MYERS PLACED ON DISABLED LIST, HOWARD ACTIVATED Righthander Brett Myers was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a right shoulder strain, the Phillies announced today. The move is backdated to May 24. To take his place on the 25-man roster, the team purchased the contract of lefthander Mike Zagurski from double-A Reading. First baseman Ryan Howard was activated from the 15-day disabled list today. Howard had a left quadriceps strain and completed a two-game rehabilitation assignment to single-A Lakewood, where he hit .333 (2-6) with a double, home run, 4 RBI and two walks. He served as the designated hitter in one game and played first base in the other. To make room for him on the roster, catcher/infielder Chris Coste was optioned to Reading. For the 26-year-old Myers, this is his first trip to the disabled list in his major league career. He was removed from Wednesday’s game at Dolphin Stadium after throwing a wild pitch and had an MRI yesterday at the Phillies’ medical facilities in Clearwater, Fla. Myers was the club’s Opening Day starter, but was moved to the bullpen after three appearances. As a reliever, Myers was 1-0 with six saves and a 2.61 ERA in 18 appearances. He had 32 strikeouts in 20.2 innings and led all National League relievers in strikeouts and strikeouts per 9.0 innings (13.9) at the time of his injury. Zagurski, 24, has split the 2007 between single-A Clearwater and Reading. In 18 appearances, he was a combined 0-0 with five saves, a 1.16 ERA and had 38 strikeouts in 23.1 innings while holding opposing hitters to a .104 average. He will wear #59.
