Breakout RBs (1 Viewer)

I actually thought that Morency may hold off Jackson and have a good year in GB. Then he got hurt. I know he'll only miss 2-3 weeks, but I don't think that'll help his cause in earning the job.

Which team has a very good/great offensive line? Benson comes to mind...I'm sure there are other rb's that aren't getting much love but will be great values.

MJD last year: waiver wire pickupBenson this year: 2nd round pickMJD != Benson :wall:
If you want to know which rb will be available on the waiver wire only to break into the top ten I'll tell you right now: none. That's a very rare event...I was operating under the assumption the OP was looking for extreme value. If you want guys that are in the exact same situation as MJD last year I'd say stock up on backups and pray for an injury.

"none" is a perfectly valid reply. He did ask for 'under the radar' guys, so I don't think he was referring to 2nd rounders. There are probably at least a few backup RBs that could shine such as DeDe Dorsey who was mentioned. I cant think of any off the top of my head but I'll try.

I'd go with Leon Washington in New York. Thomas Jones was a great acquisition and fits that offense very well, but he's not exactly a spring chicken -- he'll be 29 this month and has played 16 games only twice in the last five seasons. Washington is a solid player, and if anything happened to Jones he'd be the guy.I'd also keep an eye on Kenneth Darby with Tampa Bay -- he could take on some of Michael Pittman's third-down duties. But he'd be much more of a long shot.

I like Adrian Peterson. Here is a guy who will likely not be drafted or will be drafted very late. I have always liked the way Peterson has played when given opportunities. If Benson gets hurt or struggles, then I think Peterson could have a strong season- maybe more similar to Ladell Betts then MJD.

In my original post, I was looking for more of the lesser known guys (outside of top 40 RBs perhaps), that could eventually have an impact (spot starter, bye week fill-in, etc.). I used MJD as an example, but obviously he is the extreme and I am realistic. I'm in a very RB focused league and am looking to gain an edge. Incidentally, MJD was drafted by a savvy owner in my league last year and I'm trying to gain similar insight on some other players to potentially exploit at our draft.

I totally agree with the Peterson (Chicago) example. Last season the top 3 Bears RBs had 464 carries for 1893 yards and 14 TDs. If Peterson can get 30-35% of that workload, that's around 90 fantasy points, closer to RB40 than RB55 (his current ADP). And if Benson gets hurt or in the dog house, it could be way better.

Any other names come to mind?

If your looking for guy's that fit the Dom Davis/MJDrew mold for this season .. how about Jerome Harrison (3rd down back) in Cleveland ... behind ex-uber stud JLew & Jason Wright.. he could be someone worth a flyer!

:football:

people that aren't getting drafted, or if they are, very late:

Davenport (PIT)

Washington (NYJ)

Hicks (SF)

Duckett (DET)

just basing on previously seeing them in action, they all have their talents and might get opportunity to play. of the group, i think if davenport sees playing time, he'll make the most difference on a roster.

Ronnie B. Top 6 this year, mark it down.
I tend to agree about Brown. Used to dislike him, no wI think he's got a shot at 1400/12tds, and 70 receptions.Betts will be a top 10 guy in 2007, Portis knee is acting up, again. He won't make it a full 16-game schedule without injury.Michael Turner is the best player in fantasy football if LT goes down. Even if not, he's likely to see a significant increase in work this season.Edge will have a mini-revival this season.Sammy Morris might become a top 15 RB if/when Morency goes down. That shoulder looks like its still bothering him.Travis HenrySF's #2 RB, Gore won't last without missing a significant amount of time this season.he's already out 4 weeks with a broken hand.I'm going to add Adrian Peterson, Bears #2..I don't believe Benson can hold the starting job , nor do I believe he can stay healthy.

nice thought. he will get a shot at some point. he will work his way in. he may be starter in cleve soon enuf.

Here's a couple not mentioned:

Chester Taylor: ADP is going to let one too many LB clobber the QB and ChesterT will resume his normal duties

Reuben Droughns: I am not a believer in Brandon Jacobs as a starter.

I believe that when (when, not if) Benson gets hurt Peterson will become a fantasy superstar for the '07 season that people will talk about for years a la Patrick Jeffers.

I'm surprised not to see Kolby Smith mentioned yet. Although I don't think LJ will hold out in 2007, he's in a good situation. Kolby usually goes undrafted in 15-round mocks.
