has good speed, great size, above average hands, is terrific after catch and he's tough as a whip. He will also be a terrific redzone threat soon enough. How fast he develops will depend a lot on Cutler's learning curve. Cutler shows flashes but he still is raw too. The TD's will come, but I dont think we can count on too many more this year. However, in his defense, he has broken a few this year in which he was stopped barely at the goalline.Oh ya, about Plaxico. I consider him to be more elusive than fast. He sure does have a knack for getting open though.

The red zone play calling in general has been pretty poor and execution has been just as bad. I expect Marshall to start hitting pay dirt far more regularly as this young offense continues to gel. He is a very imposing target and has proven that he can catch jump balls easily over smaller corners. He has also shown terrific footwork along the sidelines and in the endzone--one play in particular comes to mind from earlier in the season where he did a phenomenal job of getting both feet down as he was twisting and falling out of bounds. It was very Moss-esque. Furthermore, I think that his RAC skills will start leading to more scores. He has come close a few times already with sick runs and he had one called back earlier in the season. He has also been targeted numerous times on deep balls but its usually on plays where Cutler is trying to force the ball into double coverage--I think this is the area where Javon's absence is hurting him the most. When Javon comes back he should face more single coverage and I think we'll see that translate into more long gains.

I think Marshall is better than all of those you listed. He might not hit for better fantasy stats than some of those this year but he has more potential. I love Bowe too, but i am not real high on him this year seeing as though he is a similiar position to Marshall.I think Walker being out has and will continue to hurt Marshall in the short term. He needs the experience and dependability of a proven veteran to take the heat off. His ability to run good routes is being hampered by the opposing teams number 1 cover, who usually makes things a little more difficult. But then again, I could be completely wrong. Some guys flourish with the early opportunity as a #1. Marshall seems to be holding his own so far....

I think the previous posters have made a great assessment of his football skills. If you are considering drafting him next year you might want to take his legal issues into consideration. The DUI this season begs the question of where Marshall is in the nfl program for substances of abuse: http://www.nflpa.org/pdfs/rulesandregs/Drug_Policy_2007.pdf Wikipedia has a great consolidation of Marshall's legal history: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brandon_Marshall

Legal trouble

Marshall has had a couple of anger management-related issues and incidents arising from such. On March 26, 2007, he was arrested in the Highlands Ranch suburb of Denver on suspicion of domestic violence after his girlfriend reported that following a domestic dispute, Marshall prevented a taxi she was in from leaving his house.[8] Charges from the incident were later dismissed on May 25, 2007 after Marshall completed anger management counseling.[9]

Marshall also experienced legal run-ins while a student at UCF. According to Orlando-Orange County public records (case 48-2004-MM-012392-O), on Halloween of 2004, Marshall was arrested in Orlando on charges of assault on a law enforcement officer, refusal to obey, disorderly conduct, and resisting an officer.[1]

In the early morning of October 22nd, 2007, Marshall was arrested in the Denver Metro area at the intersection of 14th St. and Blake St. for driving under the influence of alcohol.[10]

In addition to these incidents, if you saw the Realsports with Bryant Gumbel on HBO story about Javon Walker following Darrent Williams' untimely death, Marshall's altercation with local Denver thugs basically lead to the gunshots killing Williams death.

Just trying to help you get all the info about the guy. They didn't stop me from drafting him this year, but IMO the potential DUI is something to watch.

Drafted him in a dynasty league his rookie year. Since then when I have seen him play he reminds me of Hines Ward in that he will make the tough catch,is hard to tackle and will block down field. The baby TO seems appropriate plus blocking.

I think he is Javon Walker, just dumber and with more of a propensity for legal trouble. If his head comes around the sky, and injuries, are the limit.
