League 0004.
Got the 4 spot. Don't love it. Would have liked the back end where there's a chance of going CMC/Achane or CMC/Jacobs or Achane/Jacobs. Figured I want Lamb over CMC but if Lamb and Chase both go, I'll take CMC. I'm Ricky Bobby with the contest format. If you don't have the potential to blow up the last few weeks you may as well not play. I knew I would wait LONG on QB given how late they went in the other leagues plus the value I see in Purdy and Love. And possibly a Tua stack for playoff time or something since he seems to go super late. Decided to do something a little weird at DEF, where I staunchly stream and have for a decade but found it very annoying last season in this deeeeep format.
2 minutes is WAY too long a timer after 10 rounds. Last 10 should be 1 minute good lord. That took forever. Allowed me to write this up as we went along though LOL.
Round 1: CeeDee Lamb - part of the plan. I dreamed maybe we went 3 RB to start and I got Chase but knew Lamb was likely
Round 2: Drake London - Was hoping for Jacobs (he made it back a couple times) but he went and then as London started to fall I got excited. Like him a lot - Start 3 WR, 2 flex, full PPR - these guys are heavy duty valuable
Round 3: James Cook - Considered Allen but he went a pick before. Considered Cook, Hampton, Lamar, and Tyreek. Decided RB went heavy here so I should grab my last elite-ish guy in James Cook.
Round 4: Tyreek Hill - he fell! Easy choice
Round 5: RJ Harvey - another guy where I had to take him now or never, but debated with Tet for a little bit. Turns out I maybe should have taken Pearsall here somehow.........
Round 6: Rashee Rice - he wasn't available in any of the first leagues or any mocks I did here. I had Pearsall pegged to be the earliest of any of the SP leagues, but some lunatic (damn you) took him 6.04, a full round ahead of any other ADP. Damn it
Round 7: JK Dobbins - easy choice again, last chance to grab him with other guys obviously having looked at the other leagues. Hopefully to jumping for "my guys" a few are doing means some value falls to me
Round 8: Zach Charbonnet - Scoresman made this one super easy on me as it was him or Andrews, and I was thinking Charb could fall back but Andrews never would. Then he took the TE so that was that. Really high contingency value and standalone value too. Probably the 40% side of timeshare.
Round 9: Keon Coleman - I had him plugged in here the entire draft. Especially knowing guys between my 9th and 10th picks have seen my model loves Coleman this year.
Round 10: Brock Purdy - This was highlighted as my last chance at Purdy, though I also like Jordan Love as a backup. After the 1.01 took a TE but no QB I figured I risk him doubling up and I risk
the 2nd slot doubling up if i don't take one here. I figured now if Love or Tue or Penix fall very far I'll snag as a backup for value/stack.
Round 11: Kyle Pitts - With London in tow, I decided maybe stacking a little with Pitts could be worth it. I don't really believe in the pick that much, but I waited a LOOOOOONG time on TE so you get what you get. With how the draft fell I figured Kincaid would come back to me but Pitts wouldn't and tried to scoop max value. Spoiler alert...two picks later to the guy with Njoku. He went 11.12, 14.09, and 15.10 in the last three. Oh well. Would have taken Kincaid in hindsight. No TEs in the next 2+ rounds went either. ugh.
Round 12: Woody Marks - In this round, every single "hey some god contingent value in these backfields" guys got taken one after another - Braelon Allen, Dylan Sampson, Ray Davis, ollie Gordon...decimated my queue. Woody Marks remained as i guy i think may catch a lot of balls as standalone value too.
Round 13: Broncos DEF - It was here I decided maybe I should take like 3-4 defenses. Last year it was really hard to play the wire for them in a league of fairly active owners all trying to do the smart thing. So zig when everyone zags. I think maybe the first time I've ever taken a defense first in a draft. Figured it might spark a couple others and lead to some value falling back anyway.
Round 14: 49ers DEF - let's keep trying this plan and see what happens
Round 15: Jordan Love - felt like I was tempting fate to keep forgoing a 2nd QB, as most guys behind me have 2 shots at theirs and this is the range they seemed to start going. (14-16th in the other 3 drafts) plus the dominator is yelling for the 4th round in a row to take one so I'm sure others have it up on a screen too. Lo and behold 3 more QBs immediately followed in the next 4 picks.
Round 16: Texans DEF - I mean it, may as well try it. Looking for good teams with good schedules.
Round 17: Kyle Williams - all upside here. i think the Pats D falls more (love those Jets matchups + generally easy schedule) and with Diggs coming off ACL and Douglas a slot only guy, this is someone who I hope has a second half or final third of the season breakout / goes on a run / etc.
Round 18: Patriots DEF - Planned to take the Pats here, with darts remaining to toss at QJ, Ray Ray McCloud, maybe grab Hunter Henry as a safe TE since someone took Strange before my last pick. Henry got taken. Brashard Smith got taken. Mason Taylor got taken. Lots of upside went away here. We'll see if I regret losing an arrow or two from the quiver earlier with my zig zag defense plan. I kind of think I'd do it again but you never know.
Round 19: Ray-Ray McCloud - I like Mooney too, but he went ahead of where I'd hoped he would fall. So maybe he reinjures shoulder or something. Penix should be slinging it all over, so have a few shots at that offense doesn't feel bad to me.
Round 20: Theo Johnson - Figured I would take currently injured Likely here when everyone seemed done at TE. Then Mr Harris took him. Dang it. Packers get Browns week 3 baby. 5 defenses is huge overkill even with my plan so I went for an upside TE in Theo who finished last year on a high note.
