He'll play. I can't see him letting his team down. It's the right thing to do.
Here fishy, fishy. :fishing:
Not every unpopular opinion is a fishing trip.He has a responsibility to his teammates and the people who pay him millions of dollars. I wager Urlacher feels the same way and will be in the lineup on Sunday.
Seriously, some of you people are just flat out messed in the head.He may play, but not because he has any sort of duty to anyone. Family may need him. He may need his family. That trumps his profession. Doesn't matter the money he makes or what a messag board poster thinks. At least have a liitle respect for the guy if he decides to sit this one out.
I respect Urlacher but what if I don't respect that decision?
Needless to say, it reflects a lot about your priorities in life.
Not to mention relationship with reality. It's common for people to take bereavement leave of a week when an immediate family member dies. There is nothing even remotely selfish about that. You can't be serious. It's football.

People take leaves of absence for a family member's death every day. If Urlacher plays its not because he feels a responsibility to his employers or teammates. Its because he has settled his feelings enough to go on with life. The fact that youre pushing the "letting his team down" angle is why its a fishing trip.

Wow, that sucks. Can you imagine someone in your family dying every single day?

Not at all. I sincerely believe he has a responsibility to his teammates, the coaching staff, the McCaskey's and even to the fans. He's their best player, the team suffers without him in the lineup. I sincerely believe that if he chose not to play he would be letting his team down. He's back in Chicago already, I don't know why but I'm gonna say it's because Urlacher agrees with me.

I guess if you genuinely believe that. I just feel you're completely off base. If Urlacher is playing its because he wants to and not from any sense of duty to the team. There are very few excuses you could use to not play and be justified. Death of your mother is one of them.

Urlacher back in Chicago

Did anyone seriously think he would miss the game?
Dude just lost his mom at a fairly early age (51?), suddenly and with no real time spent together in anticipation of her passing. The better question is, do I care if he misses this game?

Returning to Chicago today doesn't guarantee that he'll play, but I agree that it greatly increases the probability that he will. It would surprise me a little if he doesn't play, but if his head's not "in the game", then I'ld be absolutely fine with him not playing...

The vast majority, if not all of us, desperately want to be able to say "goodbye" and tell the most important folks in our lives how much we love them, and how much they meant to us. From everything I've heard, Brian was very close with his mom. It may be difficult for him to find closure so soon.

As a fan who has appreciated watching him play for the last decade or so, I hope to see him this Sunday in N.O. However, it won't be a disappointment for me if he chooses to spend additional time with the rest of his family this weekend, rather than play football.

I agree he likely will play this weekend. I agree that he may need the outlet of football and teammates as part of the healing process. What most people take issue with here is your arrogance. To think you hold a moral compass on Urlacher's personal life and the fact that you would hold the fans as more important that his family, his grieving, the personal hell he is going through. You can be an insensitive ####### all you want, as it doesn't affect me one bit. Contrary to your delusion, I doubt Urlacher would give 2 pennies for your opinion here, let alone "agree with you, either.I wish him the best, whether he is with his family or with his team, or somehow manages to be with both this weekend.

Isn't it pretty routine for players to miss games because of deaths in their immediate families? (apologies if this has already been brought up, I won't have time to read this whole thread until tonight)

Urlacher returns to the Bears today

Yahoo Sports

According to several sources, Urlacher was back at Halas Hall on Thursday, one day earlier than many expected, though it's unknown when or if he'd have to leave again for any memorial service.

Later Thursday morning, Urlacher posted this message on his Facebook page:

Back at practice. Thank you for your thoughts. Please send donations to: The Lavoyda Fund c/o City of Lovington Youth Center, 214 S Love St. Lovington, NM 88260

Wow "arrogance" and "#######" (whatever that is)? Seriously?I do not hold the fans exclusively as the reason for him to play and I think that fact is obvious from my statement above. So please don't paint that as my stance as it is not.Urlacher is in Chicago, he will likely leave again this week for the funeral and meet the team in New Orleans. Everything he is doing indicates that, along with caring about his mother, he also cares about his team. So far he is doing exactly what I thought he would/should do, so why are people so upset that I verbalized it? His actions indicate that he agrees with me.

Not the good players.
If true, why do you think it is true? The drive to succeed professionally, which is one of the things that makes them good, outweighs familial responsibilities?I'm not a driven person so I'm trying to understand people who are and what people's reasonable expectations are of people with "responsibilities." If the President's mother dies and Russian and Cuban paratroopers drop into Colorado the same day, it would be pretty reasonable to expect the Prez to forego the funeral. I wouldn't have the same expectation however if it had been a train wreck near Kansas City instead. Where along the spectrum does a professional football game lie? To the undriven me, it lags pretty far behind mom's funeral.
