Major Wright hasn't looked that great in pre-season. I think it's only a matter of time before Meriweather starts ahead of him.

When this happens, do you think Meriweather stays at FS or is moved to SS since Harris played mostly FS last year?

What's Meriweather's upside in this scheme which uses a lot of Cover-2 variants?

Is he the CHI safety to roster here?

Brandon Meriweather, cut by New England, goes to Chicago to compete for snaps. He won’t be given a starting job, but it’s not exactly a vote of confidence for Major Wright (or Chris Harris). None of the Bears’ safeties are likely to be strong options early in the season and none of the three have a profile that suggests big tackle numbers for a Cover-2 safety.

I don't think any of the three read run-pass well enough and have the suddenness to support the run consistently from 12 yards (or more) off the LOS and beat Urlacher/Briggs/Tillman to the ball. Harris could at one point, Meriweather showed flashes (but was an inconsistent tackler), too. If they rotate, as expected, it'll be hard to peg any of them as the most likely matchup DB3.
