Brodie Croyle? (1 Viewer)

I know Huard is playing well now but there is got to be a reason that he has never been a regular starter for any team. Croyle would be Herms person pick for QB. And I know that herm isn't scared to put a young buy out there. I watched him at the combine and he wasn't overly impressive but he had something about him. Can't describe it but he just had something. Any SEC guys out there know more about him? I'd like to know what you guys think.

TIA

Good arm strength, attitude and football smarts but has an injury history at Alabama and in high school (ACL injury). This is due to his thin frame and he would have a bad time handling alot of sacks. He might develope into something but most likely it will be after sitting behind a starter for a year or two; BUT this is his first year in the league and it is hard to tell anything so early.

I have seen mock drafts for this years draft with the Chiefs choosing another QB in the 1st round and was surprised because I keep hearing that Herm likes Brodie Croyle.

Here is a LINK to an article in the KC Star a few days ago about the Chiefs plans.

QB Brodie Croyle is an important figure as the Chiefs begin to ponder their future at quarterback, both in the short and long terms. One veteran, starter QB Trent Green, played poorly this season. The other, QB Damon Huard, is scheduled to be a free agent. There won’t be room for both Green and Huard on the 2007 Chiefs roster. No matter what they decide, Croyle looms as either a starter or, more than likely, the top backup who would get a quick promotion if the regular falters. Croyle appears destined to be the starting quarterback by opening day of 2008, at the latest.
Does anyone else this Croyle can be another Pennington for Herm?

I dont think the Chiefs draft a QB. I think they do like Croyle.

NFLE fodder. Might compete with Printers for No. 3 ...

I think there is a big split among KC fans, media, etc.

There are really three groups.

1. Stay with Croyle, let Huard walk, start out 07 with Trent and see how far he goes, and when he inevitably get injured (and most think he will) then the Croyle era begins.

2. Re-sign Huard to be the starter, ask Trent to restructure or trade him to a DET or WASH, as he does not fit Herm's system. Croyle would basically stay as a backup.

3. Croyle is not the answer.....let Huard walk, as he is 34. Have Trent restructure, and go after a younger veteran QB, i.e. David Carr.

Personally, I think Huard, who will be 34, should not be re-signed. Trent, who will be 37, as well as a bad fit for the offensive system, should either take a pay cut and remian as a backup or be traded. Keep in mind his buddy Terry Shea was let go as QB's coach last month.

That leaves Croyle, and we really only have two samples to go from. In the preseason and the 4th QTR of the Pittsburgh game. In neither situation was he much to get excited over. he threw a pick 6 in Pittsburgh. I think Croyle will be a nice backup QB here, but I don't see him being the starter.

I personally think David Carr would be my choice for KC QB.

:goodposting: David Carr is Tim Couch, redux...he stinks, with or without an O-line in Houston. He just can't play at the pro level. some guys are busts.he's one of them. but thats just my opinion.Huard had this team rolling while he was in there..I'd re-sign him,and work with Croyle as the eventual replacement at QB. but I'd cut Green without hesitation. his best days haveblown by him..Croyle isn't ready, and Green isn't capable anymore...Herm screwed up last season, he should have stayed with Huard instead of going back to Green...but, that's Herm for ya! they should get rid of him, too.. :goodposting:

I saw a lot of Carr, and I think behind a decent OL and a good running game, he will be better.
Me too as soon as he gets a heart transplant. But seriously I think Carr is damaged goods and will never be the QB he might have been whether all pro or solid starter. He's been broken down too badly. I doubt he will ever be able to recover from his experience here in Houston.

There are plenty of good QB's in the NFL whose career has been destroyed by bad OC and NFL coaches not willing to change their play calling to suit the needs of the players on their team. I think David Carr at this point is a lost cause and Dom Capers is as much at fault as Carr himself- Remember Carr was sacked 249 times during his 5 seasons with Texans, thanks to Texans one-of-worst offensive line. In his rookie year, he was sacked 76 times, NFL record for most sacks in a season. In 2006 season, he was sacked 41 times.- Now whose fault is it that David Carr does not stand in the pocket and throw the ball accurately.

I totally agree with you. Capers sucked and came in with the wrong mentally(stay close and try to win in the end). I never understand this for the life of me.... WHY DRAFT A QB #1 IF YOU ARE GONNA PLAY CONSERVATIVE!!!D. Carr was a gunsliger and Capers brought him in and tried to change that and in essence changed the Qb that you drafted. Killed his confidence and made him start questioning his ability. No Good

I kinda wonder if Huard isn't a late bloomer in the Brad Johnson, Rich Gannon mode. While he's 34, he's a young 34 since he hasn't taken that many hits over his career. It seemed like they were playing well with him in there. I'd say you keep him and figure out if you wanna make a project out of Croyle or take another guy as a project in the draft.

Vinny and Pennington were always solid Qbs under Herm.

I replied to the comment that said Capers had the wrong mentality for Carr and was a "Stay Close and try to win it at the end" HC....

That is exactly what Herm is.

Vinny was actually a horrible fit for the WCO style Herm tried to implement with Hackett. Vinny is/was a gunslinger, not a dink and dunk "Smarter QB. When Herm got to the Jets they had a 3-4 hybrid defense and Vinny running more of an attack offense.... Herm Installed a WCO and tried to teach old dog Vinny a new trick (while admiting it takes years to install a WCO) and hired a 3-4 DC in Ted Cotrell to run a Tampa Cover 2 D all with older 3-4 personel. It was probably more of a communication problem between Herm and Bradway but, some blame has to go to Herm....

And Pennington only got a shot due to injury.... Just like Lamont Jordan never got the right load that should have spelled Martin a bit even when it was obvious Jordan was the better matchup of the day.

BTW.. This isn't "Herm Bashing"... It's discussing his past and his experiences for those who get tweaked.
