This has been a particularly taxing offseason for Brian Calhoun, who has been rehabbing a knee injury. Sunday, though, he pronounced himself fit and ready -- "I'm 100 percent'' -- for the physical challenge and punishment of another training camp.

Also says alot of nice stuff about some things he and Brandon Williams (now WR with the 49'rs) are doing.
the Brian Calhoun Non-contact Youth Football Camps. The one-day sessions, for boys and girls (ages 8 through 18), drew roughly 400 kids in Lancaster, according to Calhoun, and 150 to 200 in Milwaukee. Calhoun is hoping to improve on those numbers next year. To this end, another former Badger, wide receiver Brandon Williams, now a member of the San Francisco 49ers, is following the same lead by sponsoring a youth camp Saturday in his hometown of St. Louis.
"It's pretty cool to have two camps of my own in my first year and it's something I definitely want to keep doing,'' said the 23-year-old Calhoun, who enlisted the support and services of former teammates from Colorado (Joel Klatt and Marcus Moore) and Wisconsin (Houston Oilers tight end Owen Daniels and Jason Palermo). In addition, he tapped into the UW-Whitewater program (Derek Stanley and Trey Bell) and extended an invitation to some current UW players (Tyler Donovan, Luke Swan and Paul Hubbard).
Calhoun believes the camps can be a good forum for pro and college athletes to "lead by example and show what can be achieved'' to young kids who may be seeking direction and inspiration. When asked about NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and his message -- namely his hardline stance on "conduct detrimental to the league" -- Calhoun said, "It needed to be done as far as some of the incidents that have occurred. I'm not bashing or talking about anybody specifically, but if you look at the facts, there has been a lot of stuff that didn't need to happen. He (Goodell) is setting the ground rules and making the examples that, Hey, this is not going to be tolerated and if you do step over the line, you're going to be punished.' "
