Hey Sharks,

It's that time of year when I finish compiling all the latest news on all the skill position players (QB, RB, WR, TE, PK) injured during 2010 who are still rehabbing as of the 2011 offseason/preseason. This thread will be updated as news warrants until we start getting official NFL injury reports during week one of the regular season. As tonight is September fourth, 2011, we are switching to NFL regular season mode at Footballguys.com and I will not be maintaining this thread past tonight. The final report in this thread is now uploaded below.

All 32 teams were reviewed initially as of 4/15/2011. I completed a full update and revision on the ongoing report August 30th, 2011. That revision is now uploaded, and I have now updated the entire report to September 4th.

September 4th final post-cut-down update: BAL RB Matt Lawrence, CAR TE Gary Barnidge, DEN RB Brandon Minor, DEN WR Jamel Hamler, DEN TE Dan Gronkowski, GB WR Shaky Smithson, HOU WR Trindon Holliday, HOU WR Terrence Toliver, NO RB Patrick Cobbs and NO WR Joseph Morgan, SF TE Nate Byham, and SEA TE Cameron Morrah. Also, update from Adam Schefter that NO other procedure is planned for IND QB Peyton Manning as of September 4th, 2011. IND RB Chad Spann, Carolina FB Tony Fiammetta, HOU RB Steve Slaton, KC QB Matt Cassel, and HOU RB Arian Foster were also updated.

Thanks to tones, thriftyrocker, gethugefast1, eaglesfan7, smackdaddies, gbill2004 x 2, The Mollusk, and Hipple, Long, Ware and Peete for their input to the report so far.

Thanks to netnalp for an informative post on Antonio Gates' plantar fasciitis problems/treatment options.

QB

Arizona QB Max Hall landed on IR Tuesday, December seventh 2010 due to a dislocated left shoulder. At the time he was injured (December fifth), Hall expected to be out two-to-three weeks, but as it was week 13 already the team moved him to IR. As of April 9th, the team is talking about stashing Hall on the practice squad for 2011 - he looks like a fantasy non-factor in the coming year unless something changes radically in training camp.

Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said following the team's preseason game Thursday, September 1st, that QB Tyrod Taylor's left shoulder injury is not believed to be serious. 'We will see how serious it is tomorrow, but it looks like it won't be that serious,' Harbaugh said.

Carolina QB Jimmy Clausen sat out of practice on Saturday, August 27th due to a knee injury.

Ex-Carolina/now-Miami QB Matt Moore was placed on IR Monday, November eighth 2010, due to a torn labrum in his right shoulder. He underwent surgery to repair the injury, and was expected to take four-to-six months to rehabilitate the shoulder. The selection of Cam Newton with the first overall pick of the draft signaled the end of Moore's time in Carolina – Moore has signed with Miami during free-agency and will compete with Chad Henne to start for the Dolphins.

Carolina QB Tony Pike was placed on IR Friday, December third 2010 due to a shoulder injury. He was 6/12 for 47 yards passing in limited action with the Panthers during 2010. Pike did not practice Monday, August 15th, and head coach Ron Rivera said the quarterback is having his injured shoulder re-examined. Reports on Saturday, August 27th indicated that Pike has recently undergone surgery on a troublesome elbow (not his shoulder) and has been ruled out indefinitely.

Chicago QB Jay Cutler tore the MCL in his left knee on January 23rd, 2011 during the NFC Conference Championship game. Cutler began working out with a handful of offensive teammates Tuesday, May 17th, according to a league source. Former Bears' TE Greg Olsen said on June 27th that Cutler looked good during workouts this offseason. 'I am not a doctor [but] yeah, he looks fine,' Olsen said. 'He looks completely normal to all of us. I think he feels fine so I don't think there is any lingering effects from anything.' Cutler has played in the first two preseason games without lingering effects from the old injury – he is healthy entering regular season.

Ex-Oakland/Now-Cincinnati QB Bruce Gradkowski suffered a third degree separation to his right shoulder during Week 12 of the 2010 season, and was placed on IR December 2nd, 2010 as a result. He was not tendered an offer in March of 2011, so he is probably looking for a new team once the league starts business operations again. On March 9th, team owner Al Davis indicated that Gradkowski's injury history was a big concern for the Raiders, saying "He incurs injuries, and that worries the hell out of me. And I like continuity." Gradkowski has since joined the Cincinnati Bengals, and began taking snaps in Cincinnati on August fourth.

Dallas QB Tony Romo is reportedly fully recovered from the collarbone injury that landed him on IR December 21st, 2010. Dallas Cowboys quarterbacks coach Wade Wilson said on Thursday, February 17th, 2011 that Romo is back to normal. Romo said on July 14th that he is completely healed from the broken collarbone he suffered during the 2010 season. Romo has played in the preseason games and looks fully healthy as of August 23rd.

Detroit QB Matthew Stafford said on Thursday, April 7th, that he is getting "real close" to 100 percent in his recovery from shoulder surgery, according to his official Twitter page. Lions' WR Bryant Johnson said on June 30th that Stafford has looked very good during player-organized workouts this offseason. 'Matt looks good,' Johnson said. 'He had the shoulder problem and he says the shoulder feels 100 percent. He was looking good during the team workout.' Stafford said on July 14th that he expects to be able to play in every game this season. He said his shoulder is fully healed and that he no longer thinks about the injury. On July 30th Stafford reportedly hit every one of his throws to open training camp - he appears fully recovered as of day one of training camp. Stafford has played in all three preseason games and has been razor-sharp as a passer – his injury is a thing of the past.

Detroit QB Drew Stanton's grade three shoulder separation (suffered during the 2010 season) did not require surgery and he feels no lasting effects from the injury, according to local reports filed on May 28th, 2011. As of Monday, July 4th, Stanton was considering testing the free agent market, whenever that opens: "Given that opportunity, I'd be foolish not to see what's out there," said Stanton. However, he also said he would be 'comfortable' re-signing with the Lions. Stanton did re-sign with Detroit on July 27th. He should be the team's #3 QB this year. Stanton was sidelined from practice Sunday, August 14th, due to a punctured elbow that required two stitches. '(He) didn't work yesterday, didn't work today,' head coach Jim Schwartz said. Stanton played in preseason week 2 against the Browns. He posted 6/8 for 80 yards and 2 TDs during the game - his elbow wound appears to be healed.

Green Bay QB Aaron Rodgers was held out of practice Monday, August 29th, due to a foot strain. He was back on the field Tuesday, August 30th, and he played in the preseason finale Thursday, September 1st, against the Kansas City Chiefs, with 3/4 for 20 yards, one TD and zero interceptions.

Indianapolis QB Peyton Manning underwent neck surgery in Chicago on Monday, May 23rd for the second time in the past 15 months. Manning said on May 24th that the procedure was "minimally invasive" and said at that time that he expected to make "a quick recovery." Manning was not ready to participate once training camp started and it was not known how long he would have to sit out as of July 20th, 2011. Team owner Jim Irsay indicated on July 21st that he believes Manning will be ready for the start of regular season. The Colts signed Manning to a $90 million, 5-year deal on July 30th, indicating that they aren't concerned over the neck problem. Manning has begun throwing the football in light work as of Friday, August fifth. However, Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay said on Saturday August 20th that the team is looking into their quarterback situation because they want to be prepared for the possibility of QB Peyton Manning not being ready for the start of the regular season. Manning has not participated in full contact drills as of August 23rd. The Colts do not believe that Manning will be ready for the first game of regular season as of August 24th - they have signed Kerry Collins (late of Tennessee) to be the starter until Manning is ready to start, whether that be week one or later in the season. Manning said on Saturday, August 27th that he hopes to be able to play in Week 1 but wants to be competitive if he does play. 'I sure hope so. I've never missed a game in my entire football career due to an injury since I was 13 years old, and I sure don't want to miss Week 1 of the season,' Manning said. 'That's my goal is to be out there to play and, not just play, but to play competitively. I want to be out there to help my team win and if I'm able to do so, I'll be out there.' Manning was removed from the physically unable to perform list on Monday, August 29th - this means that he can now practice with the team, though he is still doubtful to play in week one according to most observers. Rumors swirled on Sunday, September fourth that Manning would need another neck "procedure", but the team has come out reporting that Manning is being re-evaluated by several doctors because of slow progress, but that no other procedure is planned currently.

Jacksonville QB David Garrard left practice early Thursday, August fourth, because of back stiffness. Head coach Jack Del Rio did not think the injury was a big deal, though. However, Garrard did not participate in the team's scrimmage Saturday, August 6th, because of the injured back, though Garrard indicated that his back is starting to feel better. Garrard would like to play in the team's first preseason game Thursday, August 11th, but he is not going to do anything to risk aggravating his back injury further. Garrard was at practice Monday, August 8th, but did not take any snaps. Garrard said on August 12th that his back is getting better each day but he may not be able to play in a game at this point. He said the injury may have occurred because of a lack of proper preventative care during the offseason. Garrard did appear in the second preseason game on August 19th, but looked rusty with 7/12 for 99 yards, zero TDs and one interception. He threw 11/21 for 106 yards, zero TDs and zero interceptions in the third preseason game, and had 3/9/1 rushing as well.

Jacksonville QB Luke McCown suffered an ACL injury to his right knee on Monday, September 20th, and was placed on IR Tuesday, September 21st, 2010. He had a second reconstructive surgery to the knee shortly after the injury, and was reportedly making good progress in rehabilitation as of February 17th. The team re-signed McCown to a one year deal on Monday, February 28th. McCown was not able to play in the first preseason game Thursday, August 11th, because of soreness in his left oblique. He said he decided to sit out the game instead of playing with the injury.

Kansas City QB Matt Cassel (right shoulder) left the team's preseason finale on September first after getting sacked. Cassel's right shoulder was driven into the ground. He left the game immediately and did not return; however, the injury is not believed to be serious. Updates on September fourth indicate that Cassel suffered a cracked rib as well as wrenching his shoulder.

Miami QB Chad Pennington suffered another season-ending shoulder injury on November 14th, 2010 and was placed on IR the next day. Then, in late March 2011, Pennington tore the ACL in his knee during a pickup basketball game, and had reconstructive knee surgery on April 7th, 2011. As of April 24th, Pennington had shed his crutches from his April seventh surgery. During late May, there were some rumbles that Pennington might land somewhere in the NFL as veteran depth provided that his knee is rehabilitated by the start of the season (but ACL injuries usually take about a year to fully heal). However, on June 19th Pennington said he is planning to sit out the 2011 season and do some work for Fox Sports. He said he has not had any noticeable setbacks in his recovery from a torn anterior cruciate ligament. But he won't score any fantasy points in a broadcast booth - cross Pennington off your QB board, friends.

New England QB Tom Brady underwent surgery January 20th, 2011 to repair a stress fracture in his right foot. As of March 6th, 2011 he was still wearing a walking boot, but by April 1st, 2011 the boot was gone and he was working out throwing passes. As of May 3rd, 2011, his surgically-repaired right foot is expected to be fully healed for the coming season. A source close to the situation said on May third that a recent exam showed that the non-displaced fracture of his navicular bone is bridging - which is an indication that the necessary healing is occurring to permit a complete and healthy return to the field. Brady said on June fifth that his foot is feeling good and that he has been able to run around some during the player-organized workouts. Brady has been dominant during the first two preseason games and looks fully recovered from the foot surgery as of August 23rd.

New York Giants' QB Sage Rosenfels was been sent to the hospital as of August 17th to have his strep throat treated - he returned to training camp on Friday, August 19th after being released from the hospital. Rosenfels missed the third preseason game due to after-effects from his illness and a sore back. As of September third, Rosenfels is out for the season on IR - David Carr is the primary backup to Eli Manning for 2011.

New York Giants' QB Jim Sorgi went on IR August 31st, 2010, due to a torn capsule and a partially torn labrum in his right shoulder. He had surgery to repair the shoulder damage in early September 2010, and wasn't expected to begin throwing again for four to five months. Sorgi is a free agent, one of many still in in limbo.

Ex-New York Jets' QB Erik Ainge has spent the last year recovering from a lingering stress fracture in his right foot (reportedly a problem since high school) and also going through drug rehabilitation and therapy for bipolar disorder. He decided to retire from pro football on June 24th, 2011.

New York Jets' QB Mark Brunell was held out of the preseason opener on August 15th due to a finger injury. He missed the second preseason game due to a sore calf. On August 22nd head coach Rex Ryan said he was unsure if Brunell would be ready for the regular season opener due to this injury. Greg McElroy would likely begin the year as the #2 QB on the depth chart if Brunell can't play. However, McElroy is now on IR, leaving Brunell more secure.

New York Jets' QB Greg McElroy suffered a dislocated right thumb in the final preseason game Thursday, September first. The team will know how long he is out once McElroy undergoes X-rays. Unfortunately, McElroy's injury required surgery on September second - he'll be out indefinitely, and may land on IR. The Jets may try to acquire Kellen Clemens if the Redskins release him, according to local reports. McElroy went on IR September third, 2011 - he is out of the league for a year.

Ex-New York Jets'/Now-Miami QB Kevin O'Connell tore the labrum in his right (throwing) arm during August 2010. He was re-signed to the team on September eighth and placed on IR. O'Connell was released by the Jets on July 29th, but signed with Miami on August fifth.

Oakland QB Jason Campbell was able to practice in full Saturday, August 6th, after missing most of the session Friday, August 5th, to rest his arm. He also tweaked his groin in practice Thursday, August 4th. Campbell did not suffer a serious injury in the second preseason game, but he is going to undergo a concussion test as of 8/21/11. Campbell took a shot to his head, and also seemed to be favoring his hand during the game. Head coach Hue Jackson said Sunday, August 21st, that Campbell will practice Monday, August 22nd. Campbell played in the third preseason game and posted 12/17 for 150 yards passing, 1 TD and 1 interception.

Ex-Oakland QB Charlie Frye went on IR Friday August 20th due to a wrist injury that required surgery. He reportedly needed at least four months to recover from the injury/surgery - he is now an unrestricted free agent looking for a new team as of August 2011.

Ex-Tennessee/now-Philadelphia QB Vince Young had surgery to repair a torn flexor tendon in his throwing-hand thumb on November 26th, 2010 after being placed on IR November 23rd, 2010. He indicated on March 8th, 2011 that his thumb is healing and that he should be ready for the 2011 season. The Titans' selection of Jake Locker with the eighth pick of the draft sealed the departure of Young to Philadelphia – he started practicing with his new team on August fourth. Young suffered a right hamstring injury in the fourth preseason game on September first - the severity of the injury is under evaluation.

Pittsburgh QB Dennis Dixon suffered a torn meniscus cartilage in his knee and had surgery to correct the injury in late September. He was finally placed on IR on October 2nd, 2010 when it became clear that his recovery would take up half (or more) of regular season. He was tendered a restricted free agent offer on March 3rd, 2011 and is expected to stay with the team as a backup to Ben Roethlisberger. Dixon signed his one-year tender on August first and will play for the Steelers in 2011. Due to Byron Leftwich's broken arm, Dixon is in the mix to be the #2 QB in Pittsburgh as of Monday, August 29th.

Pittsburgh QB Byron Leftwich suffered a broken upper left arm in the preseason game Saturday, August 27th, against the Atlanta Falcons. Leftwich will likely be placed on the season-ending Injured Reserve list. He underwent surgery on Monday, August 29th to repair the fracture.

Pittsburgh QB Ben Roethlisberger will not require surgery on the foot he broke last season, but he might require a surgical procedure in the future - there have been conflicting reports on the foot injury during the last week in June. Roethlisberger has been working out extensively with the other Steelers during June - "We've worked out, linemen, running backs, tight ends, everybody. All of the offense. It's gone really well. We've had some good progress, just to kind of refresh people's memories on audible calls or no-huddle calls, little things like that." Roethlisberger said on June 21st, "We've probably worked out more than most teams. It's just that we choose to keep it quiet." Roethlisberger is taking first-team snaps for the Steelers as of the first week in August – the foot doesn't appear to be an issue. He passed for 11/16 for 214 yards and two TDs vs. Atlanta in the third preseason game.

San Francisco QB Colin Kaepernick started working out with his teammates the last week of May and threw some passes Friday, May 27th, 2011. Kaepernick worked out fully on June 29th for the first time since undergoing the minor surgical procedure on his lower left leg. According to local reports on July 11th, Kaepernick has wasted no time in impressing teammates at players only workouts. He's wowed his new squad with his rocket arm. "He's got a gun," one close observer said of Kaepernick. "He's got a much stronger arm than Alex Smith. As a sophomore pitcher in high school, he was throwing a baseball 93 mph." Kaepernick has been playing during the preseason and appears past the leg injury.

Ex-Minnesota/Now-Seattle QB Tarvaris Jackson was not tendered an offer in March, making him an unrestricted free agent. He was placed on IR December 16th, 2010 due to a toe injury suffered on Monday, December 13th, 2010. He did not require surgery on the injury. Jackson is now penciled in as the starting QB in Seattle after landing there in free agency.

Tennessee QB Matt Hasselbeck is scheduled to return to practice on Wednesday, August 24th after resting for a few days due to a minor chest injury. He passed for 12/22, 135 yards and zero TDs or interceptions in the third preseason game on August 27th.

Washington QB John Beck has been inconsistent during training camp so far and had a sore arm during practice on Tuesday, 8/2/11. Beck (groin) was limited during practice Saturday, August 6th, after feeling some soreness in his groin. Beck said after practice that he is not worried about the injury. Beck said on August 8th that he plans to play in the first preseason game even though he has been limited with the groin injury. Beck played in the second preseason game Friday, August 19th. Head coach Mike Shanahan said on Monday August 22nd that he will wait to name his Week 1 starting quarterback until right before the game. He said the competition between QBs John Beck and Rex Grossman is close and would be comfortable with either as the starting quarterback. .

RB

Ex-Arizona FB Nehemiah Broughton was placed on IR August 31st, 2010 due to a torn ACL in a knee. He was expected to start and be the lead blocker for Chris Wells last year, but that didn't happen due to the injury – he is no longer with the team.

Arizona RB Ryan Williams suffered an injury to his right knee and leg in the preseason game Friday, August 19th. Early indication is that the injury is a ruptured patella tendon. Williams underwent surgery Monday, August 22nd, to repair a ruptured patella tendon in his right knee. He is out for the season.

Ex-Atlanta/Now-St. Louis RB Jerious Norwood was on IR from week two of the 2010 regular season due to another in a series of knee injuries (he tore his ACL). The Falcons drafted Jacquizz Rodgers during the NFL draft, and he is seen as a complementary back to Turner in the same sort of mold as Norwood. Norwood's agent asserted on July eighth that Norwood is 'completely recovered' from the torn anterior cruciate ligament he suffered last season. The St. Louis Rams agreed and signed Norwood to a one year deal on August second. Norwood didn't practice on Monday, August 15th due to another knee problem - it is unclear when the problem started as he wasn't listed on the post-game injury report on August 13th. Norwood returned to practice Tuesday, August 16th. He missed the session Monday due to soreness in his surgically repaired knee.

ATL RB Michael Turner opened training camp on July 28th fully recovered from offseason groin surgery. Turner said that the surgery was a success. “It went good,” Turner said 7/28. “I was out there running and stuff. It went pretty good. It feels good to be back playing football.” Head coach Mike Smith said on 7/30: “We feel very confident with the procedure that was done and with his rehab. He’s been back to full speed for a number of weeks. It was not a very complicated procedure.” Turner has played throughout the preseason.

Baltimore RB Matt Lawrence suffered a season-ending knee injury (torn ACL) in November of 2009. He started 2010 on the PUP/Reserve list due to the ongoing rehabilitation of his knee, and was left on PUP on November 29th, 2010 - he was never activated to the 53-man roster during 2010. He is still on the depth chart as of August 23rd, but he's deeply buried on it, behind five other running backs. Lawrence was placed on IR September third - his season is over.

Ex-Houston/Now-Baltimore FB Vonta Leach had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee February 8th, 2011. Leach said he began running Monday, Feb. 28, with only minimal swelling and no pain. "I had to get my knee scoped," Leach said. "It bothered me all year. I had to get my knee drained and take shots six times during the season so I could play. Before most of the games it would be swollen like a softball." Leach reported that he hurt his knee during the second game of the 2010 season. His rehabilitation is ongoing as of mid-April. Leach signed a three-year deal to block for Ray Rice once free agency opened, so he's presumably healthy once again having passed the Baltimore team physical.

Buffalo rookie RB Johnny White was carted off Saturday 8/20/11 after his head was driven to the grass on a clean tackle by linebacker Mario Haggan. White moved his left hand as he left, and after a trip to the hospital he re-joined the team to fly home. Further evaluations of his injury are ongoing. As of August 23rd, he is expected to miss the rest of preseason while he recovers from his concussion. White did return to practice on Monday, August 29th.

Ex-Carolina/Now-Dallas FB Tony Fiammetta was unable to practice on Monday, August 15th due to a neck stinger. He was held out of the preseason game on Friday, August 19th and Thursday, August 25th for the same reason. "Fiammetta was a little bit more severe than we expected. He hasn't bounced back like the other guys." head coach Rivera commented on Saturday, August 27th. On September first, the team revealed Fiammetta could miss a significant amount of time because of the neck injury. The team has signed Jerome Felton as injury insurance for Fiammetta. He was waived on September third. Dallas claimed Fiammetta off of waivers on September fourth.

Carolina RB Mike Goodson returned to practice on Saturday, August 27th despite his sore foot.

Carolina RB Jonathan Stewart left practice early Wednesday, August 17th, after injuring his Achilles' tendon. He was held out the rest of practice as a precaution. This is a troubling development as Stewart had reportedly finally rehabbed the Achilles' injury that has inhibited him since joining the league in his rookie year - now the old injury has flared up again. Stewart was held in check by the Cincinnati Bengals Thursday, August. 25th. He ran eight times for just 13 yards.

Carolina RB DeAngelo Williams was placed on IR November 17th, 2010 due to a nagging foot injury that didn't heal during the regular season. On March second 2011 the team placed a RFA tender on Williams (it would take a first- and third-round draft pick to sign him), which should insure that Williams remains with the Panthers during 2011. Coach Ron Rivera expects that first pick's Cam Newton's presence will open up running lanes for Williams (comments on April 29th, 2011). Reports on May 22nd indicated that Carolina believes Williams is their team's best running back and hope he re-signs with the team once free agency begins. After a $43 million offer from the Panthers, Williams did re-sign with Carolina and remains a Panther as of August fourth, when he started practicing for the team once again. He has played in the first two preseason games and appears fully healthy as of August 23rd. Williams rushed for 5/27/0 and added 1/11/0 receiving on August 25th, at Cincinnati.

Chicago RB Marion Barber suffered a calf injury in the third preseason game on August 27th, and did not return to action. He was unable to practice on Monday, August 29th.

Chicago RB Harvey Unga suffered a severe hamstring injury during early August 2010, and was placed on IR August 12th. As of March 7th, 2011 Chicago RB coach Tim Spencer commented that Unga will only make the team by impressing in special teams duty - Unga's future with the club is cloudy (at best). Unga missed the second preseason game on Monday, August 22nd due to “personal” reasons. Unga was placed on the reserve/left squad list Saturday, September third. He has been excused from the team since early in training camp due to an undisclosed personal issue.

Chicago FB Wil Ta'ufo'ou sprained his right MCL during a late August preseason game and landed on IR August 31st, 2010. He is listed as the team's top FB as of August 23rd.

Cincinnati FB Brian Leonard went on IR December 28th, 2010 due to an ankle injury that cost him several games at the end of the regular season. He was tendered a second round offer on March 3rd, 2011 - after free agency opened, Leonard wound up re-signing with Cincinnati.

Cincinnati RB Bernard Scott has been nursing a sore hamstring since the opening week of training camp. Scott has been sidelined since the team's first practice, but he might return to individual workouts Monday August 15th. Scott did play in the third preseason game on Thursday, August 25th, and put up 6/63/1 rushing - even with the solid showing, Scott asserted after the game that he still isn't 100% recovered from the hamstring injury.

Cleveland RB Montario Hardesty suffered a torn ACL in his left knee on September 2nd, 2010. He was placed on IR September third. Hardesty asserted on February 25th, 2011 that "I'll be cleared to play football in a couple of months, so by May, I'll be ready to practice." Hardesty said Thursday, July 14th, that he would be ready for training camp. However, Hardesty was still not working with the team on Friday, August 5th. Reporters witnessed him just running short distances and then rubbing at his troublesome knee, and there are rumors that the joint isn't recovered. Hardesty was sidelined again during practice on Monday, August 8th and also Tuesday, August 9th. Hardesty again worked on the side with trainers Wednesday, August 10th, as he continues to mend after knee surgery. Hardesty finally returned to practices on Monday, August 15th - we'll see if his knee holds up. He was held out of the second preseason game and we'll likely only see him in the third preseason test before the beginning of regular season. Hardesty did take first team full-contact reps on Tuesday, August 23rd, and reportedly ran well during the session. Hardesty saw his first game action on Thursday, August 25th since suffering a torn left ACL last year. He had five carries for 15 yards against the Philadelphia Eagles. Hardesty was reportedly running well and making cuts in practice Tuesday, August 30th, as he appears ready to move into the primary backup job behind Peyton Hillis.

Cleveland RB Peyton Hillis "tweaked" a hamstring in practice on Wednesday, August 17th and was held out for the remainder of the practice as a precautionary measure.Though he skipped the second preseason game, Hillis practiced with the team on Sunday, August 21st. However, Hillis sat out of practice on Tuesday, August 23rd while the team took an extended look at Montario Hardesty. Hillis played briefly during the third preseason game on August 25th, with 3/18/0 rushing and he led the team in receiving with 2/35/0.

Cleveland RB Brandon Jackson didn't practice on Sunday, August 21st or Tuesday, August 23rd due to a sore toe. On Friday, August 26th Browns head coach Pat Shurmur said Jackson will be out for a significant amount of time because of his toe injury – Jackson missed the third preseason game. Cleveland Browns general manager Tom Heckert said Tuesday, August 30th, that Jackson might be headed for the season-ending Injured Reserve list. 'We're still kind of waiting on Brandon,' Heckert said. 'He's not going to need surgery. It's just a matter of when he's ready.' Heckert said a decision will be ade based on 'who else is available.' Head coach Pat Shurmur added that Jackson is 'in a cast, and it's settling down.' Local reports on September third indicate that Jackson was sent to IR - his season is over.

Dallas RB Tashard Choice hurt his calf on 7/31/11, sidelining him 2-4 weeks. Choice didn't play in the second preseason game on August 21st due to the calf injury. He did play in week three, posting 3/14/0 rushing at Minnesota.

Dallas RB DeMarco Murray reported to camp with a hamstring injury that could cost him two weeks worth of training camp practices. This is not good news for a rookie who has already gone without OTAs and minicamps this year. Murray is expected to participate in practice Tuesday, August 23rd. Murray has been unable to practice since the start of training camp. Murray led the team in rushing on August 27th at Minnesota, with 7/32/0 and he had one reception for seven yards.

Denver RB Brandon Minor was placed on IR September third (undisclosed injury), and will not play this season.

Denver RB Knowshon Moreno struggled with injured ribs to close the 2010 season (he appeared in 13 games last year) - so far during his career, Moreno hasn't proven to be a durable starter for the Broncos. Persistent rumors throughout June indicate that the Broncos are expected to be players in free agency seeking an upgrade at running back, which would likely move Moreno to a third-down/change-of-pace role on the team. The team did sign Willis McGahee when free agency opened, and it remains to be seen how the two will split up the work. Moreno and McGahee had 10 carries each in the third preseason game, with 10/47/0 rushing for Moreno and 10/25/1 rushing for McGahee.

Ex-Denver RB LenDale White had surgery to repair a ruptured Achilles tendon on Tuesday, September 7th, 2010. He missed the entire 2010 season, but there is some speculation that White is still in the Broncos' plans for 2011. Fantasy owners will want to wait and see how well White has recovered from this injury before investing a pick in him. As of May 14th, 2011 White was back to running eight months after his surgery. After a workout (on or about May 14th) he commented on how he felt great, but is not doing explosive drills yet. White (back injury) did not participate in practice Wednesday, August 3rd. White was released by the team on Tuesday, August 16th after a lack-luster showing in the team's first preseason game.

Detroit RB Jahvid Best suffered a turf toe injury to his right big toe during week three of regular season 2010, and struggled to play through the injury for the rest of the year. Best looked good catching the ball during one-on-one drills against the linebackers Saturday, July 30th. His toes have not been an issue during training camp. However, Best suffered an apparent concussion on August 19th during the second preseason game. Best admitted to being "woozy" after a big hit and was held out of the remainder of the game. 'I just wasn't feeling right so they told me to sit down. I'm not concerned at all,' Best said on August 21st. Lions head coach Jim Schwartz said on Monday August 22nd that the hope is that Best can return to practice Tuesday, August 23rd. However, the team elected to hold Best out for precautionary reasons on the 23rd, though some reports indicate that he is cleared. He did not appear in the third preseason game on August 27th.Best played very briefly in the preseason finale on September 1st, with 2/2/0 rushing to his credit. Best said on September third that he feels comfortable entering the season. He wishes he had a little more action in the preseason, but he noted that is just how it goes. 'I'll be playing a lot next week (Week 1 versus the Tampa Bay Buccaneers),' Best said. 'I'm really excited. I mean, I'm not going out there to prove anything. I'm going out there to just play, but I'm really excited about week one.'

Detroit RB Mikel Leshoure tore his left Achilles in practice on Monday, August 8th and is lost for the 2011 season.

Detroit RB Maurice Morris didn't practice on Monday, August 8th due to a hand injury. Morris remains sidelined due to a broken right hand. His return date is unclear as of mid-August. Morris missed the third preseason game on August 27th.

Ex-Detroit RB Kevin Smith was placed on IR November 23rd, 2010 due to a thumb injury. He underwent surgery to repair shoulder damage on December 10th, 2010, and was also dealing with problems in his surgically repaired knee as of late 2010. He became a free agent on March 3rd, 2011, when the team did not tender him an offer.

Green Bay RB Ryan Grant suffered a severe right ankle injury on September 12th, 2010 and was placed on IR Tuesday, September 14th due to the injury. He underwent surgery on September 23rd, 2010 to help torn ligaments heal properly. Grant returned to the field Saturday, July 30th, and said his body feels the best it has in a long time. He said his ankle has fully healed and he is able to move at full speed. Green Bay Packers' offensive coordinator Joe Philbin and Jerry Fontenot said on August 18th that Grant has the burst this training camp that he had before suffering the season-ending knee injury last season. Grant led the team in rushing at Indianapolis on August 26th, with 6/16/0 and added 1/6/0 receiving.

Ex-Green Bay FB Korey Hall suffered a knee injury during December 2010, and was unable to finish playing out the season as a result. He was not tendered an offer this spring. He was an unrestricted free agent as of early April. Hall is now a New Orleans' Saint, and sits atop the FB depth chart.

Houston RB Arian Foster had arthroscopic knee surgery (right knee) to repair cartilage damage on February 23rd, 2011. He reportedly sustained the injury during the preseason, and yet was able to play well throughout the year despite the injury. He is expected to fully recover well in advance of training camp. Foster signed a one-year tender on Friday, July 31st. Foster pulled up lame and grabbed his leg after a 40-yard run to the end zone on the first play of 11-on-11 scrimmage on Friday, August fifth, the first day he could practice with the team. Speaking after practice, head coach Kubiak admitted he didn’t yet know how bad the injury was. “I don’t know, but he didn’t feel good so I just said ‘Get out,’” Kubiak said. “He went 35, 40 minutes (in practice) and looked great, so I’m hoping he’ll be right back out here. We’ll see.” 'Knee injuries are frightening. Hamstrings are part of the business,' Foster said on Saturday, August 6th. 'I think anytime you have a hamstring injury, you have to rest it. That's the only thing that can heal it. So that's what we're doing right now.' Foster participated in practice Wednesday, August 17th. He said on the 17th that he believes he is close to 100 percent healthy. As of August 18th Foster is expected to play in the second preseason game. Foster scored twice against the Saints and showed no ill effects during the second preseason game. Unfortunately, Foster aggravated his troublesome hamstring injury during the third preseason game Saturday, August 27th - he was seen angrily throwing his helmet after the injury and appeared really upset, according to local reports. Coach Gary Kubiak commented on Saturday night: 'We don't think it's anything worse than what we were dealing with before...I'm just hoping...he'll be ready for opening day,' Foster commented on his latest problems with the hamstring saying on Monday, August 26th "It was just a mild strain, so I'm already jogging," Foster said. "It feels good.". Foster and the team plans for him to start the first regular season game. However, reports on August 31st, 2011 indicated that Foster might miss 1-2 weeks of the regular season due to this lingering injury, though he still insists that he's fine. The outlook for Foster in week 1 is cloudy at best as of September second. Foster is day-to-day due to his injury as of September fourth, according to head coach Gary Kubiak. He is likely to be a game-time-decision for the season opener.

Houston RB Steve Slaton suffered a hamstring injury during practice Thursday, August 11th. Slaton has missed the entire slate of preseason games as of August 26th, but finally returned to practice on August 30th, 2011. Head coach Gary Kubiak wasn't certain if Slaton could play in the September first preseason finale, and in fact Slaton didn't record a carry or a catch in the final preseason game. Slaton made the team's final 53-man roster. Slaton did not play during the preseason due to a hamstring injury, but he still was able to make the team as their #4 running back.

Houston RB Ben Tate suffered a fractured right fibula and torn right ankle ligaments in August of 2010, and was placed on IR August 16th. Surgery to repair his ankle followed - as of February 22nd, 2011 he was fully medically cleared to resume football activities. Tate is widely expected to surpass Derrick Ward as Arian Foster's backup once training camp begins, though reports in mid-July have Ward ahead of Tate on the initial depth chart. Tate has reportedly recovered well from last year's fractured fibula and torn ligaments in his left ankle. Running backs coach Chick Harris said on August 6th that Tate is showing the injury hasn't caused him to lose any of his speed or quickness. "It seems like Ben has been doing good work in the offseason because he is in good shape," Harris said. However, Tate missed the team's preseason opener on Monday Night Football 8/15/11 due to a hamstring injury. 'Tate just hasn't come along,' head coach Gary Kubiak said. 'Everything thought he could - our trainers, our doctors - but he hasn't. So, we'll listen to him.' As of August 18th Tate was expected to play in the second preseason game. He did play, and played well – Tate appears to be over the sore hamstring as of August 23rd. He also played well in the third preseason game at San Francisco.

Houston RB Derrick Ward was forced out of the team's preseason opener on Monday Night Football August 15th due to a head injury. Ward did practice on Monday, August 22nd and appeared in the third preseason game on August 27th at San Francisco.

Indianapolis RB Devin Moore suffered a brachial plexus injury during week four of the 2010 season, and was placed on IR on October 5th, 2010 as a result of the injury. The brachial plexus is a set of nerves in the upper body (neck/armpit/arm) - the status of Moore's recovery from the injury is unclear as of mid-April 2011. Moore asserted on June 12th that he is fully recovered from the surgery he underwent to repair the nerve damage in his neck and shoulder. Moore was fully cleared for football activities on July 29th, 2011.

Indianapolis RB Chad Spann was placed on IR Sunday, September fourth for an undisclosed reason.

Jacksonville RB Rashad Jennings returned to practice on Wednesday, August 17th after missing time due to a head injury. However, Jennings suffered a knee injury of unspecified severity on Saturday, August 27th. Unfortunately, Jennings has been placed on IR by the team as of September third due to the knee injury. He is done for the season.

Jacksonville RB Maurice Jones-Drew had surgery in January to repair meniscus damage in his left knee. As of April 5th, 2011 Jones-Drew was reportedly well ahead of schedule in his rehabilitation of the knee. Jaguars offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter said Tuesday, July 12th, that the team has not had any internal discussions on limiting the workload of Jones-Drew during the regular season. However, Jones-Drew was limited on the first day of training camp and we may not see much of him during preseason. Reports on August second noted that he continues to do limited work as the team approaches his integration into the offense cautiously due to the sore knee. Jones-Drew practiced for the first time Saturday, August 13th, and said he was not feeling any soreness Sunday, August 14th. 'I kind of got that feel back getting hit. Today was no soreness, no setbacks. No nothing,'. Local reports on August 18th indicated that Jones-Drew has looked good when he has been able to play during practices at training camp. Jones-Drew has shown off his burst, cutting ability and acceleration during running situations. However, the team indicated on Tuesday, August 23rd that they will hold Jones-Drew out of the third preseason game on Saturday, August 27th. The team plans to play Jones-Drew in the final preseason contest, but didn't specify for how long he might be on the field.

Kansas City RB Jamaal Charles suffered a leg injury in practice Wednesday, August 24th. He was fully dressed during pre-game warmups Friday, August 26th, for the preseason game against the St. Louis Rams, and saw action on the team's second offensive series, so it appears his injury is not a major concern.

Ex-Miami FB Deon Anderson was placed on IR October 30th, 2010 due to a torn triceps. He was waived on March 3rd, 2011, and is currently one of many UFAs in limbo due to the ongoing NFL labor strife. He has not been signed as of August fifth, 2011.

Miami RB Kory Sheets tore his Achilles tendon on August 4th, 2010 and was placed on IR due to the injury. His status for 2011 is unknown as of mid-May 2011, although he did speak out on Sunday, May 22nd saying he intended to be in the mix as a starter for Miami this year: "With Ronnie and Ricky (Williams) possibly not coming back I don't plan on doing too much kick returning. I plan on being the main guy, picking up where Ronnie and Ricky left off.” It remains to be seen how well his injured Achilles tendon has been rehabilitated as of May 22nd, though, thanks to the ongoing NFL labor stoppage. Sheets said on June 10th that he is completely recovered from the Achilles' tendon injury that made him miss the 2010 season. He was working on building his speed back up at that time. Sheets is still with the Dolphins as of August 23rd, but is buried behind four other backs on the depth chart.

Minnesota RB Lorenzo Booker underwent an MRI that revealed a disk problem in his back according to reports on August 28th. While he is still expected to be ready for the season opener, according to the team, he collapsed on the field during the third preseason game without taking any contact. Non-contact injuries are very worrisome as they usually indicate a significant underlying problem.

Ex-Minnesota RB Albert Young was not tendered a contract offer during March of 2011 - he ended 2010 on IR due to a knee sprain (placed on IR December 7th, 2010). He remains unsigned as of August fifth.

New England RB Kevin Faulk was placed on IR September 22nd, 2010 after tearing the ACL in his right knee. As of March 9th, 2011, he estimated that the knee was 70-75% healed (he had reconstructive surgery on October 21st). As of mid-April, he was rehabbing the knee, working out on LSU's campus at times, just in case he decided to play football again in 2011. Faulk participated in the player-organized workout Wednesday, June 1st, and indication that the knee rehabilitation is going well. Faulk said on June 13th he has been able to 'do everything' in his rehab from the knee injury he suffered during last season. Faulk re-signed with the Patriots on July 31st. However, Faulk acknowledged on August 31st that he probably will start the regular season on the Physically Unable to Perform list. He was placed on PUP September third, 2011, and will miss at least the first six weeks of the 2011 season.

New England RB Danny Woodhead was knocked out of the team's preseason game Thursday, August 18th, in the fourth quarter when he took a big hit while covering a punt and stumbled when trying to get on his feet. Woodhead, however, was in the locker room after the game and said he felt fine. Woodhead led the Patriots in rushing on August 27th at Detroit (4/28/0, with 3/21/0 receiving).

New England RB Shane Vereen joined practices on Wednesday, August 24th after missing the bulk of training camp due to a hamstring injury. He didn't carry the ball at Detroit on August 27th.

He did play in the third preseason game at Oakland and led the team in rushing with 6/50/1, and also led the team in receiving with 2/92/0.

Ex-New Orleans RB Ladell Betts was placed on IR Wednesday, December eighth 2010 due to a neck injury.

Ex-New Orleans RB P.J. Hill was placed on IR after clearing waivers during August of 2010 due to a triceps injury. He was waived by the team on Friday, February 11th, 2011. He remains unsigned as of August fifth, 2011.

Ex-New Orleans RB Lynell Hamilton tore his right ACL on August 11th, 2010. As of February 11th, 2011 Hamilton was expected to be with the team to start training camp, but his future with the team is unknown as he attempts to recover from his knee injury. Reports on April 10th indicated that Hamilton hasn't been forgotten by the team, but their draft selection of Mark Ingram in the first round makes for a very crowded backfield down in the Big Easy. Hamilton was knocked off the roster on Thursday, August fourth when the Saints released him.

New Orleans rookie RB Mark Ingram missed practice Tuesday, August 23rd, due to a knee injury. However, head coach Sean Payton said he expected the rookie back soon. Ingram played and scored a TD at Oakland on August 28th (6/7/1 rushing with 2/24/0 receiving).

New Orleans RB Chris Ivory (foot injury) has been walking around without a protective boot on his foot and believes his foot is improving weekly, according to local reports on March 28th. A very crowded backfield in New Orleans may mean Ivory is the odd man out now that training camp has started, though - there are a lot of RBs on that roster as of the opening of camp, with Darren Sproles coming in to fill Reggie Bush's (to Miami) role on the team. Ivory is physically unable to participate as of the opening of training camp due to his ongoing struggle with a Lisfranc injury in his foot. Ivory has undergone surgery to repair a sports hernia, coach Sean Payton announced after practice Friday, August fifth. Ivory, who led the team in rushing as a rookie last season when injuries ravaged the depth chart, had been missing training camp as he recovers from foot surgery. The team expects Ivory to take about three weeks to recover from the latest sports hernia surgery - he may miss all of training camp if the best-case scenario doesn't play out. Ivory was placed on the PUP list on September third and will miss at least the first six weeks of the 2011 season.

Ex-New Orleans FB Marcus Mailei was waived on Friday, February 11th after being on the IR list during 2010 (leg injury).

New Orleans' RB Patrick Cobbs (undisclosed injury) landed on IR September third, 2011. He is done for the season.

New Orleans RB Pierre Thomas reported on March 11th that he has received clearance to walk on his surgically repaired ankle and will begin rehab soon. Thomas got a 4-year, $12 million extension from the team earlier in March - he is expected to be ready to play football whenever training camp begins, according to Saints' GM Mickey Loomis (comments on March 14th). As of April 13th, Thomas was out of his walking boot and starting work on his rehabilitation program. Thomas reportedly might not be back at full strength when training camp starts, although he shed his walking boot in mid-April and is making progress in his recovery from major offseason ankle surgery as of May 18th, 2011. There were rumors in mid-June that the Saints were seeking to trade Thomas, but those were quashed: 'He's here,' said one coach on June 21st when asked about some reports that Thomas might now be expendable. 'We've seen firsthand that you can't have enough (backs).' On July 29th Thomas revealed that he is only about 85% healed from his ankle surgery as of the start of training camp. However, he played well in the second preseason game, and followed up with a solid 3/9/1 rushing at Oakland on August 28th. Reports out of New Orleans on Tuesday, August 30th indicate that he and Mark Ingram will share duties during regular season.

NYG RB Ahmad Bradshaw reported on April fifth that he is ready to "fly" after having rehabbed his ankle from a February surgery. Bradshaw said on July 19th that he feels 100 percent healthy. Bradshaw re-signed with the team on August first, 2011. Bradshaw was able to play sparingly in the third preseason game on Monday, August 29th despite a sore back. He should be good to go for regular season.

Ex-NYG FB Madison Hedgecock was hampered by a hamstring injury during the latter part of the 2010 regular season. He was placed on IR November 24th, 2010 due to the injury. He has since been released and hasn't signed with another team as of August fifth, 2011.

NYG RB Charles Scott (undisclosed) was involved in a car accident in Louisiana during the second week of May but did not suffer any career threatening injuries and should be fine. Scott did spend some time in a hospital's ICU but has been taken out of the unit. Scott's agent said Scott suffered cuts and bruises. He is with the team as of August 23rd, but buried on the depth chart behind five other running backs.

NYJ RB Shonn Greene has a low-grade skin infection on his foot as of August 18th, and did not play in the second preseason game Sunday, August 21st due to the infection. Greene said on Tuesday, August 23rd that his foot is fine and that he expects to play in the third preseason game Saturday, August 27th. He said he did not have any lingering effects after initially having some swelling and pain because of a low-grade infection. The game was rescheduled to Monday, August 29th due to Hurrican Irene – Greene led the team with 11/42/0 rushing and added 2/7/0 receiving.

NYJ RB Joe McKnight has been diagnosed with a concussion and will not participate in practice Wednesday, August 17th.

Oakland RB Taiwan Jones said on May 25th that he is taking his time to let his surgically repaired foot heal and is trying to get back into game shape. Jones has been getting into huddles during player workouts in order to learn the offense faster. Jones worked off individually to the side of practice Friday, August 5th, due to an undisclosed injury. Jones (hamstring injury) returned to practice Monday, August 22nd. Jones played well during his preseason debut on August 28th, with 13/81/1 rushing and 2/18/0 receiving. 'He did it,' coach Hue Jackson said. 'That's what I talk about. It's performance. What you do in practice needs to show up on the field, and that's what the young man did, and that's what I'm looking forward.'

Oakland RB Darren McFadden missed a little more than two weeks of practice due to fracturing his orbital bone (eye socket) on Thursday August fourth. McFadden went through non-contact drills with the football Monday, August 15th - he didn't wear a helmet due to his healing facial injury. McFadden returned to full practices on Monday, August 22nd. He was held out of the third preseason game for precautionary reasons.

Ex-Philadelphia FB Leonard Weaver has had a tendon transfer surgery on his injured left foot, a rare procedure - he is the first NFL player to test the surgery. He also had multiple knee surgeries to correct a torn ACL, torn PCL, and nerve damage - it remains to be seen if he can recover from the procedures to play again during 2011. The team is reportedly preparing to play without Weaver this year, with Owen Schmitt penciled in as the new starter at FB. Weaver has been released and as of August fifth hasn't signed with another team.

Pittsburgh RB Baron Batch was carted off the field during practice Wednesday, August 10th, after injuring his left knee. He was not able to put any weight on his knee after the injury. Unfortunately, it was revealed on August 11th that Batch has torn the ACL in his knee and is done for the season.

Pittsburgh RB Isaac Redman left the preseason game early Thursday, August 18th, because of an ankle injury. He'll be evaluated further as the weekend goes along. Redman played in the third preseason game vs. Atlanta on August 27th.

St. Louis Rams RB Steven Jackson missed practice Tuesday, August 16th, due to a sore left hip. Head coach Steve Spagnuolo said it was 'just a little bit of left hip soreness.' Jackson might return as soon as Wednesday, August 17th. Jackson had six carries for 10 yards in his preseason debut Saturday, August 20th. He led the team in rushing at Kansas City during the third preseason game with 15/72/0 and he had 1/5/0 receiving.

St. Louis FB Brit Miller went on IR December 22nd, 2010 due to a torn right ACL. He had just been elevated to starting full back two games prior to the untimely ACL injury - his status for 2011 is very much up in the air as of April 2011. He began training camp July 30th – on the PUP list.

St. Louis RB Eddie Wide was unable to practice on Monday, August 15th or Tuesday August 16th due to a shoulder injury.

San Diego RB Ryan Mathews had a wrist surgery in January, according to local reports. Also, the ankle injury that hampered him during his rookie season is now reported to be 100% healed. However, he was reportedly 'sore' after taking his speed test in training camp and has yet to practice as of 8/1/11. Mathews (toe) missed his second straight practice Monday, Aug. 1, due to a toe injury, not soreness as previously reported. Mathews (toe) was rested Sunday, August 7th, and did not take part in the team's training camp practice. Mathews is unlikely to play in the team's preseason opener Thursday, Aug. 11. He has been hampered by a slightly strained muscle in his upper leg in addition to his bum toe. 'In the early preseason games, we always err on the side of caution,' head coach Norv Turner said Monday, August 8th. Mathews played well in the second preseason game on August 21st, and looks healed from the early-in-camp injuries. 'He's going to get a chance to show he's in great shape because he's going to get opportunities,' head coach Norv Turner said after the game. 'I love what we're going. I love the combination of he and (RB Mike Tolbert).' Mathews posted 10/69/0 rushing to lead the team at Arizona during the third preseason game.

Ex-San Diego/Now-New Orleans RB Darren Sproles struggled with a concussion during December of 2010, and was not tendered an offer this past March. He is expected to find a new team during free agency once that occurs. The team drafted a replacement for Sproles - Jordan Todman of Connecticut was selected in the sixth round. Sproles signed with New Orleans at the start of free agency and will fill the third-down/change of pace role for the Saints this year. He has played during preseason and shows no ill effects from last year's concussion as of August 23rd.

San Francisco RB Frank Gore was placed on IR November 30th, 2010 due to a fractured hip. He didn't require surgery to repair the break, and he is expected to be the team's featured back again during 2011. He was reported to be completely healed from the injury as of February 17th, 2011. "I will be better," Gore said on February 17th. "I will take it one day at a time. I'm just happy to say that my injury healed perfectly. And right now I'm trying to get some strength, and in another week start running." The team has been upfront with their expectations for Gore in Jim Harbaugh's new offense - Gore is expected to be the "bell-cow" featured runner during 2011 and beyond. Gore ended a short holdout and Gore took part in his first training camp practice of the year Tuesday, August second. It appears that his hip is not a worry as of the start of training camp. Gore started practicing with the team on August second, and has participated in sessions since then. He and the team are continuing contract negotiations as of August 21st.

Tampa Bay RB Earnest Graham suffered a season-ending neck injury in week 16 last year, but it didn't require surgical repair. "I wasn't going to be able to play the next game, so you might as well open up the roster spot [by placing him on injured reserve]," Graham said on June 4th, 2011. "We had a lot of young guys. I definitely wasn't going to be ready the next game. A neck is a thing you don't play around with. I'm getting in shape as normal now (as of early June). I could be anything from a 215 pound halfback to 230 pound fullback. When we get back, I'll probably have an idea where I fit in. There is definitely value in being flexible, which I have been for most of my career." As of August fourth, Graham is competing to be the team's third-down back.

Ex-Tampa Bay RB Kareem Huggins suffered a torn right ACL, other ligament damage, and a torn meniscus during October of 2010, and was placed on IR due to his injuries on October 19th. He was reported to be noticeably limping in early March (four months after his reconstructive knee surgery) - his status for 2011 is very much up in the air as of early April 2011. He was not tendered an offer in March - local reports on April 15th indicated that he tore up all the ligaments in his knee as well has tearing his meniscus - the team fears that he will never regain his top form due to the extensive damage.

He was placed on IR August 18th after clearing waivers. As of April 9th, 2011 he is reportedly well ahead of schedule in his rehabilitation - "I feel awesome, and I feel great about the opportunity ahead of me," Johnson said Thursday, April 7th, 2011. Johnson reportedly had a strong advocate in ex-coach Jeff Fisher, but he'll have to land a roster spot without Fisher during 2011.

Tennessee RB Javon Ringer has been battling a hip injury during training camp, but was expected to play in the team's second preseason game on Saturday, August 20th. However, Ringer missed the preseason game Saturday, August 20th, against the St. Louis Rams due to his hip ailment. Ringer also missed the third preseason game on August 27th due to his injury. As of August 30th, Ringer is likely to miss a third straight preseason game Thursday, September first, against the New Orleans Saints. Head coach Mike Munchak is confident Ringer's absence won't hurt going forward, though. 'If he's a rookie, I'd say maybe quite a bit,' Munchak said. 'But the fact he's been here and knows our systems and it hasn't changed that much.'

Ex-Washington RB Clinton Portis was placed on IR November 24th, 2010 due to an abdominal/groin injury that was surgically repaired shortly after he went on IR. Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan said on January 10th, 2011 that he did not know if RB Clinton Portis will still be a full-time running back in the aftermath of his surgery. Portis was released by the Redskins on February 28th, 2011 and is now a free agent.

Ex-Washington RB Chad Simpson was placed on IR Monday, November 22nd 2010 due to a foot injury (broken metacarpal bone).

Torain (hand) is out two weeks with the hand injury suffered in practice Wednesday, Aug. 3, according to updates on 8/4/11. He had screws placed in his fractured hand to stabilize his broken bone. Torain said on August 11th that he is doing well in his recovery from the broken hand and expects to return to practice soon. Torain visited a hand specialist Monday, August 15th. His status for returning to the field is dependent on the specialist's diagnosis. Torain had the cast on his broken hand taken off but did not participate in team drills during practice Wednesday, August 17th. Head coach Mike Shanahan said the target date for Torain's return is the final preseason game. Shanahan repeated his hope that Torain would play in the final preseason game on Saturday, August 27th. Torain fully participated in practice on Monday, August 29th and is on track for playing in the final preseason game.

WR

Ex- Arizona/Now-K.C. WR Steve Breaston played through a knee problem during 2011, but said on July 20th: 'I enjoy playing in Arizona, I enjoy it a lot,' Breaston said in a radio interview. 'I enjoy my teammates and I like living out there. I want to be there. There were a lot of issues about my knee, but I know I will be ready for the season.' Breaston was signed by Kansas City on July 27th. He is expected to work out of the slot for the team during 2011.

Arizona WR Early Doucet was placed on IR December 22nd, 2010 due to a hip injury. As of May 5th, 2011 Doucet was still dealing with offseason sports hernia surgery/rehabilitation and was not attending teammate Larry Fitzgerald's workouts. Doucet was reported to be making progress in his rehabilitation and did not want to try to do too much, too soon. Reports on August 19th indicated that the Cardinals may not have a true set #2 WR this season. While Andre Roberts is going to get his share of playing time, WR Early Doucet and others may be involved, too, as the Cardinals are likely to mix things up at the second starting spot opposite WR Larry Fitzgerald.

Arizona WR Stephen Williams fought through a "small fracture" in his back during the second half of 2010 - he did have two catches for 26 yards in the season finale on January 2nd, 2011. But back injuries are notoriously hard to rehabilitate - keep an eye on Williams' status once the team cuts down to the final 53-man roster.

Arizona rookie WR Demarco Sampson missed the 2006 and 2007 football seasons due to a serious foot injury (he had other injury woes and was granted a sixth year of college eligibility due to his string of injuries), and he's 25 years old as he enters the NFL. Sampson's most recent injury was a knee problem, but he did grab 67/1200/8 during the 2010 season at San Diego State.

Atlanta WR Harry Douglas is fully recovered from the knee injury he suffered last year, according to a local report on June 24th. Douglas looked explosive and ran well during June players-only workouts. Douglas had a big role during the second preseason game and his knee looks to be in great shape as of August 23rd. He has played well throughout preseason.

Atlanta WR Julio Jones was cleared to run Tuesday, May 17. He has already met with QB Matt Ryan and the wide receivers. Jones posted on his Twitter account that he had a checkup and everything went well. He had surgery on his foot (to correct a stress fracture) after the scouting combine, and is expected to be ready for training camp whenever that happens. Jones has been a regular at player-organized workouts during early June after being cleared to work out by a foot specialist. Everything looks positive as of mid-June as far as his foot is concerned. According to local reports on June 20th, Jones is establishing a good connection with veteran QB Matt Ryan. Sources say Jones has looked way ahead of the game and is getting plenty of coaching from Ryan after plays during the player workouts. Jones has been heavily involved in the passing game during the first three preseason games and it looks like the foot is not an issue as of August 30th.

Atlanta WR Kerry Meier was reported (on March 25th) to be ahead of schedule in his rehab from a torn anterior cruciate ligament. "Kerry has done an outstanding job with his rehabilitation," head coach Mike Smith said. "When we had our end-of-year physicals, Kerry was way ahead of schedule." Meier has been cleared to return to practice as of the start of training camp. He missed last season after suffering right knee injury in an exhibition game and landing on IR. Meier has played during the preseason and appears to be in the mix at WR for Atlanta as of August 30th.

Atlanta WR Roddy White did not participate in practice Sunday, August 21st, because of a minor thigh bruise he suffered in the second preseason game Friday, August 19th. White led the team with 8/101/1 receiving at Pittsburgh during the third week of preaseason.

Baltimore WR David Reed said on February 10th, 2011 that he would have the cast taken off his left wrist in two weeks and then it would be determined if he will need surgery on the wrist, or if his wrist had healed enough naturally. Reed remains on the physically-unable-to-perform (PUP) list as of 8/3/11, but he expects to return as soon as next week. He is making his way back from offseason surgery to repair a torn ligament in his left wrist. 'I'ts strong, it's real strong,' Reed said. 'I'll be back soon, probably like a week.' Reed was activated off the PUP list on Monday, August 15th.

Buffalo WR Kamar Aiken missed practice on Tuesday, August 16th due to an undisclosed injury.

Buffalo WR Craig Davis (chest injury) was unable to practice Tuesday, August 16th, and head coach Chan Gailey said he'll miss a week. Davis didn't play in the second preseason game Saturday, August 20th, against the Denver Broncos. He is still sidelined due to injury as of August 27th. Davis was released on September third, 2011 - his time in Buffalo (and likely the NFL) is now over.

Buffalo WR Marcus Easley had surgery to repair a left knee injury incurred during August 2010 - he was placed on IR August 23rd and didn't participate in regular season as a result. On May 21st, Easley was praised by teammate Steve Johnson, who said: "This dude Marcus Easley looks like a beast. He's big and he's fast and he still has all his speed. When he first came in (last year) he looked like a kid right out of college. Now he's comfortable with his routes. He's big and fluid in his routes. I want to see what he's about in preseason because he's looking real good." Easley indicated on June 29th that the knee injury he suffered during training camp last season has been fully healed since December. Easley suffered a hyperextended left knee during practice Saturday, July 30, and was not able to take part in practice Sunday, July 31. The Bills do not have a timetable for his return. Easley, a second-year receiver, missed his entire rookie season after having surgery on his left knee. He also missed practice on Monday, August first due to his sore knee, and was continuing to miss practice as of Saturday, August 6th. Easley played in the third preseason game on August 27th and hauled in 5/51/1 during the game.

Ex-Buffalo/Now-Baltimore WR Lee Evans was placed on IR December 14th, 2010 due to an ankle injury. Evans said on January 3rd, 2011 that he suffered a "normal" injury to the ankle (as opposed to a high ankle sprain as had been reported - MW). "I'm actually feeling all right. I'm getting around pretty good; don't need crutches or a boot or anything." Head coach Chan Gailey hopes that Evans will become a more all-around receiving threat during 2011 (comments made March 22nd) - he appears to be in the team's plans as of late March 2011.' Evans commented on May 24th: 'But you won't get it until you actually do it and do it consistently. I've done it at times, but you've got to be able to do it consistently. Try to be as complete as you can. That's my focus when I come out here to work out and to train, not just to be one-dimensional but to try to be able to do many different things because as far as the season you've got to have more than one way to win.' Evans (undisclosed injury) did not participate in practice Saturday, August 27th, and was on the sidelines with a walking boot on his left foot. Reports indicated that he wasn't limping noticeably, so hopefully this walking boot usage was due to a minor injury. Evans was not present during practice Monday, August 29th, but offensive coordinator Cam Cameron said he expects Evans to return to practice in the near future.

Baltimore Ravens WR James Hardy (hamstring) was missing at practice Tuesday, Aug. 2, due to tightness in his hamstring. Offensive coordinator Cam Cameron said that Hardy has some 'hamstring tightness, maybe some hamstring weakness.' Hardy finally returned to practice on Saturday, August 27th.

Buffalo WR Felton Huggins suffered an undisclosed leg injury during the second preseason game Saturday, August 20th.

Buffalo WR Donald Jones was held out of the season finale of 2010 due to a concussion - fantasy owners should be aware that once a player suffers a concussion they are more susceptible to a repeat injury. Unfortunately, Jones stayed on the ground for several minutes after taking a big hit on his chin during the team's preseason game against the Denver Broncos on August 20th. Head coach Chan Gailey said Jones was not seriously injured after taking the shot to his chin. However, Jones is reportedly expected to miss the remainder of the preseason due to a head injury. Jones asserts he feels fine, and is not suffering any post-concussion symptoms - but he'll miss the two remaining preseason games anyway. Jones didn't play on August 27th due to the injury, but he did return to practices on Monday, August 29th.

Buffalo WR Roscoe Parrish was placed on IR November 10th, 2010, due to a wrist injury that required surgically inserted pins to repair. He had the pins removed in January 2011, and was working on rebuilding strength in the wrist as of February 7th, 2011. He should be ready to play ball when training camp in training camp. Unfortunately, Parrish left practice Wednesday, August 10th, with a left leg injury, and he has been ruled out for the team's first preseason game Saturday, Aug. 13, against the Chicago Bears. Coach Chan Gailey indicated that Parrish will be out for an 'extended' period of time. As of August 23rd, Parrish is still missing practices. He sat out the third preseason game on August 27th as expected. Parrish returned to practice on Monday, August 29th.

Buffalo WR Naaman Roosevelt had a player roll up on his ankle during the second preseason game Saturday, August 20th. He said his ankle was sore after the game. Carolina rookie WR Kealoha Pilares suffered a partially torn PCL in the Hawaii Bowl game, but no surgery was required. He put up 88/1306/15 receiving during 2010 despite missing two games during the season. Pilares has been practicing and playing in preseason games during August – his PCL injury appears to be a thing of the past as of August 23rd. However, Pilares suffered a high ankle sprain in the team's preseason finale on September first, and is out four-to-six weeks. Panthers general manager Marty Hurney said he doesn't expect that Pilares will have to go on Injured Reserve. He is estimated to be out four to six weeks with a high ankle sprain, although Pilares thinks he'll be ready before that.

Chicago WR Devin Hester did not practice on Monday August 29th due to an undisclosed injury.

Chicago WR Sam Hurd did not practice on Monday, August 29th due to an ankle injury.

Ex-Cincinnati/Now FA WR Terrell Owens had knee surgery on December 20th, 2010 to repair torn meniscus cartilage in his left knee - he was placed on IR December 21st, 2010. Owens is not expected to be with the Bengals during 2011 as that team shifts into rebuilding mode on offense. Owens also has undergone surgery to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament in one of his knees following a previously undisclosed injury this offseason. Owens had the surgery performed by renowned Dr. James Andrews (sometime during June 2011). Agent Drew Rosenhaus previously said Owens could be ready physically by the start of training camp, although that time-frame was aggressively optimistic. Owens said on August 17th that doctors have told him he is way ahead of schedule in his rehab from a torn anterior cruciate ligament, which he had surgery to repair a little over four months ago. He said he has not talked to any teams about a contract but will be ready a few weeks into the season to join a team. He said he still believes he can produce for a team even after the injury.

Cleveland WR Joshua Cribbs tweaked his hamstring during practice Sunday, August 21st. Cribbs said the injury is just a minor setback. Cribbs did not take part in practice Monday, August 22nd. Cribbs finally returned to practice on Monday, August 29th.

Cleveland WR Mohamed Massaquoi started training camp on Saturday, 7/30/11, in a walking boot. "[Massaquoi has] a little foot deal that he came in with and we're going to evaluate that as we go and make sure he's right when we get him on the field," said coach Pat Shurmur. Massaquoi is beginning camp on the non-football injury list but can begin practicing at any time. As of Saturday, August 6th Massaquoi is still missing practices. Massaquoi continues to be sidelined with a foot injury as of Monday, August 8th, and as a result his roster spot could be in jeopardy, according to local reports. WRs Greg Little, Jordan Norwood and Carlton Mitchell have all had strong camps to date. On Monday, head coach Pat Shurmur revealed starting wide receiver Mohamed Massaquoi has an injured bone in his left leg, and not "a little foot deal". Massaquoi missed practice on August 9th. Massaquoi was expected to resume practicing during the week of August 15-19. He did not catch a pass in the third preseason game at Philadelphia.

Cleveland WR Carlton Mitchell will be out for a few weeks with a surgically repaired finger as of August 22nd.

Dallas WR Dez Bryant was jogging and doing some motion drills under the supervision of a trainer as of March second (before the NFL lockout began). He was not expected to be able to run at full speed for another three to five weeks - as of early April, he will likely begin testing his rehabbed fractured fibula/ankle injury by running, though team trainers are not available to assess his condition. Bryant said on July 15th that he still has not been medically cleared yet to practice but expects to be cleared once the team sends him to the doctor (which can only happen after the lockout is over and a new CBA is in place). As of July 29th it was reported that Bryant is fully healthy as of the beginning of training camp. He has shown no lingering issues from the injury as of August 23rd.

Dallas WR Kevin Ogletree went on IR Wednesday, December 15th due to a toe injury (dislocated right big toe) and a corrective toe surgery that was performed the next day. As of July 30th, Ogletree is competing for the fourth spot on the Cowboys' WR depth chart.

Denver WR Jamel Hamler (back injury) was placed on IR September third, 2011.

Denver WR Brandon Lloyd left practice Tuesday, August 9th, because of swelling in his knee. He had 2/32/0 vs. Seattle in the third preseason contest.

Denver WR Eddie Royal participated in the player-organized conditioning session Monday, May 23rd. Royal underwent hip surgery back in February and was expected to be back in action by mid May. Royal participated in the player-organized conditioning session Monday, May 23rd. Mid-June reports indicated that Royal would be more involved in the Denver attack this year due to the ongoing rehabilitation of fellow WR Demaryius Thomas' torn Achilles (see below). Royal said he is 'ready to go' for the upcoming season after running routes Thursday, July 21st. 'I will not miss a day of practice,' Royal said. Royal hauled in 4/62/0 in the third preseason game vs. Seattle.

Denver WR Demaryius Thomas had surgery on Monday, February 14th, 2011 to repair a torn Achilles' tendon. He is expected to be in rehabilitation for six-to-eight months before beginning football activities - Thomas may miss the 2011 season, depending on how well (or poorly) his rehabilitation goes during the spring and summer. As of April 7th, 2011 the Broncos hope to have Thomas back at the midpoint of next season. Mid-October, eight months removed from surgery would be a possible return date, if his rehabilitation goes very well. Denver Broncos' general manager Brian Xanders said on May 3rd, 2011 that Thomas is expected to begin the season on the Physically Unable to Perform list and be unavailable until at least midseason. Thomas (Achilles') has been cleared to practice and will join his teammates in the upcoming week as of September third, 2011. He suffered a torn Achilles' tendon less than seven months ago. Thomas will be under close supervision of the team's training staff as he works himself into football shape. He will begin his work on the scout team while he works his way back.

Denver WR Matt Willis was placed on IR October 19th, 2010 due to a broken foot. He is still with the team as of August 23rd.

Detroit WR Nate Burleson said on June eighth that he will be undergoing minor surgery to have fluid drained and a bursa sac removed from his elbow. Burleson fully participated in practices on the first day of training camp (7/30/11) and appears to be fully recovered from the surgical procedure. Burleson has played during the preseason games, but missed practice on Tuesday, August 30th due to soreness in the elbow.

Detroit WR Calvin Johnson missed grabbing any footballs during the 2010 season finale due to an ankle injury. He should be ready for the 2011 training camp whenever that occurs, though, after many months of rest for his sore joint. Johnson said on May 25th that he expects WR Titus Young to help keep his legs fresh because Young will take some of Johnson's reps during practice - allowing Johnson to rest. Johnson suffered a bruised shoulder in the first preseason game and missed practice on Sunday, August 14th, but the team isn't concerned about the minor injury. He also sat out of practice on August 23rd. Johnson played in the third preseason game (1/30/0 receiving).

Detroit WR Derrick Williams was placed on IR December 10th, 2010 due to an ankle injury. He caught just three passes for 30 yards during 2010, and is in jeopardy of not making the team during 2011. He said on May 31st: "Hopefully, when I get my opportunities, I can capitalize on them. I just hope I get those opportunities to show what I can do." Williams is still with the team as of August 23rd. He had 3/32/1 in the third preseason game vs. New England.

Detroit WR Titus Young (tweaked hamstring) is participating in practice Sunday, August 20th. Young did not re-injure his hamstring during practice Monday, August 22nd. Head coach Jim Schwartz said Young left practice because they have been monitoring his reps and stopped when he hit a certain number. Young had one catch for 19 yards in the third preseason game.

Green Bay WR Randall Cobb did not practice on Monday, August 22nd, due to his sore knees. Head coach Mike McCarthy would not say on August 23rd if WR Randall Cobb will be able to play in Week one of regular season after suffering bruises to both knees during the preseason. Cobb said he is day-to-day at this point and is trying to get healthy.

Green Bay WR Greg Jennings did not practice Friday, August 5th, due to a hip flexor injury. However, Jennings had two receptions for 24 yards and a touchdown in limited action during the preseason game Friday, August 19th and appears to be past the sore hip.

Green Bay WR Jordy Nelson reported on June 10th, 2011 that the ruptured bursa sac in his knee that he suffered during Super Bowl XLV has fully healed and he has been able to work out after taking two months off. "It's been fine," said Nelson on June 14th. "It was just a matter of time for the body to absorb all the swelling. I ruptured my bursa sac. I pretty much just popped a bubble full of fluid and it swelled up really bad. It's not preventing me from doing anything." Nelson will not be limited during training camp practices according to local reports on July 31st, 2011.

Green Bay Shaky Smithson (undisclosed injury) was placed on IR September third.

Ex-Houston WR Andre' Davis was placed on IR September 3rd, 2010 due to a tailbone/hip injury. He had surgery to repair the injury in mid-September. Davis was released February 18th, 2011 as his 2011 salary of $4.7 million was far too high for player with just 19 receptions over the past three NFL seasons. He hasn't found a new NFL home as of August 5, 2011.

Houston WR Trindon Holliday was placed on IR August 30th, 2010 due to ligament damage in his thumb. He has yet to play a down in the regular season, and was considered a raw WR prospect (at best) before his injury. He is still with the team as of August 23rd. Holliday was waived on September third.

Houston WR Andre Johnson, who played through an ankle injury for most of 2010 after suffering the injury in week two, missed the final games of 2010 and had arthroscopic surgery on the joint in the first week of January 2011, in order to repair the damage. He is expected to be 100% healthy by the time training camp rolls around. On April 25th, 2011 he received full medical clearance to begin football activities - "I started (training) a little later this year because of a little ankle surgery that I had. That’s pretty much it, but (the lockout) hasn’t changed anything as far as me training. I just got cleared by the doctor, but that’s the only thing that has held me back a little bit." Johnson dislocated his left index finger during a Tuesday 8/2/11 morning practice, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. Johnson was reportedly running a slant route in an individual drill and leaped to catch a pass, with rookie cornerback Rashad Carmichael defending. Johnson couldn't make the catch and came down shaking his left hand. He took off his glove, his finger was bleeding and he walked to the sideline, where a trainer examined him. The team isn't sure of the extent of the injury: "We're getting it looked at," head coach Gary Kubiak said. "I've got a big lump in my throat like everybody else, but hopefully, he'll be fine." The team expects Johnson to miss just a few days as this turned out to be a minor injury. However, Johnson was reportedly suffering from a stomach flu bug that has spread throughout the Texans' training camp as of August fifth. Johnson participated in practice Sunday, August 7th, and made several nice catches during practice. Johnson was held out of the preseason opener on Monday Night Football 8/15/11 for precautionary reasons. He practiced on Saturday, August 13th without the splint on his finger and indicated after the practice that his finger felt 'pretty good'. Johnson was able to make his preseason debut Saturday, August 20th, against the New Orleans Saints. He had four receptions for 100 yards, including a 48-yard catch. He looks to be good to go as of August 23rd. He had 4/57/0 receiving at San Francisco during week three of the preseason.

Houston WR Terrence Toliver (undisclosed injury) was placed on IR September third.

Indianapolis WR Austin Collie appeared in nine games during 2010 - his season was disrupted by a series of three serious concussions suffered during 2010. Once a player suffers one concussion, that player is more prone to repeat injuries of this sort - fantasy owners should be wary about over-valuing Collie heading into the 2011 season. Collie commented on July 7, 2011. 'You don't want things like that popping up in your mind. I try to ignore any thought I do have of it. I don't want to watch it. People want to show me and ask how I felt during that time and whatnot. I just kind of brush it aside because it is one of those things that it is in the past and it's unfortunate. I was unlucky, but I'm just looking forward to this next season and getting on with it,' Collie said. On July 29th Collie was cleared to resume football activities by the Colts' training staff. Reports out of Indianapolis on August 12th indicated that Collie hasn't had any issues with concussion after-effects during training camp, a good sign for him. He did skip practice on Monday, August 15th to have a knee examined by trainers (unrelated to his concussion woes, obviously). Collie remained sidelined for practice Tuesday, August 16th due to the sore knee. He missed the third preseason game on August 26th due to continuing issues with the sore knee.

Indianapolis WR Anthony Gonzalez suffered a PCL injury in his knee during week eight of the regular season (after sitting out most of the year due to a high ankle sprain suffered earlier in the year) - he was finally placed on IR due to the knee injury on Saturday, November 6th, 2010. All told, he has played in three games over the past two years due to injury issues, and has recorded five catches during that span of time (for 67 yards). Gonzalez (hamstring injury during training camp), after he missed practice time earlier in the week due to a hamstring issue, was able to play in the preseason game Friday, August 19th, against the Washington Redskins. He did not record any offensive statistics, though. Gonzalez was inactive on Friday, August 26th due to continuing problems with this hamstring. He may be on the roster bubble, folks. On August 31st, Gonzalez (hamstring injury) said he understands there is a chance he will not make the final roster. Gonzalez said his injury history likely would contribute to the team’s choice to release him if they decide to make that move. The team could save around $1 million in salary cap space if they released Gonzalez.

Jacksonville WR Jarett Dillard was placed on IR in September of 2010 due to a stress fracture in his foot. He didn't need a surgery, but Dillard missed the entire 2010 season due to the injury. He has six receptions for 106 yards in his two-year NFL career to date. As of August 23rd, Dillard is in the mix to be the third wide receiver for the Jaguars during 2011. He seems to be past the stress fracture.

Ex-Jacksonville WR Nate Hughes suffered a torn labrum in his shoulder during August of 2010 and was placed on IR after the injury. His status for 2011 is unknown - Hughes has five receptions for 70 yards and one TD over his two-year pro career. Hughes has been released by Jacksonville and hasn't signed with a new team as of 8/5/11.

Kansas City WR Jonathan Baldwin has been slowed by a hamstring injury early in training camp. Baldwin was expected to return to the practice field soon (as of August 6th). However, Baldwin injured his wrist during a locker room altercation with RB Thomas Jones on August 18th. Baldwin is expected to miss the rest of the preseason. He had a cast on his hand during practice on Sunday, August 21st.

Kansas City WR/RB Dexter McCluster suffered a high ankle sprain that caused McCluster to miss five games in the middle of the season, and he reportedly didn't have the same quickness and speed after returning to action. "The injury really brought me down," he said on May 19th, 2011. "But I kept working at it. I've been injured before, so I went back out there and I wasn't timid. I was running and cutting and doing it the same way I'd been doing it. I won't say I was actually back to what I was but I wasn't scared to try to play." McCluster has been participating in practices since training camp opened.

Kansas City WR Jerheme Urban landed on IR September 4th, 2010 due to a torn flexor tendon in his right ring finger. The recovery timetable at the time of his injury was 10-12 weeks. He participated in offseason player workouts with Matt Cassel and is in the mix for a reserve role on the K.C. WR depth chart. As of August 23rd, Urban is listed as the second wide receiver on Footballguys.com's depth chart – he is past the finger injury.

Miami WR Patrick Carter missed the third preseason game on August 27th due to a knee injury.

Miami WR Brandon Marshall was reported to be recovered from abdominal surgery as of May 15th, 2011 after being stabbed by his wife during the offseason. He was expected to begin running by the end of May, and was reported to be fully recovered from the stab wound as of May 25th. On July 30th Marshall disclosed that he was diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder, which explains his relationship troubles and impulse control issues. He said that he has been undergoing treatment and therapy for the mental problem. Miami QB Chad Henne said on Thursday, August 4, 2011 that Marshall has been having a great training camp. He noted Marshall is working really hard on the field and being a good team player. Marshall has participated fully in training camp and appears past his abdominal injury.

Miami WR Brian Hartline was placed on IR December 11th, 2010 due to surgery to repair a finger injury suffered during week 13 of the 2010 regular season. On or about March 29th, head coach Tony Sparano said that Hartline should be the team's deep threat receiver during 2011 - he is apparently still in the team's plans as of April 2011. Hartline said on June second, while discussing the NFL lockout's impact on his team: 'We'll probably need a little extra time. We can function on the level where the fan, and the average eye, might not understand. But the comfort in the huddle, and kind of being on the exact same page, is going to take a little longer time.' Hartline had just one grab in the preseason opener Friday, August 12th, against the Atlanta Falcons, but it went for a 44-yard touchdown.

Minnesota WR Greg Camarillo was unable to play in the preseason game on August 20th due to a sore groin. Camarillo returned to practice on Monday, August 22nd.

Minnesota WR Percy Harvin reports that he is finally migraine-free: 'This is the best I've felt, probably, since I've been in kindergarten,' Harvin said on June 17th. He said he's found long-term relief from a health issue that has dogged him since childhood, but didn't elaborate. Harvin is the favorite to be the team's #1 WR this year due to the departure of Sidney Rice to Seattle during free agency in the last week of July. Harvin was held out of part of practice Monday, August 8th, because he was winded and dealing with sore ribs. Head coach Leslie Frazier is reportedly not worried about the injury, though. However, Harvin (ribs) did not participate in practice Wednesday, August 17th, because of continuing problems with his sore ribs. He will not play in the preseason game Saturday, August 20th, if he does not practice Thursday, August 18th. Harvin didn't play in the game on the 20th due to his sore ribs. Harvin returned to practice on Monday, August 22nd. He had 4/29/0 receiving vs. Dallas on August 27th.

New England WR Wes Welker said he was fine after the game on Saturday, August 27th - Welker had apparently injured his neck during the game, but he didn't have a brace on after the contest and asserted 'Yeah, I'm OK' when asked about the issue. On Tuesday, August 30th, head coach Bill Belichick said he was uncertain if WR Wes Welker would be ready to start the season. Belichick (with his usual evasiveness about injuries) added the injury reports do not have to be out until the first week of the season. Welker was on the practice field Thursday, September first, which is a clear sign the neck injury he suffered won't keep him down long, if at all.

New Orleans Saints WRs Adrian Arrington and Jarred Fayson are battling ankle injuries, and the ailment has forced them off the practice field as of August 10th. Arrington returned to practice Sunday, August 14th, after missing the past four sessions. Arrington was able to play in the preseason game Saturday, August 20th, against the Houston Texans. He had a pair of receptions for 23 yards.

New Orleans' WR Marques Colston underwent microfracture surgery on his knee after the season was over, but was reportedly training at full speed as of May 12th, 2011. We'll see how the knee holds up once full contact practices begin. 'I'm doing everything now. It's just about getting my conditioning back,' Colston said on May 13th. Colston was reported to be fully recovered by local sources on July 22nd. Note, however, that Colston has had five knee surgeries and there are legitimate concerns about him being able to play a full slate of 16 games this season. Colston said on August third he is moving around pretty well and his body feels good. He said the biggest thing he needs to do now is regain his timing with QB Drew Brees, which he noted will come with the reps of training camp. 'I'm feeling really good about where I'm at right now,' Colston said. However, Colston has missed five of six days of practice with a sore right knee as of Wednesday August 10th. The sore knee is the one that got operated on during the offseason. Colston returned to practice on Sunday, August 14th. Colston made his preseason debut Saturday, August 20th, against the Houston Texans, but he had just one reception for three yards. Colston posted 3/28/0 receiving at Oakland on August 28th.

New Orleans WR Robert Meachem underwent ankle surgery after the season but was reportedly training at full speed as of May 12th, 2011. He is in a contract season during 2011. Meachem was reported to be fully recovered from his ankle surgery by local sources on July 22nd. However, Meachem suffered a lower back strain during the team's preseason game Friday, August 12th. He sustained the injury when he took a big hit during the game. Meachem hauled in 3/61/0 receiving at Oakland on August 28th.

New Orleans' WR Joseph Morgan (knee injury) was placed on IR September third, 2011.

New York Giants' WR Ramses Barden is reported to be ready for training camp as of April sixth - he was placed on IR November 16th, 2010 due to an ankle injury. Barden sat out most of the player-organized workouts during the second week of June 2011, because he is still rehabbing from knee surgery he had in March of this year. Barden is reported to be in no hurry to rush back from the ankle surgery. As of August 8th, Barden remains on the physically-unable-to-perform list.

New York Giants' WR Victor Cruz is reported to be ready for training camp as of April sixth - Cruz was placed on IR October 16th, 2010 due to a torn hamstring. Cruz got the start in the preseason game Monday, August 22nd, against the Chicago Bears. He made a nice 21-yard catch on a fourth-down play, and he finished with 40 yards on three grabs. He appears to be past the torn hamstring as of late August.

New York Giants' WR Hakeem Nicks said on May 5th, 2911 that he is completely healed from the leg, ankle and toe injuries he dealt with the past season. Giants QB Eli Manning worked out with WRs Hakeem Nicks and Jerrel Jernigan during the third week in June, according to local reports. Nicks played briefly in the second preseason game August 22nd, posting one reception for -1 yards.

New York Giants' WR Domenik Hixon is reported to be ready for training camp as of April sixth - he tore his right ACL during June of 2010. Hixon was re-signed to a one year deal on March 3rd, 2011, and commented on March fifth: "I feel real comfortable, I feel strong. I'm back doing everything full speed." Hixon said on June 10th that the torn anterior cruciate ligament he suffered last offseason has completely healed and he expected to be cleared to practice once training camp began. Hixon, who is coming back from a torn anterior cruciate ligament, got the first crack at third wide receiver in the preseason opener Saturday, August 13th, against the Carolina Panthers. He had five catches for 86 yards, and added 2/13/1 receiving on August 22nd vs. the Chicago Bears. Nicks led the team in receiving vs. NYJ on Monday, August 29th with 5/71/0 receiving.

New York Giants' WR Darius Reynaud was inactive for much of the final weeks of 2010 due to a hamstring injury - however, he signed a contract extension Thursday, March third 2011 and appears set to compete for a roster spot with the Giants this season. Reports on August 8th indicated that Reynaud has shown a lot of improvement so far during the 2011 training camp. However, he missed practice on Wednesday, August 17th due to a sore hamstring, and he didn't record a catch in the second preseason game on August 22nd. Reynaud was inactive for the third preseason game due to his hamstring injury.

New York Giants WR Devin Thomas didn't practice on August 8th due to a finger injury. However, Thomas had kick returns of 33, 73 and 32 yards in the first half of the preseason game Monday, August 22nd, against the Chicago Bears.

New York Jets WR Plaxico Burress 'tweaked' an ankle working out on his own, according to head coach Rex Ryan on August fourth - he'll be out of practice for a day or two. As of 8/4/11 the injury is considered 'minor', though any loss of reps is problematic for Burress after two years away from the game. Burress is still dealing with the ankle injury as of Thursday, August 11th. Burress did not play in the preseason opener Monday, August 15th, against the Houston Texans, but he did say he will return to a full practice Wednesday, August 17th. Burress did participating in the walkthrough Wednesday, August 17th, but was working mostly with the second-team offense. Burress played well in the second preseason game with 3/66/1 - his ankle seems to be better as of August 21st.

NYJ WR Derrick Mason missed the second preseason game on August 21st due to a sore knee. He posted 2/9/0 receiving vs. NYG on August 29th.

Oakland WR Jacoby Ford suffered a broken hand over the last weekend in July and he'll be out at least two weeks due to the injury. Ford is no longer wearing a protective sleeve on his broken left hand, but the hand remained swollen as of Monday, August 15th and he has a sizable surgical scar. Ford was back at practice Monday, August 22nd, for the first time since breaking his left hand. He is expected to be held out of the final preseason game for precautionary reasons.

Oakland WR Darrius Heyward-Bey has missed the first five practice sessions due to an undisclosed injury. Head coach Hue Jackson said Monday, August 1st, that he thinks things are fine, but Heyward-Bey is missing out on the precious few practice reps available during 2011. Heyward-Bey (undisclosed) was able to practice Wednesday, Aug. 3, for the first time since training camp opened. He missed the first five sessions due to an undisclosed ailment. However, he has yet to be cleared for all drills, including seven-on-seven drills and full-team scrimmages, due to an undisclosed reason. Heyward-Bey is only partially participating in practices as of August 7th. Heyward-Bey finally went through a full practice Monday, August 8th. He has participated in practices and preseason games since then.

Oakland WR Derrick Jones tore his Achilles tendon during practice in the first week of August and is out for the 2011 season.

Oakland WR Louis Murphy had surgery for an undisclosed ailment during the week of August 15-19, and he won't be able to play in the team's regular season opener Sept. 12. Murphy had missed most of training camp due to a hamstring injury, but it's uncertain the surgery is related to that injury.

Oakland WR Chaz Schilens hurt his knee on a second-quarter reverse on 8/11/2011 and will be evaluated 8/12/11. Head coach Hue Jackson was fairly optimistic about Schilens' injury. "He was walking around in the locker room, but we'll have to wait and make sure," he said.

Philadelphia WR Jason Avant (knee) left the team's preseason game Thursday, August 18th, with knee tendinitis. The injury is not thought to be serious. He did participate in practice on Monday, August 22nd.

Philadelphia WR Jeremy Maclin is out of training camp due to an unspecified illness. Maclin's brother, Andre Maclin, said on August 15th that Maclin is fine and that more about his condition will be known Tuesday, August 16th. Andre Maclin said he believes that his brother will be able to play this season. Jeremy Maclin said he has been cleared to play this season after undergoing tests for lymphoma the last few months. He underwent a procedure to remove some of his lymph nodes last week (all tests for cancer came back negative) and expects to return once he is completely recovered from the procedure. No timetable for his return has been offered as of mid-August. "It was all caused by an inflammatory virus," Maclin said on August 17th, "something that just runs its course through your body or you can treat with medicine. I didn’t need medicine. It’s just something I had to deal with." Maclin will reportedly return to practice within 10 days as of August 18th and is expected to be ready for the team's season opener against the St. Louis Rams September 11th. Maclin was limited in practices Saturday, August 27th according to local reports.

Ex-NYG/Now-Philadelphia WR Steve Smith underwent left knee surgery on Tuesday, December 21st 2010 to repair articular cartilage damage. The procedure was a type of microfracture surgery and may keep Smith off the playing field until well into June (assuming that there are any football training camps in June). The Giants put a second-round tender on Smith March 1st, 2011, to protect him on their roster. Reports on July 25th indicated that Smith could start the season on the Physically Unable to Perform list because he is coming back from knee surgery. He'd miss at least the first six weeks of the season in the PUP list scenario. Reports at the opening of training camp suggest he's out for at least another four weeks - he'll miss training camp, most likely. On August 10th, the Eagles revealed that Smith (who they signed away from the Giants) might be able to return by mid-October, according to sources familiar with Smith's rehab. The Eagles have a bye in Week 7, which aligns with the physically-unable-to-perform (PUP) list (six games) rule. Smith was placed on the PUP list by the Eagles on August 12th, but they hope he'll be off there by the start of regular season, according to reports on August 13th. Smith was limited during practice Saturday, August 27th, but said he believes he can play week one of regular season if he does not have any setbacks. He did also add that his knee will not be fully healthy for another four to six weeks, though.

Ex-New York Jets'/Now-Pittsburgh WR Jerricho Cotchery underwent back surgery February 3rd, 2011. Cotchery played with a painful herniated disk throughout the 2010 season. Cotchery said the condition worsened in October, causing shooting pain down his leg and into his foot. "It wasn't a good feeling," Cotchery said on March 24th. "It was pretty painful. I wouldn't want any football player to have to go through that." Cotchery expects to be ready to play football when training camp opens. As of April 29th, Cotchery had resumed jogging and said he was "pleased with the pace of his rehab". Cotchery was reportedly making progress from the back surgery as of June 1st, 2011, but noted that he misses the comfort level of rehabbing at the team's facility. Cotchery was released by the team on August fourth, 2011. Cotchery was subsequently signed by Pittsburgh and he played well in the second preseason game vs. Philadelphia, managing two receptions during the contest (2/49/1 receiving), but he missed the third contest due to a sore hamstring.

Pittsburgh WR Emmanuel Sanders, coming off offseason surgery on both of his feet, has resumed running as of June 21st in his workouts with a private trainer. He'll reportedly be running at full speed in two weeks and should be more than ready by the time training camp starts. "Honestly, I think I can run full speed right now. They just want to make sure it's 100 percent." Sanders said. However, Sanders said on 8/2/11 that he will miss three weeks with a foot injury. His foot is in a walking boot. Sanders was no longer in the walking boot after having foot surgery as of August 7th. He is still expected to miss around three weeks, though. Sanders has returned to individual workouts as of August 26th - but not team drills in practice. Reports on Tuesday, August 30th indicate that Sanders may test his foot in the final preseason game: 'Right now we're trying to get calcium to build up,' Sanders said of his time off since an early-camp medical procedure. 'I'm getting more reps (in practice).'

Pittsburgh WR Limas Sweed was placed on IR May 11th, 2010 due to Achilles tendon surgery. He was expected to be out up to six months after the surgery. On February 23rd, 2011, head coach Mike Tomlin said Sweed is still a part of the team's plans but will have to compete for a roster spot during 2011. As of early June, the team was expecting to keep Sweed on the roster for the beginning of training camp to see if he was able to compete for a 53-man roster spot. Sweed is very much on the bubble as of July 5th, 2011. Sweed suffered a sprained shoulder during practice Saturday, August 6th. The Pittsburgh Steelers have waived Sweed as of August 17th.

Pittsburgh WR Hines Ward said on Monday, April 11th 2011 that his time on Dancing with the Stars was helping him rehabilitate his surgically repaired knee: "I'm getting in shape, staying in shape," said Ward. "This is great rehab. I'm not sliding on the floor or anything or jumping up and down. I'm not going to do any crazy stuff like that. This is actually helping my footwork." Ward had the arthroscopic surgery in mid-February. Ward was scheduled to undergo a separate thumb surgery on May 31st to repair ligament damage. "My health is good. Feel good and I'm ready to start the season. I feel like a doctor on call, and I'm ready to go. I'm ready to go out there and compete and hopefully make another run at the Super Bowl." Ward said on June 16th. However, Ward was placed on the PUP list to begin training camp on July 28th due to his still-rehabbing thumb. Ward said on Sunday August 7th that he plans on coming off the Physically Unable to Perform list Monday, August 8th, and to participate in practice. After playing in the third preseason game, Ward missed the practice on Monday, August 29th due to a quadriceps injury.

St. Louis Rams WR Danario Alexander said on May 24th that his knee is doing very well since undergoing surgery during the season and is working out this offseason. 'I've been working out and training throughout this whole offseason to be a hundred percent for the season,' Alexander said. 'It's a lot better than it was during the season. Everything's coming back like it's supposed to.' QB Sam Bradford said Alexander has looked quicker and more explosive during offseason workouts than he did during the season. However, Alexander seemed to be having trouble with his left leg during player workouts on May 31st, according to local reports. The left knee has been surgically repaired five times and may be a concern for Alexander again during 2011. The early indications on his status for 2011 are a mixture of good and bad news, as you can see. Alexander reportedly attended a workout with Philadelphia Eagles QB Mike Kafka and WR Jeremy Maclin Thursday, June 2nd - he continues to work at beginning the season healthy. Alexander (knee) had just one reception for 15 yards in the preseason game Saturday, August 20th, against the Tennessee Titans. He appears to be on the roster bubble as of August 23rd. As of the 23rd, Alexander has decided against arthroscopic surgery to clean out his left knee - he will continue fight through the swelling he has been having in the knee. Alexander played in the preseason game vs. Kansas City on Friday, August 26th.

St. Louis WR Donnie Avery suffered a torn ACL in his right knee on Friday, August 27th, 2010, and was placed on IR. He is reportedly progressing well in his rehabilitation: "Donnie Avery looks great," head coach Steve Spagnuolo said on March 27th, 2011. Spagnuolo added that Avery has really taken a step forward to get his body ready to play. However, local reports on May first indicated that Avery may not be in the team's plans under new OC Josh McDaniels. Avery said on May 26th, 2011 that he is 'a good 92-93 percent' recovered from surgery to repair the torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee. A local report on May 31st stated that Avery appears to have his speed back after the rehab for his torn ACL. Avery posted on his official Twitter page that he finished the week Friday, June 17, with a track workout. He said he clocked a 22 in the 200-meter, and a 4.4 in the 40-yard dash. On July 15th, Avery reported via Twitter that he ran 40's timed in at 4.25, 4.29, and 4.31. Despite all of Avery's July tweets, he's been unable to practice in camp and was still sitting out of practices as of Monday, August 15th. Avery did play in the second preseason game on August 20th, running with the second string (2/23/1 receiving). He also played in the preseason game vs. Kansas City on Friday, August 26th. Unfortunately, Avery was released on Saturday, September third - his time with the Rams is over barring unforeseen circumstances arising.

Ex-St. Louis WR Mark Clayton suffered a season-ending torn right patella tendon in his knee on Sunday, October 10th, 2010. As of March 26th, Clayton was reportedly not fully healed from the injury, but he is expected to be ready to play by the start of regular season - the team is expected to re-sign him if possible. Clayton said on June 29th that his knee feels wonderful at this point and noted that he had recently worked out with QB Sam Bradford. However, head coach Steve Spagnuolo said on 7/31/11 that the knee is not ready after a 2010 patellar tendon tear. Clayton remains unsigned. Clayton was re-signed by St. Louis on Wednesday, August 31st and then subsequently placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list. The team has to decide by September third if they will leave him on that list for six weeks or if they'll activate him to start the season. He was left on PUP September third and will miss at least six weeks of the regular season.

St. Louis WR Dominique Curry suffered a season-ending torn right ACL on September 27th, 2010. Curry's injury woes continue in 2011 - he will need surgery to repair a fractured hand. Head coach Steve Spagnuolo said Friday, August 5th, that pins will be inserted rather than plates, making for a quicker recovery.

St. Louis practice squad WR Brandon McRae suffered a broken fibula during practice on November 4th, 2010.

St. Louis WR Greg Salas missed practice Friday, August 5th, due to a tender hamstring. Salas returned to practices on Monday, August 15th. Salas played in the preseason game vs. Kansas City on Friday, August 26th.

San Diego WR Patrick Crayton missed all the games following week 11 of the 2010 season due to a wrist injury that didn't heal well enough to permit him to play football. This year, Crayton is going under the knife for an arthroscopic ankle surgery (to remove bone spurs in his ankle) - he's expected to be out about two weeks as of August 23rd.

San Diego rookie WR Vincent Brown (quadriceps injury) did not practice again Sunday, August 7th, causing concern he may be falling behind. Head coach Norv Turner wasn't too worried at that point, as he noted Brown spent a lot of time working out with QB Philip Rivers during the offseason. Brown (quadriceps) has progressed to running on a side field during practice as of Wednesday, August 17th, which means he is progressing from the strained quadriceps suffered on the second day of training camp. Brown (hamstring) was able to return to a full practice Tuesday, August 23rd. 'He's way behind,' head coach Norv Turner said. 'He's got a lot of work to do to get to where he's on the same page with everyone on the offensive football team.'

San Diego WR Malcom Floyd suffered a concussion during the preseason game on August 21st, and was held out of the rest of the contest as a result. Head coach Norv Turner said Monday, August 22nd, that WR Malcom Floyd is 'fine' after suffering a concussion in the preseason game Sunday, August 21st, against the Dallas Cowboys. He posted 5/52/1 receiving at Arizona on August 27th.

Ex-San Diego/Now-Carolina WR Legedu Naanee struggled with a nagging hamstring injury during the final month of 2010, and he was not tendered an offer from the team in March. He is also dealing with legal troubles extending from a public intoxication/resisting arrest incident in Indianapolis on February 14th, 2011. Naanee was signed by Carolina on August fourth, 2011. He has particpated in preseason practices and games, but has yet to post any significant statistics with the Panthers.

San Francisco WR Michael Crabtree stayed on the sidelines during late-June player workouts due to a sore left foot. According to a teammate, this is the same foot which required surgery to correct a stress fracture prior to the 2009 NFL Draft. He was observed on the sidelines June 29th following scripted plays from a playbook, but he didn't take any reps. Crabtree did not participate in the workouts as a precaution, according to local reports as of July 18th. We learned on July 28th that Crabtree's foot injury is more serious than originally portrayed - it could cost him all of preseason: Crabtree reportedly has a foot injury that will cost him four-to-six weeks, which means that he could miss all of preseason for the third straight year. Crabtree was 'encouraged' with his progress Monday, August 15th. He was moving around without the aid of his walking boot Monday. Crabtree caught more than 20 passes during warmups Monday, August 29th, but is still on the Physically Unable to Perform list.

San Francisco WR Dominique Zeigler went on the Injured Reserve list Tuesday, Nov. 30, with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. Usually, it takes a year or so for this type of injury to heal completely - Zeigler's status for 2011 isn't clear as of mid-April. He started running on June sixth, 2011. He is still with the team as of August 23rd.

Seattle WR Deon Butler suffered a broken leg (a double fracture in his right leg) that required surgery on December 12th, 2010 - WR Ruvel Martin, who was the first to Butler following the injury on the field, said he could see something sticking out of Butler's leg at the time of the injury. On March 22nd, head coach Pete Carroll said that Butler was "way ahead of schedule" in his rehabilitation, but the injury is severe and it is one that could end his career. Butler was reported (on June 29th) to be healed from the broken leg he suffered in December and has been able to run some routes recently. Butler indicated on June 29th that he is probably not at the speed he was before the injury. Butler has been able to run and cut as of July 26th, while he makes his recovery from a significant leg injury last season. He said he is able to run shorter routes at game speed, but said he hasn't been able to do the same for longer routes so far. He feels it may be another month before he is at game speed. As of late August, Butler is still on the PUP list. Butler (leg) is on the Reserve Physically-Unable-to-Perform list as of September third, 2011, and will miss the first six weeks of the season at a minimum.

Ex-Minnesota/Now-Seattle WR Sidney Rice's agent tweeted Monday, June 6th, that his client is in the best shape of his life. 'Any doubt regarding his hip injury is erased. He is in the best shape healthwise ever,' agent Drew Rosenhaus posted. We'll see how accurate Rosenhaus' report is once the pads go on and contact begins in training camp. Rice got a five-year deal with Seattle worth up to $44 million, including $18.5 million in guarantees on July 27th, 2011. Rice posted 2/11/0 receiving at Denver on August 27th.

Washington signed Stokley at the start of the free agency period.

Seattle WR Mike X. Williams missed the preseason opener Thursday, August 11th, against the San Diego Chargers. He suffered a sprained toe Monday, August 8th, in practice, and did not finish practice Tuesday, August 9th. 'It's not real serious but it's enough to bother me,' head coach Pete Carroll said. 'It's a stretch to think he'll be ready to play. I think we're probably going to hold him out.' Williams returned to practice Sunday, August 14th. He missed the preseason opener Thursday, August 11th due to a sprained toe. Williams did not play in the second preseason game on August 20th, but led the team in receiving on August 27th, with 3/30/0. However, he was unable to practice on August 31st due to his injured toe, and the team was uncertain if he could play in the preseason finale on September second, 2011.

Tampa Bay WR Arrelious Benn (knee/torn ACL week 16 of 2010 regular season) said on February ninth that the rehab from his knee injury is going well. Benn is hoping to be ready for the start of training camp, but that is a very aggressive time-table - usually ACL's require about 12 months to be back at 100% once they have been torn. He was reported to be ahead of the usual schedule for rehabbing a torn ACL on March 1st, but he has yet to test the knee in practice conditions. As of April 21st, 2011 Benn was reportedly "almost" ready to resume football activities - his quick rehabilitation continues to surprise. Benn was running and catching passes in group workouts as of May 25th, 2011. 'I'm way ahead of schedule,' Benn said after the workout. He said he was cleared to run at full speed three weeks ago (early May). Benn (knee) said on June 29th that he is ahead of schedule in his rehab from a torn anterior cruciate ligament and expected to be at full speed at the start of training camp. 'I'm past where I should be. I'm where I want to be. I can't be any better than where I am now. I definitely envision me being full strength and full tilt for training camp. I'm able to cut a little bit and get out there and run a little bit. I want to take it easy. It's still early. I feel good, but things in my knee still need to heal,' Benn said. He attended the player-organized workout Tuesday, June 29, but did not participate in the drills. Benn made his preseason debut Saturday, August 27th. He hauled in one catch for 12 yards, and he also had 11 yards on a reverse.

Tennessee WR Kenny Britt is missing practices to open training camp due to a sore hamstring (as of 8/1/11). Britt reportedly looked good in practice Monday, August 15th, but is still not 100 percent healthy. Britt is hoping to be ready by the team's season opener. Britt did practice on Tuesday, August 16th but was noted complaining that his hamstring isn't 100% yet. Britt sat out of all three preseason games through August 27th due to his sore hamstring. Banks is reportedly not expected to play in the third preseason game Thursday, August 25th, but may be able to play in the final preseason game.

Washington WR Malcolm Kelly went on IR August 31st, 2010 due to a severe hamstring injury. His future with the team is up in the air as of early April 2011 - Kelly has 28/365/0 receiving over two seasons of action with the team during 2008 and 2009. 2011 is the final year on his deal with the team. Kelly (foot injury) was unable to practice Saturday, August 6th, and also missed practice on Tuesday, August 9th. Kelly will have another MRI and X-rays on his right foot. Kelly has been unable to practice since August 4th due to the foot injury. Kelly isn't expected to play in the third preseason game August 25th, and may be cut when the roster is trimmed. Head coach Mike Shanahan said on Monday, August 29th that the team is not considering placing Kelly on Injured Reserve. However, the team did waive Kelly (injured) and he cleared waivers, landing on the IR list Thursday, September first. His season is over.

He was consulting with specialists as of January 6th, 2011, in an attempt to discover the cause of, and treatment for, the bout of migraines. Nelson reportedly has dealt with the migraines for most of his adult life but was unsure what triggered the outbreak of problems during 2010. Nelson missed practice on August 6th due to undisclosed reasons, and has also missed practice on Tuesday, August 16th. Nelson was back at practice on Monday, August 29th after shaking off a leg injury.

Buffalo TE David Nelson returned to practice Saturday, August 6th, and shined during workouts. He missed some time undergoing tests for an undisclosed respiratory condition, and noted he felt his legs were back under him when he returned to the field.

Carolina TE Gary Barnidge is likely lost for the season due to a fractured foot. According to a team source as of August 20th, Barnidge will miss “at least 12 weeks” of action, and will probably be put on IR. Barnidge was placed on IR September third.

Ex-Chicago TE Desmond Clark was carted off the field on August 27th after suffering a serious-looking knee injury. He is being further evaluated, but initial indications are not good for Clark. Clark was not at practice on Monday, August 29th. Clark was released on September third - his time in Chicago is over.

Chicago TE Kellen Davis was not in practice on Monday, August 29th due to a sore back.

Cincinnati TE Jermaine Gresham dressed for but didn't play in the second preseason game due to an undisclosed injury. Gresham missed a second straight practice Monday, August 29th due to a sore ankle.

Cincinnati TE Bo Scaife was placed on IR September third due to a neck injury.

Cleveland TE Jordan Cameron did not participate in practice on Saturday, August 6th due to a hamstring injury.

Cleveland TE Greg Estandia was placed on IR due to an undisclosed condition on July 14th, 2010. His status for 2011 is unclear. As of August fifth, 2011 he is unsigned by any NFL team.

Cleveland TE Evan Moore suffered a mild concussion during the second preseason game Friday, Aug. 19. Head coach Pat Shurmur said he is not sure when Moore would be able to return. Moore didn't make a catch in the third preseason game.

Cleveland TE Benjamin Watson was not practicing on Tuesday, August 16th due to a sore hamstring. However, Watson practiced on Sunday, August 21st.

Dallas TE Martellus Bennett suffered an ankle injury during the third preseason game Saturday, August 27th. The X-rays done of the ankle were negative but the team believes it may be a sprain of the dreaded 'high ankle' variety, which would likely sideline Bennett for several weeks. As of August 28th, Bennett is expected to be out two-to-four weeks due to the injury - he'll likely miss the season opener and perhaps more games during September.

Dallas TE John Phillips suffered a torn ACL in the Hall of Fame preseason game last August. He was placed on IR August 30th, 2010 and had reconstructive surgery on his knee shortly thereafter. Phillips' rehabilitation continues as of early April 2011. He is the third TE on the depth chart as of August 23rd.

Dallas TE Jason Witten grabbed his left hamstring in practice Tuesday, August 23rd, after catching a pass near the sidelines. However, Witten was able to return after missing just four snaps. Hopefully, the minor injury won't flare up later in the week.

Denver TE Dan Gronkowski suffered a serious ankle injury early in December and was placed on IR December 6th, 2010. Gronkowski is battling for a slot on the TE depth chart behind Daniel Fells, Julius Thomas, Dante Rosario and Virgil Green as of August 23rd. Gronkowski was limited during practice Tuesday, August 23rd, because he suffered a strained triceps during practice. Gronkowski was waived Saturday, September third.

Denver has waived injured TE Richard Quinn (knee) as of August 22nd. He will be placed on Injured Reserve if he goes unclaimed.

Detroit TE Brandon Pettigrew (ankle) was back on the practice field Sunday, August 14th. He missed a few practices, and sat out during the preseason opener Friday, August 12th, against the Cincinnati Bengals. 'Brandon, it was good to have him back. He did a great job,' head coach Jim Schwartz said.

Detroit TE Tony Scheffler left practice early Wednesday, August 17th, after suffering a left hand injury. However, Scheffler played and scored in the third preseason game, so this hand injury appears to have been minor.

Green Bay TE Jermichael Finley was placed on IR Monday, October 18th due to a knee injury that required surgery. He had a second surgery on the knee on Wednesday, November third due to a serious infection that led to a 105 F fever and other complications. As of November 3rd, he was expected to stay on crutches into the middle of December before beginning any rehabilitation on the knee. On March 1st, head coach Mike McCarthy commented on Finley, saying "I love that kid, man. He's so competitive, and he loves to play football. He makes us a better football team. Not just because of his ability and his uniqueness, but also his competitive spirit." As of early April, Finley appears to be on course to play football as usual during 2011. He ran routes and caught passes on April 22nd, which is a good sign for his return to the field during 2011. Finley tweeted Thursday, May 12th, that his injured knee is back to 100 percent. 'It's May and this knee feels brand new already,' Finley tweeted. Finley said on June sixth that he continues to rehab his injured knee and the knee feels great. Finley said Sunday, July 17th, on his official Twitter account that his knee is "fine". Finley did not dress for the preseason opener Saturday, August 13th, against the Cleveland Browns due to a glute injury - the knee was not the issue. Finley made his preseason debut Friday, August 19th, against the Arizona Cardinals. He posted four receptions for 33 yards.

Houston TE Owen Daniels struggled with a nagging knee injury during December 2010, but he was signed to a four-year, $22 million contract on March 3rd, 2011 - Daniels was presumably healthy before the team signed him to a four-year deal. Daniels snagged 6/57/1 receiving to lead the Texans in the third preseason game on August 27th. He looks set to go for regular season.

Houston TE Garrett Graham missed the Texans' games in December 2010 due to a nagging hamstring injury. He is expected to be fine in time for the 2011 training camp. He appeared in just six games during his rookie campaign. He is still with the team as of August 23rd.

Indianapolis TE Dallas Clark was placed on IR October 26th, 2010 due to a wrist injury that required corrective surgery. Clark was reportedly happy with his rehabilitation work on the wrist as of March 15th, 2011 - the injury has healed and he was working on regaining range of motion as of mid-March. Reports out of Indianapolis on July 29th indicated that Clark will wear a protective splint on his wrist during training camp. Clark tweaked an ankle in practice on Friday, August 5th but returned to finish practice. Clark is reportedly fully healthy and has been practicing without restraint as of August 11th. 'It feels great. I have not felt it, which I'm trying not to jinx myself or think about it too much,' said Clark. 'I'm just seriously trying to take it day-by-day and just kind of cross whatever bridge that comes – however it feels, whatever attention it needs, more therapy, more post-workout treatments and things like that. It feels great, so I'm really excited.'

Indianapolis TE Brody Eldridge missed practice on Friday, August 5th due to a knee injury.

Jacksonville TE Zach Miller struggled with a foot injury early during the 2010 season, and ended 2010 inactive during week 17 due to a concussion. He is buried behind Marcedes Lewis on the TE depth chart in Jacksonville heading into the 2011 season. Lewis' contract extension signed August fifth, is for five years and $35 million with nearly $17 million guaranteed. Miller is expected to be out for the next two weeks (as of August 18th) due to a right knee injury.

Kansas City TE Tony Moeaki (knee) is still making his way back from arthroscopic surgery in late March. The team feels he'll be able to return to the practice field soon (as of August 6, 2011). Moeaki was elevated off of the active physically-unable-to-perform list Monday, August 8th, and took part in practice for the first time during training camp. He did some route running during a light workout. Moeaki was able to play in the preseason game Friday, August 26th, against the St. Louis Rams. He did not have any receptions, although he was targeted three times. Moeaki is reportedly still not 100 percent recovered from offseason knee surgery. Moeaki suffered an undisclosed injury during the final preseason game Thursday, September first. Reports on September third indicated that the injury is a torn ACL and Moeaki is expected to be lost for the season as a result.

Minnesota rookie TE Kyle Rudolph played in just six games his junior season at Notre Dame and had surgery in October 2010, to repair a serious hamstring injury. He was selected in the second round of the NFL draft by the Vikings.

Minnesota TE Visanthe Shiancoe tweaked his hamstring during practice Monday, August 8th. Head coach Leslie Frazier voiced some concern about the injury. As of August 15th, Shiancoe is expected to miss practices 8/15-8/19 due to the injury. Shiancoe did not play in the preseason game Saturday, August 20th, against the Seattle Seahawks. Shiancoe returned to practice on Monday, August 22nd. However, Shiancoe suffered a setback in his recovery on Wednesday, August 24th and won't play in the third preseason game on Saturday, August 27th.

New England TE Rob Gronkowski (ankle injury) played briefly in the team's second preseason game Thursday, August 18th, against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, despite missing the preseason opener with his sore ankle. He saw one target for zero receptions. He had one catch for seven yards at Detroit on August 27th.

NE TE Lee Smith returned to practices on Wednesday, August 24th after missing time due to an undisclosed injury.

Ex-New York Giants'/Now-Oakland TE Kevin Boss (hip) said on May 4th, 2011 that his rehab from offseason hip surgery is going well and that he expects to be medically cleared to resume football activities in a few weeks. The Raiders signed Boss to a four-year deal worth $16 million on August fourth, so presumably his hip injury is a non-issue entering 2011. Boss suffered a strained left knee in the preseason game Saturday, August 20th. He was hit on the knee by a helmet after making a reception. 'It's nothing serious, that's for sure. Take a little time to heal up,' Boss said. Head coach Hue Jackson said on Sunday, August 21st that Boss is considered 'week to week' due to the injury.

Pittsburgh TE Heath Miller struggled with a concussion at the end of the 2010 regular season, missing two games during December - he did return for the team's Super Bowl run, though, and caught passes in all of the playoff games. Fantasy owners should keep in mind that once a player suffers a serious concussion, future injuries are more likely to occur.

San Francisco TE Nate Byham (knee) was placed on the season-ending Injured Reserve list Saturday, Sept. 3.

St. Louis TE Michael Hoomanawanui managed to play in eight games during his rookie season. Hoomanawanui returned to practices on Monday, August 15th after recovering from a concussion suffered earlier in training camp. However, Hoomanawanui suffered a calf injury during practice Monday, August 22nd, and was not able to finish practice. The severity of the injury is under evaluation as of August 23rd.

St. Louis TE Fendi Onobun was placed on IR November 17th, 2010 due to a bulging disk in his lower back. Onobun was reportedly "100 %" recovered from the back problem as of April 19th, 2011. Onobun missed practice on Monday, August 15th due to a groin injury, but returned to practice on Tuesday, August 16th.

Ex-St. Louis TE Darcy Johnson was placed on IR October 12th, 2010 due to a concussion. He hasn't signed with a NFL team as of August fifth, 2011.

San Diego TE Antonio Gates fought through nagging foot (plantar fascia injury) and toe injuries to play for part of 2010 - he missed six of the last eight games - but once the team was out of the playoff picture, he was placed on IR December 30th, 2010. Gates was not medically cleared to play in the Pro Bowl as of January 22nd, 2011. He is not expected to need surgery for the injury. Gates is reportedly doing very well as of May 24th, 2011: head coach Norv Turner reported that the All-Pro is doing well. "I did get to see him during the two-day period that the lockout was lifted and he's excited that his rehab is going well." Gates passed his physical with the team as of August 6th. However, Gates was given the day off of training camp practice Sunday, August 7th, to rest. Gates was able to return to a full practice Sunday, August 14th. Gates said it was a 'really, really good sign for me. It actually put a smile on my face.' Gates was able to take part in a full practice for the third consecutive day Wednesday, August 17th. 'We can back off him a little bit and not go crazy with this thing,' head coach Norv Turner said. 'He's had three really impressive days, so he's made great progress.' Gates was held out of the second preseason game on August 21st, and on Monday, August 22nd head coach Norv Turner indicated that Gates wouldn't practice again until the following week. However, Gates was back in practice on Tuesday, August 23rd. Gates said on Monday, August 29th that it felt good to return to the field during the team's third preseason game. 'It was like riding a bike again,' Gates said. Gates didn't take long to make an impact, catching a 13-yard touchdown pass in the first half. He played about 20 snaps during the game.

San Francisco TE Nate Byham (knee injury) was placed on IR September third, 2011.

Seattle TE John Carlson has been kept out of practices and preseason games due to a labrum injury in his shoulder. The team is said to be increasingly concerned over the injury as of August 22nd.Carlson was placed on IR September third, 2011. His season is over.

Ex-Seattle TE Jameson Konz is reportedly fully recovered from the hip injury that cost him his entire rookie season. “I feel like I’ve recovered 100 percent. I still feel fast. I feel back to normal. I know I have the passion and the potential to do whatever they want me to do.” Konz said on June 30th. He has yet to find a new NFL team.

Seattle TE Anthony McCoy was inactive for most of regular season (active for two games, with zero catches). Part of his problem was a knee injury that led to his placement on IR November 27th, 2010. He is still on the roster as of August 23rd, but is behind free-agent signee Zach Miller.

Seattle TE Cameron Morrah (toe injury) was placed on the PUP list on September third, 2011. He'll miss at least six weeks of the regular season.

Tampa Bay rookie TE Daniel Hardy broke his left forearm during 2010 and missed the final five games of the season - then he injured his right hamstring during Texans vs. the Nation all-star game and therefore didn't run or jump at the 2011 scouting combine as a result of that injury.

Tampa Bay rookie TE Luke Stocker has missed practices during training camp due to a hip injury.

Tampa Bay TE Kellen Winslow has been working out with his teammates and said on May 24th that his knee is feeling good. 'The knee is feeling really good. I just love the game so much. This is all I've ever wanted to do. I was born and bred for this. It's all I want to do. I just want to get back to playing football.' Winslow left in the second quarter of the third preseason game due to an ankle injury, but he likely would have returned if it were a regular season game. 'No big deal,' Winslow said. The game on August 27th was Winslow's first live action of the preseason.

Tennessee TE Daniel Graham missed practice Tuesday, August 16th, because of a sore ankle.

Washington TE Chris Cooley did not practice on Friday, August fifth due to a sore left knee.Cooley did not participate in practice Saturday, August 6th. Head coach Mike Shanahan said Cooley will be able to practice Monday, August 8th. Cooley returned to practice Monday, August 8th. Cooley missed three days after having fluid drained from his left knee. Cooley may not be ready for the start of the regular season, according to head coach Mike Shanahan as of August 14th. Cooley has been dealing with a knee injury. Cooley watched practice on Sunday August 21st from the sidelines with a bulky brace on his left knee. He indicated that he wasn't sure if he can play in the regular season opener. Cooley addressed the issue on August 22nd, saying “I have enough cartilage in my knee,” he said. “The problem was over a long period of time I was starting to bruise around it, and the joint around it was becoming so irritated.” Cooley recently visited renowned orthopedist Dr. James Andrews, who prescribed more rest. He has been running, however, on an anti-gravity treadmill at Redskins Park since that visit with Dr. Andrews.

PK

Cincinnati PK Mike Nugent went on IR November 15th, 2010 due to a torn right ACL, a sprained right MCL, and meniscus cartilage damage in his kicking leg. As of March 4th, 2011, Nugent claimed to be ahead of schedule in his rehabilitation from reconstructive knee surgery - he hopes to start kicking again in May 2011.

Dallas PK David Buehler (hip injury) missed the preseason game Sunday, August 21st, against the San Diego Chargers.

Denver PK Matt Prater was placed on IR December 23rd, 2010 due to a groin injury. He has since re-signed with the team.

Detroit PK Jason Hanson managed to play in just eight games last season due to a series of three lower-leg injuries during 2010. He and Dave Rayner will battle for the PK duties during training camp. Hanson is reportedly battling a slew of recent injuries, and, for the first time in his career, another player as he competes in training camp with PK Dave Rayner, who is 13 years younger than the 41-year-old Hanson. 'We have a lot of confidence in Jason,' head coach Jim Schwartz said August 8th. 'If we have a pressure kick, I'd trust Jason to do it. It's just been a matter of health. He's gotten a little bit older, and the last two training camps he's been hurt. But as far as making the kicks and things like that, I have no problem.'

Ex-Indianapolis PK Brett Swenson was placed on IR due to an undisclosed injury suffered during training camp. He has been released by the team and hasn't re-signed in the NFL as of August fifth.

New England PK Stephen Gostkowski tore the quad muscle off the bone in his kicking leg last November - he had surgery to repair the damage. As of March 22nd, head coach Bill Belichick appeared confident that Gostkowski would recover in time for the 2011 season.

New Orleans PK Garrett Hartley injured his hip in the third preseason game. Head coach Sean Payton said after the game Sunday, August 28th, that not using PK Garrett Hartley on extra points was a precaution. Payton said that he didn't think the injury was serious. However, reports on Tuesday, August 30th indicated that the Saints are looking into signing PK John Kasay as insurance due to the hip injury to Hartley. Reports on September first, 2011 indicated that Hartley is out 6-10 weeks due to his hip injury, and that John Kasay will be the starting PK during at least half of the season as a result.

New York Giants PK Lawrence Tynes underwent an MRI Sunday, August 14th, which revealed a thigh bruise. It is not clear how much time he may miss, but the Giants may add another kicker in the next few days to handle kicking duties while Tynes is sidelined. The Giants signed free-agent PK Rhys Lloyd (Panthers) Tuesday, August 16th. Lloyd served as the team's kicker Monday, Aug. 22, because PK Lawrence Tynes could not play. Tynes also missed the third preseason game on August 29th due to the quadriceps injury.

San Francisco PK Joe Nedney was placed on IR December 18th, 2010 due to a non-kicking knee injury. He has ended the last two seasons on IR due to injury (14 games played 2009, nine games played 2010) - fantasy owners should note that he seems to be breaking down after playing 63 out of 64 possible games during his first four years with the 49ers. Nedney was released by the 49ers on Thursday, July 28th. David Akers is now the team's kicker.

Maurice Jones-Drew has been a major topic when it comes to offseason rehab and his injury from last season. On the NFL network late last week he said he should be running by today or tomorrow. He said the rehab is going well and he may be full speed in a month. It sounded as if he was being overly positive, which is a good thing, but I suspect he'll need more than a month to get to full strength.

New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez confirmed a recent hip surgery on Sunday, according to The Hartford Courant.

The other rookie NE TE

Hernandez, who appeared on crutches Sunday morning at his brother D.J.'s football camp in Southington, Conn., was peppered with questions from kids asking, "What happened to your leg?"

Hernandez told his audience that he was on the mend from surgery to his injured hip, which forced him to miss New England's final two games of the regular season. He appeared in last month's AFC Divisional playoff loss to the New York Jets, catching one pass for four yards.

The 6-foot-1, 245-pound Hernandez finished his promising rookie campaign as the Patriots' third-leading receiver with 45 receptions for 563 yards and six touchdowns. New England drafted Hernandez in the fourth round of last April's draft.

Aaron and D.J. grew up in nearby Bristol, Conn. D.J., 24, was a quarterback and wideout at the University of Connecticut and now serves as football coach at Southington High School.

Antonio Gates - TE - Chargers Chargers placed TE Antonio Gates (foot) on active/PUP.

Gates may only be day to day -- the Chargers have been clear that they'll ease him into camp -- but it's concerning that he's not recovered from his torn plantar fascia after a full offseason to heal. Gates promises that he'll gut out the foot problems again, but it's not out of the question that the Chargers put will put him on a snap count. Gates is 31 years old with injuries to both feet. As for "active/PUP," he can be removed at any time in camp. Source: Aaron Wilson on Twitter Jul 29, 12:41 AM

ATL RB Michael Turner reveals he's 100% recovered from offseason groin surgery - said so 7/29 after camp opened.

New comment on ATL RB Michael Turner's groin surgery: Head coach Mike Smith said on 7/30: “We feel very confident with the procedure that was done and with his rehab. He’s been back to full speed for a number of weeks. It was not a very complicated procedure.”

Houston Texans All-Pro receiver Andre Johnson dislocated his left index finger during a Tuesday morning practice, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Johnson was running a slant route in an individual drill and leaped to catch a pass, with rookie cornerback Rashad Carmichael defending. Johnson couldn't make the catch and came down shaking his left hand. He took off his glove, his finger was bleeding and he walked to the sideline, where a trainer examined him. The team isn't sure of the extent of the injury: "We're getting it looked at," head coach Gary Kubiak said. "I've got a big lump in my throat like everybody else, but hopefully, he'll be fine."

8/3/11 new update on HOU Andre Johnson's status after his finger injury. Also updates/new information on SD RB Ryan Mathews, JAX RB Maurice Jones-Drew, OAK WR Darrius Heyward-Bey, SF RB Frank Gore, WAS QB John Beck, PIT WR Emmanuel Sanders, WAS RB Ryan Torain, WR Marques Colston, BAL WR David Reed, and BAL WR James Hardy.

Darren McFadden - RB -

Raiders Darren McFadden is out two weeks with a fractured orbital bone in his eye.

We usually don't love any missed training camp reps, but the McFadden news isn't at all concerning. Lighting up the practice field before the injury, McFadden will save wear and tear on his legs and probably be fine for the last two preseason games. He already knows Hue Jackson's scheme, so it isn't like the injury will put McFadden behind the eight ball. He remains locked in as a late first-round fantasy pick with top-five running back upside. Heat, flu, Foster's injury hamper Texans' practice

By DALE ROBERTSON

Aug. 5, 2011, 11:31AM

The Texans were supposed to be at full strength for the first time Friday with 85 players practicing up from 71 Thursday morning but a spreading stomach flu bug, Arian Fosters strained hamstring and sweltering conditions dampened their enthusiasm.

Head coach Gary Kubiak dismissed ailing tight end Owen Daniels during pre-practice stretching, then saw Foster pull up lame and grab his leg after a 40-yard run to the end zone on the first play of 11-on-11 scrimmage.

Foster, the NFLs rushing champion last season, was working out for the first time after been stuck in limbo while the new collective bargaining agreement was being finalized. Speaking after practice, Kubiak admitted he didnt yet know how bad the injury was.

I dont know, but he didnt feel good so I just said Get out, Kubiak said. He went 35, 40 minutes (in practice) and looked great, so Im hoping hell be right back out here. Well see.

Foster stayed on the field for the rest of practice as a spectator only. He declined interview requests afterwards.

Kubiak, asked if he was worried, replied: No, Im not, not right now. I could probably answer better this afternoon.

Besides Foster and the former Pro Bowler Daniels, the Texans were also missing star receiver Andre Johnson, whos recovering from a dislocated finger suffered in the first practice Monday and also has been laid low by the flu.

Offensively were missing some key pieces, Kubiak said. When Andres not practicing, Owens not practicing and Arians not practicing, that concerns me. But, at the same time, it does give you a chance to get better because all those other guys are getting the reps. Weve got to just stay focused on them.

Daniels came out intending to practice, but Kubiak told him to take the morning off.

New free safety Danieal Manning was also under the weather, but he made it through the workout before being taken to get an IV to replenish lost fluids.

With almost no breeze, the conditions were the most difficult the Texans have yet encountered in the first week of training camp.

Kubiak said two or three players each day have been under the weather.

Its going around, he said. I have no idea why. A couple of guys have been able to push through. Three of them did practice.

Linebacker DeMeco Ryans admitted its making him a little less social than usual.

Im trying to stay away from guys, he said, laughing. Im not shaking hands, covering my face, things like that."

Kubiak, asked if he was worried, replied: “No, I’m not, not right now. I could probably answer better this afternoon.”

Besides Foster and the former Pro Bowler Daniels, the Texans were also missing star receiver Andre Johnson, who’s recovering from a dislocated finger suffered in the first practice Monday and also has been laid low by the flu.

“Offensively we’re missing some key pieces,” Kubiak said. “When Andre’s not practicing, Owen’s not practicing and Arian’s not practicing, that concerns me. But, at the same time, it does give you a chance to get better because all those other guys are getting the reps. We’ve got to just stay focused on them.”

Kubiak said “two or three players” each day have been under the weather.

“It’s going around,” he said. “I have no idea why. A couple of guys have been able to push through. Three of them did practice.”

Linebacker DeMeco Ryans admitted it’s making him a little less social than usual.

“I’m trying to stay away from guys,” he said, laughing. “I’m not shaking hands, covering my face, things like that."

Ryan Williams, RB Cards - looks like a nasty ankle injury.
Thanks, I researched this just now - looks like a season-ending patellar tendon (knee) injury:
Arizona Cardinals RB Ryan Williams (knee) suffered an injury to his right knee and leg in the preseason game Friday, Aug. 19. Early indication is that the injury is a ruptured patella tendon, which would require season-ending surgery.
Going to slap up a HOT update.

Mark, this is a great thread full of info that you have undoubtedly invested hours of work into. Thank you. However....the thread format is so bad that it renders the info worthless. Any chance of reformatting in a clear concise way, perhaps by date?

Thanks for your hard work.I.

Not sure what you mean by "worthless". The most recent information on each player is bolded as long as I've had an update on them sometime in August. The various positions (QB, RB, WR, TE, PK) are organized by team in alphabetical order, except where someone has switched teams by free agency - then I've left them with their original 2011 team in most cases. All information pertaining to a particular player is listed under that player's name. If you want to find a particular player by name, use the "Ctrl" and "F" keys on your computer and then search the thread that way. Ctrl-F will take you directly to whatever player you are looking for (except in the case of guys with the same name, like Steve Smith - then you might have to hit "Next") if you put in their whole name.Hope that helps.Mark Wimer

OK--I guess I just see it as easier if you had news sorted daily in order to track the most current news. This would eliminate CTRLFing 12 players in order to see your HOT updates each day and elminate scrolling past May news. I apologize for worthless, it was a harsh word, but the format is--to me--difficult. :shrug:Hey, you do a great job, thanks for the hard work. sorry for peeing in the thread.

NP, in years past there has been debate about what level of detail to include. I do edit and revise this report regularly (in fact, tomorrow morning I'm going to do that again before sending it to Clayton for publishing to the main site on Tuesday). Why don't you pop in again tomorrow afternoon/evening after the latest "pruning" - it may suit you better once the last two weeks worth of updates have been revised down.MW

Not critical, but Drew Stanton played in preseason week 2 against the Browns. 6-8, 80 yards, 2 TDs. I believe he was back at practice on the 15th or 16th. Source: Prideofdetroit.com

Since OL effects everything figured i'd post this here.

BEREA, Ohio -- The seasons of Cleveland Browns starting left guard Eric Steinbach (back disk) and running back Brandon Jackson (toe) are in doubt because of their injuries, sources told The Plain Dealer today.

Coach Pat Shurmur said Jackson will be out "an extended period.''

Shurmur also indicated that he's not sure when -- or if -- Steinbach will be back this season.

"At this point, he's going through some treatments that we're hoping will get him back, and there's no real final call yet on whether he'll be back -- or when actually,'' said Shurmur.

Steinbach recently had a second opinion, and doctors are trying to determine whether he needs surgery, the sources said. If so, he'd most likely be placed on injured reserve for the season.

Shurmur said rookie guard Jason Pinkston, who started in place of Steinbach on Thursday night against the Eagles, has made tremendous progress and is holdiing up well at a demanding position. Pinkston will be penciled in to replace Steinbach if he can't come back.

Jackson, the Browns' third-down back, hurt his toe in the second preseason game against the Detroit Lions and is in a cast. Shurmur said he'd need to let the toe settle down a bit before he can get back on the field, which could take significant time.

In addition, linebacker Titus Brown, who left the Eagles game on crutches, has a high ankle sprain and will also be out at least a few weeks. "He may be out for some time,'' said Shurmur. The Browns are already thin at linebacker with Chris Gocong still out with his neck stinger.

Receiver Jordan Norwood suffered a right knee injury after cornerback Sheldon Brown inadvertently tripped him on a fair catch. Norwood was idle today with hiis knee wrapped.

Cornerback Dimitri Patterson, who missed the Eagles game, had his right ankle wrapped and sat out today's walk-through. Other players idle today included Carlton Mitchell, Mohamed Massaquoi, Usama Young, T.J. Ward, Josh Cribbs, Marcus Benard and Steve Octavien.

Benard suffered a shoulder injury in the game, but Shurmur didn't have details.

Shurmur said Massaquoi and Young are close to returning to the practice field. He said he's not certain if Massaquoi will play in the final preseason game Thursday in Chicago.

IND RB Chad Spann, Carolina FB Tony Fiammetta, HOU RB Steve Slaton, HOU RB Arian Foster were also updated.

Good Luck to everyone during the coming NFL regular season. ARE YOU READY FOR SOME REAL, LIVE NFL FOOTBALL? :football: I know I am!

Mark Wimer
