I would vote neither, as both guys don't really hit a chord with me musically. I have never bought an album by either one and have not felt compelled to see a concert by either one of them.

But I always marvel at how popular Springsteen has been. I remember his Born In The USA tour when he played 10 arena shows and 8 stadium shows on the same tour at the Brendan Byrne / Giants Stadium complex in New Jersey in 1984-85. That was a total attendance of around 900,000 people.

Then in 2003, Bruce played 10 shows at Giants Stadium, 3 at Shea Stadium, and a gig at Madison Square Garden . . . again to a total audience of around 900,000 people in the same market. That was 18 years later. Maybe that's exaggerated playing to his home fan base, but that's A LOT of people to come out to see someone.

I'm a Jersey guy so obvious bias. But Badlands is better than anything Seger has ever done IMO (especially live). It's wild to think that people could hear this and think Springsteen is lacking in energy or oomph or whatever was mentioned earlier. But to each their own.

I think if I was making a list of the best 20 songs by them combined, I think 15 would be Bruce and 5 would be Bob. But to be fair, if I was making a top 10 list then it might only be 6-4 Bruce. Seger's best stuff is really good, but there's not really a second tier for me that holds up with Bruce's.

Boss has plenty of oomph, agreed.  But there are some songs that are just flat throughout and hard for me to get into.  I should have been more clear there.

Example

Boss has plenty of oomph, agreed.
The Boss can, without question, stand alone and deliver the goods. There's a reason why it's just his name on all the records.

But in my mind, it's Springsteen + The E Street Band that truly provides the oomph.

As a total aside, this also reminded me that the Silver Bullet Band was always printed right with Seger's name on their album covers. Different band, different dynamics, but there is a reason why he's known as The Boss.

I am sure that caused it's fair share of acrimony between band members -- though to everyone's credit Springsteen, Little Steven, the late great Big Man, Mighty Max, Lofgren, Tallent, Bittan, Federici, and the rest never seemed to have a problem getting back together.

But I don't recall Seger and the Silver Bullet Band ever seeming to have drama.

It's a steady gig for the band, nice payday, good accommodations on the road.

After 40 years, I suspect the relationships are mainly business with a bit of long marriage thrown in.  Except it's reversed for Patti.

"Wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then"

For some reason this is one of my favorite lyrics lines of all time. Like top 5 easy
