Urlacher's mother passes away

By: Larry Mayer | Last Updated: 9/14/2011 1:13 PM

Brian Urlacher’s mother, Lavoyda, passed away suddenly on Monday at her home in Texas.

“My first priority right now is to be with my family as we mourn her loss and make the arrangements to lay her to rest,” Urlacher said in a statement released by the Bears. “This is a very difficult and emotional time for us and I sincerely ask that you respect our privacy. Thank you.”

Urlacher has been excused from the team to be with his family.

Check ChicagoBears.com later for more information.

Is it too early to say "bump Ingram"

:scared:

T&P for the Urlacher family. I have a buddy who grew up with Urlacher in New Mexico, said he's a really nice guy, probably knew his mom too.

I know it's customary to post when a player or former player dies, but relatives?RIP Mrs. U.
This has fantasy implications. He was a beast last weekend against the Falcons. This week the Bears play the Saints. I would say there is some serious fantasy implications if a major cog in the Bears defense is not playing.

I don't know if he will play. He was excused immediately from the team to fly out for a "family emergency". Before we knew what was going on, there was already speculation that he may not play on Sunday. Hopefully he was able to make it out there before Mrs. Urlacher passed. The rest of the team may dedicate the game to her, but that is a gaping hole in the middle of the defense against New Orleans on Sunday if he doesn't play. He was all over the field against Atlanta this past week.

I guess I didn't think of it that way.
I didn't either, until I remembered who they were playing this weekend. I know it's only Wednesday, but they might give him a pass this weekend depending when the funeral is held?

I'm going straight to hell for immediately thinking if I should put Jimmy Graham back into my lineup instead of Gronk.

That is very sad but if he doesn't play it would be incredibly selfish.
Let's not do this.
Do what? I am not talking fantasy implications here (I have no stake in the Bears at all) but real life responsibilities to his teammates. Sure they would understand and say the right things but he would hurt the entire team by not being in the lineup. I think that would be a selfish act. That being said I am not suggesting he won't play I actually think he will.

Brett Favre would play.
When Bret played vs. Oakland (?) following his Dad's passing he put up monster numbers and probably won some folks their FFL championships. I recall it being during FFL Championship week.I refrain from mentioning how it affected my fantasy team, to avert the inevitable: "thanks for keeping us up to date on your FFL squad...we're really interested...keep us updated" replies. That said, this truly sucks for Brian U and it sure puts things into perspective, regarding what's truly important. RIP Mrs. U and prayers to Brian U and family.

Disagree with this. Few things are bigger than football. The death of your mother would be one of them.
 Actually, I can think of a rather large number of things that are bigger than a game.

As a Bears fan, I'll be good either way. Now, if he does play? I'll take the Bears to win the game outright - even if Colston was still playing, and Willie Roaf and Joe Horn were still in their prime.

Mother's death is the one exception to every perceived rule. No one, repeat, NO ONE on the Bears would have any problem with Urlacher if he didn't play. Not just saying the right things. They would not feel privately that he was selfish.

God, Family, Job, Football. Comes in at #4 for me.

Maybe MJD will tweet something about Urlacher's heart. (Ala Cutler)

I am a lifelong Bears fan, whatever decision Brian makes I am behind 100%. He was very close to his mother, I don't know if I could play 5 days after my mother passed.

I think he will play.

Death as sad and brutal as it is, moving on with life is one way of helping to deal with death. Urlacher loves football. I am going to guess that his mother was one of if not his biggest supporters. Therefore I am guessing he plays and will tribute the game to her.

If the death was saturday or sunday then all bets off. But Sunday is still 4 days away. I don't think it would be selfish however, if he was really having a tough time with the death and needed to step away from playing on Sunday. Death effects everyone differently and there is no correct way of dealing with it.

What you can do though is respect whatever decision an individual decides with their choice.

As a Bears fan I wouldn't hold it against Urlacher if he didn't play this weekend. He needs to do what's best for him and his family. That being said, I think he suits up Sunday. The man loves to play football and getting back on the field will be part of the healing process for him.

He'll play. I can't see him letting his team down. It's the right thing to do.
Here fishy, fishy. :fishing:
Not every unpopular opinion is a fishing trip.He has a responsibility to his teammates and the people who pay him millions of dollars. I wager Urlacher feels the same way and will be in the lineup on Sunday.

The Falcons ran for 7.9 yards per carry. Even taking out that 53 yard run for Turner he still had 9/47/5.2 ypc

And that was with Urlacher playing. So if he doesn't, I would give Ingram an upgrade this week.

All that is irrelevant as he needs to do what is best for his family. My condolences to him and his family.

Seriously, some of you people are just flat out messed in the head.He may play, but not because he has any sort of duty to anyone. Family may need him. He may need his family. That trumps his profession. Doesn't matter the money he makes or what a messag board poster thinks. At least have a liitle respect for the guy if he decides to sit this one out.

I've buried a couple of parents and I don't really see it as too tough of a decision for him assuming visitation runs Thursday and/or Friday, with a Saturday funeral. There just won't be anything left for him to do on Sunday besides dedicate a monster game to his mom.

He has a responsibility to the family that brought him into the world and raised him to be what he is today. No job is more important than that.

Perhaps. Not a place for Chaka or anyone else to judge, if he doesn't. Responsibility my ###.

Sorry to hear this...

Would love to see Brian play on Sunday, but hope he doesn't if he's not ready. Wouldn't consider him the least bit selfish if he takes a week off to attend to family.

Family >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Lots of other stuff >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Football

T&P to the Urlacher family.

PS: I realize this is a fantasy football message board, but can we save the analysis for Saints offensive players for other threads. A thread labeled "Brian Urlacher's mother passes away" doesn't need to be littered with suggestions of WDIS in the Bears vs. Saints game. There are plenty of other threads where you can do that.

:goodposting: You are 100% correct Bear,I never thought I'd ever agree with you completely.

I Lost my own mother this past spring and there is still some pain everyday. We don't know how close Brian was with his mother, but no matter what, every one of us has a special connection to our mother that never goes away. My thoughts and prayers are with him and his family at this time.

To those of you who have turned this into a WDIS thread, you should be ashamed. And for those of you who feel Brian "must" start this Sunday, I'll go ahead and assume you've never experienced the pain of a close loved one dying. Both views are nothing short of major ignorance.

I respect Urlacher but what if I don't respect that decision?

Needless to say, it reflects a lot about your priorities in life.
